@Barney12 out of interest what is the reference method you have used for twin and earth in the service void of a MBC wall
-
-
yes, but with the amount of insulation the void is sort of filled up
-
Its a typical Mbc build so all 50mm service voids for walls and 25mm for ceilings It would be easiest to use a sheet of OSB on roof and then batten to create the service void. How is the void treated for wiring regulations

Hi i a trying to think how to keep the cables tidy going to and from my consumer unit. The electrician wants to clip them (Visible )to the plasterboard slopping roof in the plant room. Not a big issue but i would like to hide them. options are to create a 25mm cavity between a sheet of osb (over MBC roof) and plasterboard and run in cavity or Use maxi trunking and run cables in bunches ie 3 x 6mm and 2 x 2.5mm in a 100mmx50mm 2m length of trunking Any issues with either before i suggest them to Electrician

Alarm Cable First Fix - Yes or No
dogman replied to Barney12's topic in Networks, AV, Security & Automation
When i was looking at what was available my main decision was some sort of notification direct to my mobile i initially looked at a Pyronix system but hidden in their small print was an annual charge to use notifications. With the Texecom premier elite kit i bought i got a comms unit that connects to your phone line. You enter your mobile number and it sends you a text when activated( plus other events) You can add a voice module as well -

@daiking The Texecom will mix if you get the premier elite. You can fit a wireless communicator and use both -
I used TKstairs for my design they have come in a lot cheaper than others including glass and in all oak.

@Barney12Did you go for the SBS unit in the end?

Just bought my system As ragg987 its a Texecom Premier elite. If you want to be able to receive alerts there is no cost unlike some that charge a fee. if you want an App for your phone i think its a couple of quid rather than 30-40 quid Got mine from CCTVcentral, Latest model, fully upgradable if you want to go wireless -
@JSHarris That's a good idea. I will need two CUs so easy to do.

I think i better wait for my electrician to get back to me on this one as there is the added complication of a generator changeover switch in the mix that i had forgotten about. On our cottage it we have the changeover switch in the meter box instead of the normal 100amp switch. We are on the end of the line for the supply so loose power several times a year and have a large generator to keep everything going I don't want the change over in the meter box.
-
Thanks @Prodave So one of these https://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/WYREC2S.html The current meter is in an external box right next to the new box in the wall The tails will be about a meter long as the CU's are on the inside wall add. we are on TT now but should be changed to TN-C-S as main incomer is already TN-C-S but the old house was never swapped over so earth link was never made

I am looking to get a disconnect switch fitted between the meter and the henley block as i will be having two metal enclosures and it means i can get the meter moved first Whilst looking at options i saw a picture of an installation where the switch was an RCD with rcbos in each enclosure. As i am looking at either an all RCBO installation is the use of an RCBO as the disconnect a good idea. My electrician is not the best at answering questions so its probably quicker on here. I remember a debate on here about the neutral not being disconnected by RCBOs so is the RCD an answer to that problem?

The development history I mentioned is all on line on the council website. The deciding factor I think was The use of a specialist agricultural planning consultant.

There is an example near to me where planning has been obtained on an old stable block. The property started as an agricultural field planning - change use for grazing then planning to build a stable block that was substantial then planning for two large barns then sold new owners started a small holding-Chickens and sheep Tried to get planning for new house- refused Tried to get planning for caravan- refused Then managed and i don't know how they got permission to convert stable block to a bungalow as stables were unused and not needed for chickens and sheep Interestingly the whole stable block was an easy conversion as all the window and door openings were in the right place. roof was tiled already and there was water and drainage already installed. Now this took about 7 years but it is possible

@le-cerveau based on your posts i went back to Sunamp as I was going for two PV's. They sent me information on the new dual port but it will not be available till Q1 next year which is no good for me. Is your option the new Dual port or stack built to work like a the new dual port

Run your build through EPC software it should give you a new figure -
@MikeGrahamT21 I have no experience with thermal imaging but it has me thinking I could try the same with my build before we plasterboard. I am not too worried about the frame but it would be an interesting exercise Any one else ran a camera around their frame before first fix Did you hire the camera?

This is not an easy post to write.....
dogman replied to ToughButterCup's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
Ian sorry to hear about your latest set back. All i can offer is encouragement to do as much as you can yourself. Your journey so far has shown you can do it, and with the help and advice from members most jobs are within the skill set of a competent person. Don't set unrealistic time-scales just work through each job, shopping around for cheap deals on items. Our first self build had the cheapest bathrooms and kitchens that we could find and we shopped around for second hand goods. You can cut thousands off a build cost this way- 62 replies

So the next stage starts. The render company started today. Spent the morning waiting for deliveries and started fitting the base rail and vent strip this afternoon. We have gone with Pro rend system to get the full warranty, installed by an approved contractor. Should take a week but i don't envy them as the render boards are 12.5mm 8'x4' sheets http://www.sas-europe.com/prowall-rainscreen-cladding-systems/
