Farrow and Ball paint: is it that much better?
lizzie replied to ToughButterCup's topic in Decorating
Ah thats a pain you need a thin paint for spraying presumably so you have to add water if its a thicker paint. Have you tried the Brewers own brand trade - Albany I think it is called. Have used it as a misting base layer on the new plaster as it was really good value on offer. Must have a got a very good deal from our Dulux centre on my mixed colour top coat it was cheaper by far than anyone else. TBH I think Valspar is not a great paint having tried it in one of my rentals I would need the bargepole for it. -

Natural Calico was my go to colour for all my rentals. Its a great colour, one of the expensive dulux heritage colours with some fancy white name is in fact the exact same colour mix as natural calico.....as told to me by brewers decorators merchants. Never tried any spray paint always used the old fashioned way with rollers and brushes. Have you registered at local Dulux decorator centre. Great trade prices and Nectar points and when they run their special promotions you often find 20% off vouchers available....and they deliver the paint to you free of charge. With the trade discounts, nectar points and the money off vouchers way cheaper than B&Q valspar and much better paint too. Plus proper vat receipt for reclaim. -

I have German Robbens MVHR and they are offered as part of that. I also have airflow regulators that sit in the pipes. Have a look at their online shop at www.underfloorheating.co.uk and go to ventilation and then filters. Lots of different ones to suit their various systems. If yours was same diameter as one if theirs guess it might fit

That stud wall reminded me of something I saw in a furniture shop recently...not for sale was part of the shopfittings but cheap and easy to do and I thought very stylish as a display wall/bookcase.

Wow! Very funky. What did you use?

Just out of interest have a look at what it says about the upstands here....structural for safety etc I know this product is not exactly what you are looking for but see what they say about upstands ....structural integrity with insulation is one of the things we discussed when we were considering the walk on roof lights. https://www.roofingsuperstore.co.uk/product/reflex-walk-on-rooflight-no-anti-slip-1500mm-x-1000mm-privacy.html If your architect cannot be more specific why not ask a friendly flat roofing company that install walk on roof lights for their thoughts on the issues. My bro in law has a specialist commercial roofing company and he was very helpful to us in answering these sort of questions

I want a back lit wall panel as my bedhead. Circa 2400 x 2400 have been looking at all sorts of options from the 3d wall panel company and lightstone transluscent slate. I see Porclenosa has brought out a new product x-lite which is very thin porcelain which when back lit with led looks very good if a little expensive......I’m very tempted though. Anyone else done backlit wall? All suggestions welcome.

Local but I did get some quotes on line too. that was via www.thegaragedoorcentre.co.uk they are based in Northants but they sent the enquiry out to local suppliers near me and I had two out to quote. On supply only I just got online prices no visit to quote. I just checked and my door is 3790 wide x 2125high It was £2495 ex vat (zero rated so I dont have to reclaim) supply and fit with two remotes and in Ral colour and comes with a guarantee from local installer as well as Hormann.

Barney so sorry to read of your problems. Cant offer any help other than keep fingers crossed for you. Not been to site today weather is foul here so I stayed at home. No doubt I will have a river inside from the leaking internorm sliders.

Ive just ordered a sectional Hormann, our size is not standard single or double from memory its about 3600.Lead time 6 weeks I am told and there is a price increase due in February. I got a couple of quotes for suppy and fit and they were within £50 of each other and the supply only price from others was so little different to the supply and fit (and pay them net of vat and not have to wait for reclaim) by the time I added on what it would cost me in my builders time it was a no brainer to go for supply and fit and guarantee. I would get quotes for both dont just think its cheaper to use you builder because he is on site.

Farrow and Ball paint: is it that much better?
lizzie replied to ToughButterCup's topic in Decorating
In my previous house the entire place was decorated in F&B. Its not only the chalkiness its the depth of pigment and how the colours change in the light you are paying for. The copies cannot match it in any way, at one point I tried the copies in Johnstone and Dulux no-one who knows would mistake it for true F&B. Decorators universally hate it because it needs more care and coats to get an even finish. In my new house I am going for Dulux Trade Ulramatt tinted to my preferred shade....not a F&B copy colour. Having had F&B in all its glory I said never again. It is a nightmare to keep looking perfect and I am a perfectionist so every little mark drove me nuts and cost me fortunes in redecoration. We are a 2 adult household no kids so didnt have any real wear and tear but still every little mark shows. If you want F&B in a wipeable finish go for the modern emulsion not the flat estate emulsion. It was not for me its the hint of shine in the modern I dislike I want the flattest flat matt. One F&B product I would and will use in preference to main stream paints is their eggshell for wood. Its brilliant. Nice alternative to F&B if you want to pay the premium for designer paint that is a bit more robust is Little Green. I love Craig and Rose paint but its even more difficult than F&B to keep perfect. Join the million discussion boards on Mumsnet about F&B and the pros and cons and the best copy colours. Hours of fun! -

Very nice but we dropped them out in the end. Company was great, very helpful. they do good drawings with quotes too. duplus.co.uk -
Timber frame passive standard build

Derek I admire you doing your own project managing I would be lost particularly on groundworks etc. We have had Peter with us all the way along. We met Peter way before MBC was decided on I dont think he had any formal connection with them then, we did deal with Keith initally too - very nice chap. Good luck with it all, keep us in the loop with pics. My kitchen going in at the mo....v v happy with that! Best Liz -
Did anyone have an answer to the cutting off question please.

Reviving this thread .....after much experimentation we have now shown without doubt water is coming in through the thresholds and not the frame. Supplier still wont take responsibility and is now saying it is our problem with dpc......can’t be right, all sliders have exactly the same problem, they are in different rooms. I’m so fed up of this installer not taking responsibility and not even coming out coming to check. We have 2 sliders where the doors are not propertly set so they dont slide smoothly and water is coming in at the junction between the fixed and sliding panels. Easy to see why ... the rubber seals are not aligned due to the doors being out. That is a separate problem to the one where water is coming in under the thresholds somehow. We have so much silicone on there now if there is a UKwide shortage it will be because we have bought it all, it has not cured the problem though. Has anyone any experience of going to Internorm HQ to get them to intervene and get the problems with their installers sorted? I might add that as well as the leaking sliders I have a back door that is almost impossible to lock with they key and that door came with clear glass not satinato as ordered. Been in going on 6 months now and still not sorted. I am thoroughly fed up of these people and wonder why I paid the premium for Internorm windows. Any suggestions guys (polite ones of course)?
