  1. Looks very nice. I have spent months trying to find the right thing for our walk in wardrobe, it needed to be modern not sharps type.....just about to press go on the order will let you all know how it goes.
  2. @Sjk need a really good brickie for those, very unforgiving I imagine, mortar colour v important too. Could look stunning on the right build. Do they come as brick slips? You could timber frame and then clad in white brick slips...might be cheaper no idea.
  3. got any pictures of the sort of thing you are looking at
  4. Hello and welcome. Good for you, we embarked on a build at not much different age to you (OH nearly 70 me a tad younger). Retirement house dream bungalow. A few years on many many heartaches and lots of overspending we have the home, not quite the dream as compromises inevitably had to be made to accomodate planners, practicality and purse but it is a now a home we are proud of and love living in it. If the years of hell and impact on health with all the stress was worth it is another matter. Pretty much behind us now but I would just caution you to be very aware of just how stressful this can be. I dont think anyone can really prepare you for it.......would you do it again is an often asked question........maybe but differently is my answer. The help and guidance I received from the lovely folks on this forum was invaluable to me, they give generously of their time and knowledge to help fellow self builders, you are fortunate to have found us so early in your journey. Look forward to hearing about your progress.
  5. If an offer has been made to buy it you cannot make a claim for adverse possession. Adverse possession means you have taken over the land without knowledge or agreement from the landowner and that has continued unchecked for x years therefore you have acquired a right to possession (if upheld). The person who may have had the claim has now asked the owner if they can buy it so acknowledges they have no rights to adverse possession.
  6. @PolicySuckssent you a pm
  7. Ditto we paid what he said he wanted for it didnt try to haggle because for us it was spot on for our needs.
  8. Ok will ask.
  9. @PolicySucks would you like me to ask OH if he can come up with a name or two for you for lawyers who deal with options....Surrey wide area though. £1000 sounds good value to me.
  10. where are you?
  11. @vivienz are the lift and slides Internorm? If so may have the tech data sheets for install.
  12. anyone else want the link not sure how many times it will work...its for 2 tickets weekdays only
  13. @Russell griffiths have pm'd you the link from my e-mail.
  14. I had some a few days ago -- will search my junk mail and let you know.
  15. If I add in the blinds on 2 worst windows,, which I may well do if we can overcome the technical difficulties then I will not be far off that price. I would have gone for blinds all round the S &W but its proved too difficult to get sorted with cabling now house is finished. Too late for vat reclaim as well. Bet we have a rotten summer next year after we have all spent fortunes on solar gain mitigation.
  16. @vivienz self levelling compound I think....slc. I had the opposite problem they made no allowance whatsoever for my lift and slides just sat them on top of the slab hence months of leaks. Yours should be easy to sort and you at least have the drainage in place underneath as it should be.
  17. I think it is entirely a matter for the cook....I like Neff, prefer to other makes, when they brought put the slide and hide it was a bonus. I have the small led display which I like also have the self cleaning oven - dealer gave me an upgrade at same price as regular oven because I bought all my appliances from him.
  18. I am on my second slide and hide (had one in last house) no problems whatsoever, a joy to use I would not swap back.
  19. I use both...pedestrian door handy if a power cut or motor malfunction
  20. I had that look in East Africa years ago....it was all that was available in terms of decoration with materials available and not at all ‘designer’ in those days ?
  21. Thanks. For the film I have to have it is £1200 odd plus vat (to late for vat reclaim now), thats only for 7 panes of glass in living room....biggish panes though. The other film which was the default option that I couldn't have was about £1800 plus vat from memory same number of windows. I dont need to keep heat in I need to stop sun overheating the place.
  22. Internal oak window boards on intermorm 3g’s. Oak hand selected by my carpenter. White oak we finished with danish oil. I’m pleased with them.
  23. we had our gap increased from the ‘penny’gap as mvhr regs require a bigger gap cant recalll what it is offhand but I know my lovely carpenter thought it was a bit too much, think he took a middle way and no one commented. They look fine, they went in after tiling was done.
  24. I used Gyproc habito everywhere except ceilings and bathrooms. Its 12.5mm plus the skim. It has 90 min fire resistance, hopefully that gives some good fire protection for internal stud walls which are absolutely stuffed with insulation.
  25. omg.....remember my hairdryer escapade, that still gives me nightmares!
