  1. In our build soils/wastes went under the slab. UFH pipes in the slab. A couple of ducts for kitchen island and floor sockets and everything coming in through ducts under the slab and up into the plant room. All (including water) were then run around the house in service voids in walls/ceiling starting from from the incoming points in the plant room. Our ducts for the kitchen and recesses for floor sockets were too small...had to be hacked about. Every single one of our soil pipes/wastes was in the wrong place. Plans wrong, no one noticed architect had drawn the things wrong not corresponding to bathroom layouts so my wall hung w.c.’s would have been a good 8 inches out from the wall, Slab had to be hacked out to realign it was very worrying due to UFH We are single story so every bathroom was wrong. The whole slab thing was utter hell.
  2. Nice job - wish I could do that so well!
  3. I used devolo in rented house......had no end of problems with with but know others who say its great. Have you checked the web site for software updates.
  4. Thank you @JSHarris......guess I should turn the water off in case it all falls apart while I am doing it. Wish I had taken night school in plumbing!
  5. No water on top it came from underneath as I was trying to turn the nut with fingers and holding pillar steady with other hand per Pro Dave method....................I thought I felt water on the flexi pipe when I first started looking at it but ignored it. So next question is how do I tighten those tails - not with monobloc spanner I guess. My water system alerts me to a micro leak regularly and I have driven myself nuts trying to find it, could this be it I wonder. Iceberg looming I fear!
  6. @ProDave tried the scotsmans method (OH would like that being mostly Scots himself) sadly my fingers are not strong enough I couldn't shift it at all...got a dribble of water run done my fingers though, hope thats not a bad sign.
  7. Guys thanks so much. Just found a utube on use of monobloc spanner. Think I can give that a go - a 2 person job but I have another (even less adept than me) body here so will make use of him. Off to screwies tomorrow!
  8. Thank you @cherryfountain will explore those. @AliG I dont have a wrench of any description sadly. @ProDave will give that a go thank you.
  9. Thank you thats exactly the tap!
  10. @PeterW OMG have just googled socket spanners and fainted at the price.....came across this advertised by Aldi - would it do please? https://www.aldi.co.uk/workzone-5-piece-ratchet-spanner-set/p/096217259708700?msclkid=6426e62229821093cab3ba526980f486&utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Special Buy | Non Brand | Products | BMM&utm_term=%2Bspanner %2Bset&utm_content=5 Piece Ratchet Spanner Set
  11. Is a long reach socket a spanner? I dont have any spanners maybe I should buy some! It's a Porcelanosa fitting made in Spain.
  12. The basin tap in my wetroom was always a bit 'loose' now it is doing quarter turn when used. The top bit - the pillar - is moving. I have taken a photo of underneath - its really difficult to get at. Is there something I can do to solve this or do I need a plumber? I have no tools beyond usual screwdrivers and pliers and not much use of hands so hoping any solution will be easier than leaking shower screen......got to have another go at that when I get the energy LOL Thanks for any advice you can give.
  13. Congratulations @zoothorn Looks great!
  14. Mine are 70mm. They are tiny little lights. I have downlights of some sort everywhere. We didnt have a big enough void so we had to cross batten to get our depth, reduced our ceiling height marginally but has made no difference.
  15. @dimpsy they come in at more £ than that from the quote I had over 2 years ago and their prices are only for the ‘house’ no groundworks or peripherals and you have to do everything to their exact spec of course...... mega bucks for the health & safety package too. When you get to Germany for the interior choosing the basic range is what is included anything more upmarket is extra. As I recall even on ‘house’ price is for white upvc windows anything over is an upgrade etc. Nothing wrong with all that and basic range is not bad but you need to watch things dont run away when you decide you want better doors or lightswitches etc. They were more flexible than most package suppliers and anything is possible at a price but for example they said they could not do my roof due to design it would have to be done separately here by another contractor so turnkey is not quite as it seems.
  16. if only! Im not ready to share yet its too scary.
  17. One day when you are sitting down I will tell you what it cost LOL
  18. I wish - at £2650 pm2 I would be a very happy bunny...I don't dare tell you what ours came out at in the end because it is truly shocking! My erstwhile PM as well as working for MBC part time is also a salesman for Hanse Haus - thats how we met him at the NEC. West Sussex - different patch, different sales agent. Enough said.
  19. @JSHarris next time you are this way call in and have a coffee and if you would like also take a look at the device installed and by all means a test of the water. Be very nice to meet you!
  20. @JSHarris I know that - he asked what difference halcyan made to me.
  21. Try £80 for 15 minutes to do shower silicone! I did get them back twice though at no extra charge but as we know its still leaking so am trying again myself. I am still on the learning curve with it but if I master it will be a big earner at those rates LOL
  22. @Mr Punter I'm not great at explaining how it is but this is what my water residue looks like on my large bathroom fixtures - this was from this mornings use so dried all day (its only seems to gather on large flat chrome areas) and the same fitting I have just given a quick wipe with a damp microfibre cloth. There is no hard calc and no scrubbing required.
  23. I fitted mine before we moved in so have never had the kettle furring up here but the kettle in the garage used during construction furred up. Hard calc will gather on the outside water stuff not on the inside ones which have the benefit of the water going through the system (its on the incoming pipe in the plant room) . I have very shiny chrome bathroom fittings and on on the large pieces I get some ‘soft’water marking its just like a puddle edge or a drop that has ‘set’ its not hard though and wipes off with a microfibre cloth and water no chemical cleaners needed. I dont get that on everything just on the large chrome fixtures every few days or so. The glass shower screen is a dream no white water marking (now if only I could find that leak!). Kettle, coffee machine, washing machine, dishwasher...none have needed descaling here and I used to have to do once a month before. Who knows how bad it would have been without this device but our neighbour on the same water main has to descale, he is very impressed with our water. I have had not one single piece of hard calc in this house which is impressive given the water we have coming down the main. I am not at all scientific all I can say is it works for me, showers and baths are nicer too, shampoo etc much better. I grew up with beautiful soft welsh water and can never hope to replicate that with the foul stuff we get here but this device has improved it no end without question and I am very pleased I fitted it even though every builder on the job laughed at me for it.LOL
  24. Jeremy I beg to differ. I have a Halcyan unit in use for almost a year. There is no doubt about the difference in the water that has gone through the Halcyan unit to that of my outside taps that come straight off the same main and I am very happy with the product. The effect is much the same as the Combimate one described by @Mr Punter in as much as it seems to stops calcium from sticking rather than removing it. As you don't have a Halcyan then I see no real basis for the comments made above. It is clear you do not believe in their process but to damn without ever having tried the unit is as flawed as you claim their theory to be. I would not wish to try and persuade anyone into anything at all everyone will make their own choices but at least in the discussion acknowledge evidence from people who actually have experience of the products under discussion.
  25. Welcome to try my coffee anytime....not descaled my machine in over 9 months LOL (and I drink espresso - strong and black and far too many in a day) I think it's a minefield with water systems. My halcyon was the source of much sniggering and derision on site and I'm sure they all thought I was barmy but I'm happy so hey ho. Good luck with whatever you decide on.
