  1. Need some advice on the porch and a damp issue I have. As the external block work is saturated with water and the joiners have joined the porch to it some damp is coming in horizontally and a small piece vertically. What would you recommend I do to resolve the issue?
  2. I was not planning on putting any re-bar in my floor as did not think it needed it and the underfloor heating pipes would give the screed the support the biggest area we have is 70 m2 I will be using GYPSOL Calcium Sulfate based flowing Floor Screed CA-C25-F5 or CEMFLOOR Cement based flowing Floor Screed CT-C25-F5
  3. The company that is going to do the screed for mw has given me 2 options GYPSOL Calcium Sulfate based flowing Floor Screed CA-C25-F5 or CEMFLOOR Cement based flowing Floor Screed CT-C25-F5 Not sure what one is better to use
  4. Looks like you have no upstands on that for the screed
  5. Hi I am going to lay my floor insulation 190mm in total made up off 150mm PIR and 40mm PIR Is it better to put the thinner PIR down first? Do you butt it up against each other or does it need expansion gaps or should be tight fitted? thanks
  6. Hi Looking for low profile IP65 fire rated downlights. Service cavity is 45mm and plasterboard is 15mm above service cavity there is VCL and 150mm of PIR insulation. I was going to go with the JCC V50 and contacted their support about the insulation. The response back was that they said there would be no problem with heat but their documentation states it needs 75mm of space all around it. Do not want to install them and they start failing. Can anyone recommend a low profile downlighter had a look at the Nitro pro as well
  7. Yes it is on the level can stuff the holes with wool and put more over top
  8. A lot of the PIR loft insulation had to be removed at either side of the house to do some remedial repairs to the roof trusses. When it has went back in it has not went back very well and there is massive holes in bits. I can not really face repairing it as it took me ages to install it Will I be OK putting glass wool over where the holes are or will I need to put glass wool all over the loft? Also the electricians have been in and done 1st fix so is it ok putting 300 mm of glass wool over the top of the wires?
  9. Hi I am looking for tension cords for my vaulted celling. Can anyone give me some manufactures as can not find any except for Ancon thanks
  10. Would putting a bit of glue in the hole help? This is the easiest mistake to fix he has made on my house build pure cowboy. Cut all the rafter doublers in the roof and lots more issues.
  11. Hi old joiner (if you can call him that). Has use normal nail in joist hanger and they are starting to com loose and floor making a noise. Any issue in taking them out and replacing them with twisted 30 x 3.75. Will I get the same strength as a whole is already there?
  12. I was going to run my service cavity batons horizontally at 400 mm centres and 45mm baton. Would this be an issue as my studs are not at 400mm or 600mm centres. I would need to put in noggins to make the correct centres in areas. Would this be an issue? It would also let the electrician run cables easier around the sockets thanks
  13. Hi it is 41 degrees
  14. Just read NHBC guide and as the roof has no to little uplift as there is no soffits outside. From NHBC Site Where trussed rafter roofs are not subject to uplift, a minimum of two 4.5mm x 100mm galvanized round wire nails, skew nailed, one on each side of the trussed rafter, or truss clips (fixed in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions) are acceptable.
  15. The photo is just a small part of it is massive but at least some of the roof is in a portal frame so no need to do it there. I think but would need to look to see if they have nailed them to the header. Have mailed my Architect he does not seem concerned in using the band on every truss
  16. They have not used them we made the frame ourselves and there is a long story about it for another time. Was going to use the attached and using twisty nails to nail it to the wall and the truss where it goes up at an angle
  17. Hi Just noticed that there are no rafter ties holding the roof to the wall header. I now can not install then due to insulation being fitted. Can I use Builders Band to do it at intervals where marked in yellow or something else or do i need to do anything thanks
  18. Was looking to start getting plumbing stuff ordered and have found that the merchants like Grahams and Wolseley are double the price. Have not asked them for competitive pricing but do not see the point as it is not going to reduce that much. Is there a saver quality difference? Where are other people getting their stuff from thanks
