  1. one silver lining is even if you do damage it the blocks can be lifted and re laid. it could be worse if they went for concrete or tarmac....
  2. I subscribe to his channel, don't panic i have got no interest in soap.....stone or otherwise
  3. Issue with a dumper is you either need another person or you have to keep getting out of the cab. ?
  4. in this scenario, because it makes things disappear
  5. doesn't work, never tried it but i can assure you it doesn't work
  6. theres only so many ways your wife is going to get pregnant builds really shouldn't take any where near a year, if you have an MBC frame up and on some founds in less than 2 months the rest of it can be carried out quite quickly as long as you are clear about what you want to start with and stick to it.
  7. its happened now, all you can do is apologise and i think flowers are a very kind gesture. what are you doing with the rest of the wood?
  8. you have the luxury of the build only including one possible winter I started the day i was granted PD to do the work, October 11 2014
  9. did you say he could burn the waste? try and find out what colour whine they drink this might not be the last time...
  10. but all the diesel is outside and its raining
  11. the cleaning with a shovel is always the last resort. i didn't mean so much actually using the teeth, more what angle the back of the bucket is? say the teeth (or front edge) is pointing straight down and you are scraping back, the bucket still fills and you only curl the bucket towards the end of the pull to remove it. or you start the dig with the bucket already curled (teeth pointing back at you) and pull back in? I don't know what the answer is but i was always thought to dig with the teeth, so front edge pointing down, then again my bucket gets stuck as well so what do i know i would suggest dunking the bucket in a drum of used engine oil before you start but that would probably be frowned upon
  12. get a magnet, i carry a relatively big neodymium (?) magnet for finding studs at work
  13. im intrigued now, it does happen a lot to me when digging clay and it if won't come out by thumping it into the ground it gets dug out with a spade like Dave. Good question though? i wonder if it has anything to do with the angle of the bucket? e.g weather you are digging with the teeth or with the bottom of the bucket? Im all ears
  14. I bought the twin charger a few months back and it is great. Luckily I had left it at home when the van got broken into so it's one of the few original bits I've got left. I still don't understand why they removed the DAB from the new ones. Something about DAB not being a big thing in Germany got mentioned but I just can't believe that if I'm honest. I'm still battling on with my old white one and will carry on doing so until they bring the DAB back. Edit: I've been beating my one with a noisy fan for ages now and it still won't die. Or shut up ?
  15. i would have got that one, a lot of cobblers tools have handles like that and for some unknown reason we have got a bunch of them in one of our derelict sheds,
  16. I bought these the best part of a year ago and they are still going strong. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3-X-Makita-18V-4-0Ah-Li-Ion-LXT-Battery-BL1840-4AH-196399-0-NEW-/161819460061?hash=item25ad3101dd I don't know if they fixed the "fault" in the 4ah, but the 3's were dying on me a lot weather they were genuine or not.
  17. could have been aqua board, used in place of hardy backer for showers and alike
  18. well I de-railed that thread in a grand total of 1 reply.... But Steamy you're annoyingly right, I didn't choose this career because I wanted to teach people and I instinctively begrudge it, but if I want to create anything useful I suppose I will have to put the time in. soooooo, bad excuses??
  19. I try, But I just don't think I'm a good person to teach while working to a deadline, he's still settling in and in time hopefully he will get better, AFAIC I'm still trying to learn how to do this building malark, and am not really in a position to teach, but unfortunately the boss and the college seem to think differently
  20. I've just been lumped with a new apprentice. Straight out of school and you would be amazed how many things are "impossible" or "just wouldn't fit" , blunt knife, the drill slipped, the level's out, All he really needs to say is "I fu*ked it up. and I don't know what I'm doing wrong", instead he reams off some BS that he doesn't realise I tried on my teacher years ago and he didn't accept it either. literally 2 hours ago I got told that it's because the Bhaco knife has got too big a shoulder on it for him to cut plasterboard straight :D....... GGGGRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrr why do they keep giving me apprentices?
  21. Couldn't comment on actual brands of paste. As I'm still using the unbranded stuff that came with my wet wheel. The Japanese stones mentioned earlier in the thread came yesterday so I'll give them a go and let you know how I get on.
  22. I almost felt bad bringing it up. We've all been there... problem is Building apprenticeship 101: finding the faults in others' work so you feel better about your own
  23. So......... what's with the brick at 5o/c?
  24. why can't you just put a whole load of waterproofer into your render mix? e.g tanking slurry just speculating but would that not work?
