  1. does the top have a plasticky coating on it?, usually grey with a slight texture to it if so I think this is what oz is talking about and should be ok at its core, our managers keep making us put it down before the roof is on because it saves on temporarily boarding the joists for the bricks to build the second lift, we moan like hell about it because as you can see it does swell at the joints and any open cuts around stair wells, the swelling will probably be taken out by the underlay if you are having carpet but that still doesnt make it right, sanding it flat is probably the way to go. from the way it has soaked in in the first picture i would say they are not those boards and are just moisture resistant, it might still be ok but if I'm honest i wouldn't like to put my name to it
  2. Im afraid i can't help but mine did the same the first day i got it, eventually it clunked back into place
  3. I agree with Declan, If you are going to parge coat it you may as well scratch and skim that, I have used both and D+D is definitely better for taking out undulations, Foam is probably easier for a DIY job but the wall does need to be flat in the first place, I found it to be very messy but that may just be the way we were using it. Edit: forgot about the insulation,....... how many walls are you doing?, might be worth getting a can or 2 of foam and letting the contractor have a go with it, see how he feels about it after trying it on a short wall.
  4. COLD BEER Im sure i read somewhere about attaching a sprig of ash or some other tree but I'm sure the beer will be better received
  5. Or I could do the bolts up. But I'd only have to undo them to take it apart
  6. We prefer to use the word undulating. I'll admit it's not quite the Peak District but neither is it the fens. Come down here on a bike and you'll soon find where the hills are.
  7. If I could get hold of some milk crates I would love to. Problem is those drums don't stack very well. And stacking them on blocks only works if the scaffold doesn't move
  8. Can't please everyone. You've had months of calm music. Time for a bit of grime I think
  9. Thats one of my mothers investments. Probably never going to pay for itself but it is nice to have 3 phase solar available
  10. Plumbers run by date stamped 24 hr digital clocks if that is the case
  11. we could throw in some warning points for dragging the thread off topic? What ya think Nick?
  12. I think there is some confusion here between what the "major house builders" are trying to provide, and what the monkeys on site can be bothered to build, The developers are un deniably building what sells, they would be mad not to, and they have probably got bigger teams researching this constantly than there are people in this thread, The problem comes when you get recently qualified college leavers on price work, I severely doubt any of the management teams have ever said, "Just slap the insulation in, it'll fit where it touches" or anything along those lines, and if every house on the major developments was built as per spec they probably wouldn't be too bad, It also shouldn't be a case of getting every house checked. People should just take more pride in their work, whether this is instilled in the college environment, or every college leaver should spend a couple of years with the guy i did my apprenticeship with I don't know, there should be no excuse for just covering it up quick so the house can go to market, it's either right or it should get done again, rant over...... I just don't like the majority of site monkeys
  13. hmmm, interesting, a lot of OLD foam i have seen has often been very brittle, I assumed this was frost but could well have been UV deterioration. Did i hear somewhere that the recipe has changed in time? something about not being used around certain types of pipe?
  14. FWIW I think you've all done very well for staying civil this long
  15. Probably would break down after a few frosts i fear,
  16. Thats the approach i take
  17. Secretly I am but don't tell anyone because I'm trying to act real casual about how it came out
  18. and keeping the muck the same colour! but the pre cut bricks were a hell of a help, even just sorting the lay able ones before loading out made a massive difference, I should also mention that Faye has spent 2 days cutting bricks and loading out by herself while i was at work! She's a good girl that Faye

  21. somehow i got given an A3 laminator with a whole load of pouches. and when it came EVERYTHING got laminated but on the plans, yes laminate an office copy and possibly a couple to leave about on site, but i would prefer a plain one to work from day to day just to fold it down to pocket size
  22. check a decent company like spax or reisser, they will probably have some good advertising schemes for both types
