  1. Decided to get everything back to brick and glad I did. I'm now thinking of throwing a bonding coat on, so I have a nice even surface to work off. How should I build out the wall, just studs and then a waterproof board or can I dot and dab the board on? Not sure how much I need to bring it out, but will be less than 50mm in total including tiles I believe. Cheers Vijay
  2. most of that is just a lump of plaster. The brickwork is a bit rough in places though.
  3. Removed the bath out of my parents bathroom today and my gut feeling is to remove everything back to brick. It's going to be where the shower goes, so need to get it right. Is there are reason to leave what's there and patch it on the bottom? Obviously still need to remove the rest of the tiles and some of the old plaster may well come with them anyway.................... There's also pipework in the wall that I need to address....................... I'll probably need to build it back out (to clear the ledger plate that the joists sit on) but I'll need to look at the drain position to know by how much. So would I batten then use some sort of waterproof board? Cheers Vijay
  4. Shelves for trays is exactly what I tend to do with a small gap
  5. This wasn't for site mate, it's for when I do random odd jobs here and there Good idea with the 8x4 bench on wheels - which I'll do if/when I finally get there lol
  6. link isn't to the item
  7. I've got my old B&D workmate hanging in the garage, haven't used it since getting my first Superjaws. Ideally looking for something with a larger worksurface as a bench though. I know I could just clamp a top on it but ideally one item to carry was what I was looking for..................... I'll pull out the workmate though and see how I get on - cheers guys
  8. Having a twingy back this week, thought it would be handy to look at a portable workbench. I already have a Triton superjaws that I love and is my go to. I'm looking for a portable table kind of bench that I can work on that is nice and stable and I can throw into the car easy. Found a Keter bench and wondered if anyone has used one or has any other options https://www.toolstation.com/keter-folding-work-bench/p10910?store=HA&utm_source=googleshopping&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=googleshoppingfeed&gclid=Cj0KCQjw6-SDBhCMARIsAGbI7UhnCKbujyo0S_5vBikxSe1QfztnXvuhxfIKXkLJOikkr0KmUcAwuDEaAq4sEALw_wcB Vijay
  9. from reading on a few websites, you get a better finish with a random orbital sander though, from sanding in a swirl pattern. As I said, I've never used one so I don't know..............
  10. I did look on both of their sites and Lidl have a DIY event but no sander
  11. If it was a daily use tool, I don't mind spending more, but for a now and again tool, I'm not a tool snob lol
  12. Never used one, but looking to buy one for now and again use. Don't really want to spend loads as I doubt I'll get the use out of it, so looked at Screwfix own brand for some guidance, something like this https://www.screwfix.com/p/erbauer-ero400-125mm-electric-random-orbital-sander-220-240v/581fx or the larger one https://www.screwfix.com/p/erbauer-ero450-150mm-electric-random-orbit-sander-220-240v/285fx Both good reviews, but was surprised that motor bushes can't be changed. Is that common these days or only on the cheaper stuff? Any recommendations for one? Cheers Vijay
  13. lol had the same exact thing, was so frustrating after the 3rd or 4th or 5th time! lol
  14. Where the credit card protection has been mentioned, maybe you could split the invoices into values of 30k or less. I'm not sure if the value is over 30k, they would cover any of it??
  15. Hi Janet, Would it not be best to use a weedkiller and try and kill things from the roots?
  16. lol what did you find so bad about it? Reading reviews, it seemed there's the learning curve with it, so seeing as I can't plaster great with a trowel, there's a learning curve for me anyway Exactly what I read
  17. Has anyone tried am OX Speedskim? I've only done a small amount of rough plastering in the past, but have ordered one to try
  18. I'm sure I remember being told it's a grip thing, so it helps the hammer head not to slip/bounce off the nail and hit a tile
  19. I never thought that I could just fix anything to the actual cupboard units, that was just meant to cover everything The wall unit is 307 deep so I was planning to do exactly what you've said, fix a timber frame to the wall for the toilet frame to fix to, to bring it out to the front of the cupboard unit. The only cupboard unit my Mum likes does have the setbacked toeboard, but I'm sure I will be able to bring that part out where the toilet area is (and leave the other units toeboards set back). I'm sure there's a solution there.......................... I have hit a small issue that you've given me a possible nice solution to. The toilet cupboard unit may not be available anymore, so it might be a nice feature to as you did and frame then tile it.
  20. I have an issue with noise from my neighbour too (they play piano every evening). The noise environment people came round and said that even sound proofing walls doesn't stop all noise, as I would need to insulate under floorboards, as the sound would travel there too
  21. Yeah I watched the Roca video and it seem a better design too in terms of adjustments. I've emailed them to ask what flush plates work with it
  22. Found this https://www.victorianplumbing.co.uk/compact-dual-flush-concealed-wc-cistern-with-wall-hung-frame Is it better trying to find a known make for them like Grohe or are they pretty much the same? Found this one too https://www.victorianplumbing.co.uk/roca-duplo-wc-frame-for-under-window-installation-820mm
  23. do you mean a wall hung unit? having the remote/top mounted button is what I'd be looking for
  24. Still trying to move forward with my parents shower room. My mum loves the idea of a wall hung toilet but she also wants a row of floor units. The WC floor unit is 875mm to the top of the unit/underside of the worktop. So I wondered if there is any reason I couldn't just fit a 820mm high toilet frame within the cupboard unit? I saw on another post (Picking a toilet remotely) that the flush control system could be an issue as the toilet seat would rest against it. So does anyone know if a 820mm frame would come with a remote toilet flush control? Cheers Vijay
