Shower control valves and toilet help
Vijay replied to Vijay's topic in Bathrooms, Ensuites & Wetrooms
I did wonder about digital controls but I remember a post you made about more things to go wrong Something maybe I need to look into more though.............. While looking at the Hudson Reed valves a bit more, noticed this one https://www.victorianplumbing.co.uk/hudson-reed-art-triple-concealed-thermo-shower-valve-art3211 which could tick the boxes. I think she could grip those controls and it says "accurate flow control". I've emailed Hudson Reed to ask them exactly what that means Also noticed this along the lines of what you've mentioned https://www.victorianplumbing.co.uk/duravit-b-1-single-lever-shower-mixer-with-diverter-for-concealed-installation-b14210012010 -
Shower control valves and toilet help
Vijay replied to Vijay's topic in Bathrooms, Ensuites & Wetrooms
Called Bristan this morning and they said all their valves are water flow full on or fully off, no adjustment I just can't believe/understand why they don't work like normal taps where you can control the output flow?? -

That would allow use of the 2 showers at once would it, it would be either handheld or overhead but not both at the same time? -
Shower control valves and toilet help

Prodave commented earlier that the centre valve can need a bit of grip to turn especially with wet hands. I would agree that it could be set and forget if there was one of them, but my elderly parents bicker over anything, so I can imagine them having different shower temps and that causing another argument lol Yep and it will probably get worse. Last thing I want to do is install a shower that my Mum struggles to use. -
Shower control valves and toilet help

It makes sense the more you open the more pressure you get, but some don't seem to work that (so I'm told) - that's what's doing my head in, adverts and website don't mention it I showed my Mum valves like that but she does like the modern valves -
Shower control valves and toilet help

@Nickfromwales thanks mate. You say the majority of other thermostatic mixer will be able to adjust the flow rate, but I'm really struggling to find a concealed mixer valve, which 2 outlets can be controlled separately, pressure/flow can be adjusted and can easily be used but someone with arthritis. Websites of suppliers and manufacturers don't state if there's pressure control. Even Bristan don't show that information ? Can't see a concealed one from onoff. Do you mean this one linked by onoff? https://www.victorianplumbing.co.uk/hudson-reed-reign-triple-concealed-thermostatic-shower-valve-round-plate-rei3411? -
Shower control valves and toilet help

Need some more help with this shower valve guys (never thought it could be this confusing). I'm being told different things (that's when suppliers/manufacturers even get back to me), but am I right in saying you don't get any control over the flow/pressure from 2 way/outlet shower valves? I've looked at both 2 control/handles and 3 and the only difference is the 2 control just diverts the water to one or the other outlet, where the 3 control allows you to have one or both outlets on at the same time. Neither of them control flow/pressure. The water supply is from a combi boiler and the mains water pressure is approx 3 bar. I'm a little concerned that the water from the overhead and handheld shower outlets will be too much with no way of adjusting them. What's that like in real world usage? -
might be worth looking into one. I recently ordered a single DG window and you order it on their website, filling in all the options and it goes to their window manufacturer. It was less than half price of any local window places

do you have a buildbase account?
-
My only dealing with Abacus is not a good one, the shower former is warped and they honestly couldn't care less. Basically they said either fit it or we'll collect and refund you. No actual interest in supplying a straight former. I would never buy their products again just because their after sales help is non existent

Jackoboard people were very helpful, said the boards were totally waterproof but the joints and fixings should be tanked over. Seems if you have to do that, makes sense to just tank the whole board and you know it'e belt and braces. By the way, using bonding (with a bit of cement) worked well as packers for the timber stud
-
Yeah they are the foam core, I went into Wickes this morning and looked at the. So are all foam core ones supposed to be waterproof?
-
I just fix the timber stud loosely with screws and plugs, put bonding behind, tighten the screws till the stud is in place, then next day tighten the screws
-
although the STS ones are sold as waterproof https://www.wickes.co.uk/STS-Professional-Tile-Backer-Board-1200-x-600-x-10mm/p/101131 I've just emailed Jackoboard about theirs
-
one manufacturer (STS), a guy in Toptiles and also a guy in another tile shop
-
yeah I think you've described the 2 types of backer board that I've looked at but I am being told by some to tank the "waterproof" one which is why I'm confused
-
Looking to buy these "waterproof" boards and getting contradicting advice. Some say I need to tank them and others say just seal between the boards and over any fixings. I have no issue in tanking the whole thing but what is the purpose of these "waterproof" boards if you still have to tank them? Is it just if the tanking fails you still have another barrier? Had a thought today while buying the timber to batten out the uneven walls. Is there any reason I couldn't use some bonding coat between the timber and wall and then once dry, fix it with a screw and wall plug? So the bonding drys to act as the packer?

somethign like this which I'd imagine Toolstation or Screwfix would do to? https://skyplastics.co.uk/110-122mm-x-80-95mm-flexible-adaptor.html?gclid=CjwKCAjwz_WGBhA1EiwAUAxIcY5OPpQ1hcbGKiiqFKlBFzuZz32FVvvHwXM0VNnVskqDOllOUt5ISRoC1EwQAvD_BwE

Don't Flir do the same thing for quite a bit cheaper?
-
You have no idea of the headache he would cause with moaning lol He'd end up just removing it. Anyway, I wan't it to turn on lights in the bathroom and landing
-
Thing is my arse of a Dad had an awful habit of turning every plug off, so I know it won't be used if it's on a plug. Also I want it to turn the bathroom night light on too
-
Hi, Looking at adding a night light at my parents for their landing and also bathroom (which at their age is the main reason they might wake up at night). I'm looking for a low level panel light that I can add to a stud wall and also maybe an LED strip to add under the bathroom furniture, which is about 1800mm of cabinets. Any idea what sort of watts I should be looking for that is not too bright but does the job? Also, looking for a sensor to turn them both on when someone walks out of the bedrooms onto the small landing (1m x 3m approx). My sparky mate reckons a ceiling sensor which can be fitted centrally so it covers all 3 bedroom doors as well as the stairs. Would I be looking at a PIR or is there something else to consider? Cheers Vijay

Great. I think a new battery is on the list. I looked on Ebay and they also sell NiMH, so will check if my charger does those
-
Ditto, £150 IIRC second hand unit. Seems a good way to go Have you ever noticed one gas gives more shots than others? Gonna service the gun then get some stock What sort of shelf life do you get with the gas?
-
with or without their gas? Funny you should say that, I was just looking at the Fischer nails and gas, read some reviews that said the nails were fine, but they had issues with the gas. I am clueless about nail guns (and many other things lol), what would bad gas make the gun do, misfire?
