Battery VAT claimable? Battery choice
Nickfromwales replied to MortarThePoint's topic in Energy Storage
Being told that by "more then one source" in the solar industry, in a nutshell. You say Can you post evidence to the contrary? I am quite happy to stand down if someone says here is written proof that the PT batteries are properly (balanced) charged. The Leoch batteries state that in the first line of their description. -
Detached Garage Outbuilding - Part L Building Regs
Nickfromwales replied to mac_1's topic in Building Regulations
Indeed. I just got word blind after researching / reading regarding mine, so after that info-overload the brain just starts to slip here and there! Agreed, BRegs approval needed over the 30m2, and PD rights remain (subject to T&C's). It's hard enough trying to remember all this and also try and find a guy with a micro that can do muckaway atm, with 2 of my mates having sold up after lockdown to drive HGV. -
Nope, and don't call him Shirley

Fleas come with the dog, pal You'll not get me feeling sorry for you You will be enjoying the fruits of your labour soon enough, and will have a very nice home to boot! Chin up, and stop worrying about types of plaster. Let the plasterer do that.

Would you like me to make up some answers? I've a spare 30 mins until tea Go put the telly on ffs.

Still doesn't affect the classification of use though? Just pushes it into needing PP? -
Look pal, it's Sunday, stop asking questions that the plasterer can answer when he gets there and says "Thank feck you got MF".

Multi-finish every time afaic. I've only ever had one spread ask me to take the MF back and get BF, as he was older than Jesus, set in his ways, and refused to use MF on new PB's

Battery VAT claimable? Battery choice
Nickfromwales replied to MortarThePoint's topic in Energy Storage
The point is valid if that manufacturer is charging multiples of cells without proper (or any) means of balancing. I've happily moaned about Makita battery packs dying early from this exact same issue, even though I own probably over £3k worth of Makita cordless and mains power tools. I also get to talk with other solar installers, some who only install the "chinesium" stuff, and I get feedback from them behind the scenes too. -

Battery VAT claimable? Battery choice
Nickfromwales replied to MortarThePoint's topic in Energy Storage
The batteries need to be purchased with the solar to be eligible for zero VAT iirc. I don't think you can claim that back if you purchased these in 2 separate transactions, but there may be a caveat if they came from 2 different suppliers and they're installed and commissioned together at the one address. I'd avoid the Pylontech batteries as I don't believe they are 'balanced charged'. -
So what happens if someone registers a (say) 5kW hybrid inverter with 4kWp of solar, and then adds batteries on the DC side, and then force discharges into the grid? MCS etc doesn't require any information of what's on the DC side of a hybrid, so the system could be 'legally' garnished with 15-20kWh of batteries and then they could be discharged as the inverter won't show more then the 5kW of capacity but it will be exporting that value for a lot longer. How could they ever police / enforce this?

Single Lap Tile Fixings & Solar
Nickfromwales replied to glock339's topic in Roofing, Tiling & Slating
We quote the exact same price, on roof or in-roof, the maths work out near identical whether it's brackets and rails or in-roof trays. I hear you loud and clear that you don't want a debate, but I'll not sit quiet whilst I hear something so odd being quoted, apologies in advance. Someone has been yanking your chain. FYI, I've been in an around the solar industry for a number of years, and we install solar via the same agent on every single property. You've already spent 'a fortune', so we're just advising on how to not do that again -

How can I turn on this tap?
Nickfromwales replied to CalvinHobbes's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
It's the age old 'not enough PTFE so I'll turn it until it stops' posse. Put about 23 turns of PTFE on tightly and turn it until you see about 1 revolution of thread left, then just keep turning to the desired position AND STOP! Simples -
Maybe a taper fitting?
-
Was this a second hand unit or new? Did you buy this off that eBay seller?
-
Sorry, only now seeing this. FWIW, I think it must be a duff thread. Try cutting it with the tap, but don’t do it in anger! Take your time, suck it up, and keep your chin up. 👍 Let us know how you get on.

Looks very nice 😊

I’m a bit lost as to how your internal block walls are on 100mm of insulation? That and busy as feck 😣

Are these kickers on a block and beam?
