The tale of the sale of our old house
newhome replied to Jeremy Harris's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
I think so too but you can’t blame them from chasing business. Anyone with Iresa as a supplier must surely have shopped around for the best deal and switched so I imagine a large number will switch away from Octopus in due course so they may not increase their customer base much in the longer term. -
I would put them where you intend to put the TVs or a printer at the very least. A point where you will mainly sit might also be useful (wish I had one).

I’m terrible, I just grab the nearest tool and see if I can improvise to make it do what I need, so screwdrivers are generally used for a variety of things from getting paint lids off to chiselling bits of wood when bashed with a hammer lol. I don’t feck about with power tools though. A drill is about my limit. -

I beat you, I learned that on the train last week ? That’s my modus operandi. If I get some numpty or someone I can’t understand I hang up and redial. That approach didn’t work with TSB however when they nuked my account as I had spent 40 minutes waiting to get to the front of the queue already, but in general it’s a policy that works for me quite well. I got a whopping £38 compo from TSB for being on the phone for 2.5 hours across 2 calls and being locked out of my account for 72 hours when I needed to make a payment. -

Reservoir Levels rapid Changes
newhome replied to Ferdinand's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
What an incredibly judgmental and sweeping statement. I can think of many many elderly people who have never led an unhealthy lifestyle. Back in the day when my parents (for example) bought their house life was tough. They didn’t have endless possessions or go on expensive holidays because they simply couldn’t afford it. In contrast these days everyone wants possessions, foreign holidays, vehicles etc without having to go without and save up for them. There are go fund me appeals for people to have their debts paid or to buy them something for no reason other than they see it as their right to live as they want. You can’t blame the elderly for the way society is today. And if you feel things are so wrong what are you doing to fix it?- 45 replies

That’s brave given the level of poor quality data pretty much everywhere, especially with no override that could send exceptions to a manual processing queue. Agreed. I opened an account with Atom bank recently and I had an account within an hour. In contrast I tried to open up a savings account with a company owned by my employer. Despite having several accounts within the group I was asked to go through the full AML identity checks, so I told them where to stick their savings account lol. -

I hope you're getting on with your bloody bathroom! -
I'm anti it mostly as mine doesn't work and I can't get anyone to service it. The minute they realise that they have to go on the roof no one is interested. So it's just a useless pile of junk currently.

What information do you need to put in? Can you put Octopus as your supplier but give your Iresa account number? -
I have solar thermal. I wouldn't have it again. If I could turn the clock back I would have PV instead as it's useful all year round.

Yay, well done you!!! Robbing bar stewards weren't they!!

Wow, you are going great guns! Did you get a cheaper leccy supply or just cough up what they wanted in the end?

The Build - First Fix
newhome commented on Redoctober's blog entry in Our Journey North of the Border
My sparky was my hubby. Messy sod! ?. I used to spend the weekends clearing up after the trades but it was never as neat as @Redoctober It’s when they come into a house where people are living and trash it that gets me mostly. -
I guess they think it might impact the purchase price of their houses maybe? Still a chance to get new decent neighbours.

Take a photo of the socket with the front plate off and go and have some tea.
