Perished. Fell to bits.

I also tried fitting the inlet valve. I had to change the 1/2” fitting to the 3/8” fitting. The good news is that it stops filling immediately when it reaches the right lever. The not so good news is that it leaks where it connects to the pipe. Both sides where the arrows are. Do I need washers or something? It also doesn’t sit right into the bracket as it’s a different shape so will have to cable tie it on or something.

That’s not fitted though. That bit goes right on the bottom Here it is with that bit fitted. When it’s facing the right direction it doesn’t go down to make the seal. It only goes down if I twist it 90 degrees and it clearly won’t work like that.

Progress of sorts. Flush valve is fitted and seems to be working ok. The second one I bought doesn’t seem right though. The top bit that lifts to cause the flush is supposed to sit right down on the main unit like so. There is a groove that it slides down as here That one is the one I’ve fitted and seems ok. The other one doesn’t sit flush with the main unit like so. And there is no groove for it to slide down. It only slides down if I twist it 90 degrees but the flush plate won’t ioerate it like that. Not sure if I should be twisting it somehow but can’t see how.

Scrap that, found the other bit and have removed it. Now fitting the whole bit in one piece. I think that’s right anyway!

Thanks! He just emailed back and said this: “The new one has the basket on the wrong end, we pack them like that to fit them in the box. Pull the basket off the top with the black rubber on and it should look exactly the same as your original. You will need to pull out you existing basket, put the new one on the new valve by twisting it in to place and fit the whole lot” How the hell was I supposed to know that? How do you know that? Cos it’s obvious? What does ‘pull out the basket’ mean? There’s another bit to remove? Where the hell is that?

Lol, yes a contingency is fairly standard but I thought I'd estimated enough elapsed time giving the whole of this week for the bits to turn up (inlet arrived Thurs, flush valves today) but wasn't reckoning on them being the wrong thing . I know they are going to say that it's the same thing but the top is different but I do think the website should show what they are going to send. I got the second one out and whilst it looks the same the mechanism does feel the same as the old one. The one I got out earlier doesn't pull up and drop down the same. I reckon it's fubar TBH.

The new bits arrived today so I thought I would have a go at fitting them however the flush valve looks different. The one on the left is the new one, and the one on the right the old one. The old one looked the same as the one on their website but that’s not what has turned up. Here is the one I ordered. http://www.toiletspares.co.uk/ag1378-flush-valve.html I’ve emailed them. Why is it that everything takes longer than planned ?

I was hoping not to get rid of the TS TBH but yes I could look at Sunamp I guess but that would push the cost up quite a lot.

The guy at work has paid that much for a 16kw bi-block with MCS install so I am basing it on that. He has paid but not had it installed yet. If I can't get it done for around that figure I won't bother as it's just me here and I don't heat at least half the house if there is no one else here as I never use all the rooms.

Help with kitchen renovation/ 1st house.

The rest is looking good though. You will get a real sense of achievement when it's all finished and properly insulated. Much more satisfying than wimping out and just doing a cosmetic job. -

Here is what you need to do So grab some no nails and just stick it on. -
I think I am looking at monobloc as I'm not sure I have room for an indoor unit although with the electric boiler gone that will be needed for RHI there's an outside chance there may be space I guess dependent on size. Is one type better than the other? I was basing it on a 16kw ASHP. I don't think I can do much about the insulation levels TBH. The walls aren't bad, the floor is fixed and has UFH so can't be altered, and the loft has 3 layers of Rockwool in most places. When I use the RHI calculator the payments are a lot less until I put the floor area in. As soon as I put 350 m2 in it shoots up and says I exceed the cap so it's 9.1k over 7 years. I have also been advised that it might be good to link it up with the ST (assuming it can be got working again).
-
Have taken a punt on the costs as I haven't managed to get a quote back yet but someone at work has a quote for one of a similar size to what I will need so I had thought that the MCS option would cost circa 9k and I would get that back in RHI payments over 7 years and I could get an interest free loan for the kit. If I go down the non MCS route I reckon it's about 3k plus for the unit and another 2k ish to install, so 5k and no return on that. Does that sound reasonable or have I done the maths wrong?

LG Therma V mono block Air Source Heat Pump
newhome replied to ProDave's topic in Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP)
Saw this on eBay @ProDave https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Air-Source-heat-pump-LG-ThermaV/302816426425?epid=25021697740&hash=item468143f9b9:g:iukAAOSwLg5bVh84#viTabs_0 -
Thanks. Would they be MCS? Need that as I want to apply for the RHI payments.

I have ST despite it not being the best choice now, but it was installed in 2010 when it seemed ok as an option to heat water. One of the big minuses to installing ST is that if if goes wrong as mine has there just isn't anyone who can service it. The company who installed it said 'we don't do that now', and I've contacted 5 other companies with no joy so far. One of them did come out to give me a quote but then ran for the hills when he realised it was a 2 storey roof even though I told him that on the phone. So I've got not just a poorer performing option (when it works) but one that has become a white elephant because I can't get anyone to maintain it. Wonder if that is an issue in other areas too? Having said that I can't get anyone to come and quote me to install an ASHP either ...

Moving on apace now and looking great. Will keep my fingers crossed for the electric supply.

Still being thick. So measurement starts at far left of the first batten (ie not in the middle) and ends in the middle of the 4th one? ? -
Found a cheap structural warranty
newhome replied to Adamantium's topic in New House & Structural Warranties
And another update. The surveyor told me that he had sent an updated report to Buildzone on 5th July. I have still heard nothing so have chased again. Buildzone may be considered to be one of the leaders in the market but I am seriously unimpressed with their service so far especially as @PeterStarck had issues with getting his warranty too. It's been 2 and a half months since I sent them the completion certificate. -

@Onoff does the 1200 measurement start right in the corner of the room and then end in the middle of the batten @ 1200? Couldn't work out from reading whether it was centre batten to centre batten or you started at the far edge of the first batten so there was no gap. Me being thick clearly -

Bored of the heat now TBH. This is Scotland. No one lives in Scotland to be complaining that it’s too hot! -
House Cooling ideas

My house was the same. I was out at work for 12 hours and returned at 7pm to find every room at 24 degrees. That hasn’t changed overnight and the temperature is still 24 degrees.
