There argument is that the transformer is a "conductor" as defined in the documents. Which I'm currently unable to find. Which sounds like weasel words hence I really want to see the document that spells this out. Ive requested that or a link to it

I already have a single phase supply. Albeit, it's only rated at 60 amp. I just want/need 3 phase in my workshop which is currently fed from the house. There's 3 phase on a pole in my field, 50 feet from the workshop!!! So near, yet so far. Main loads would be a big compressor, extract fan (big) ramp, bead rolling machine, woodworking thing. If I had 3 phase id be adding a lathe to that at least. Maybe three croc clips is the answer 😂
-
I can get a decent silenced genny for circa £3-4k. Got batteries. Need a 3 phase invertor. So would be up and running for say £6k, with a lower cost per unit. Thats ignoring any solar i will add. Would service the genny myself. 3 phase isnt price capped either, so could go up much more than a regular domestic supply (as it did llast time). Standing charge much higher too. The reality is, it wont get used much overall. The batteries can run the stuff like the ramp. Very short periods of use. The big load will be a new, bigger compressor. I might use that for a decent chunk of a day, then not use it for 3 weeks. So genny run time will be small. My current supply isnt reliable now, never mind in future if Ed gets his way. There is something to be said for my own security of supply, though thats not the driver here as i already have and have used, a small standby genny. Which is great if rather noisy! Just pondering my options as £20k is daft. Before i do anything i need to understand if National Grid are correct, or if i should be challenging it as others here have done? One person on here got it down from £26k to £450!!! So clearly they engage in piss taking in the hope you just stump up!
-
Back again. National Grid say no on the following basis: "As per National Grid current policy; for reinforcement concerning three-phase upgrades :-Where a customer requests a 3 phase connection and it is necessary to add a third conductor*the customer will be required to pay the full cost as it is not considered a shared asset.* includes apparatus/plant etc…" Im unable to locate any document with such words via google. Does anyone have a view please, on if this is worth challenging before i throw in the towel and buy a bigger generator?

Where is the kWh price heading in 2022?

Why would they need to? It will be chaos. No need to confirm via cctv. -
Late to the party on this. I got a quote for a conection , close to £20k from pole in my field. It was 3 months PRIOR to the change. They were charging me for a new double pole and transformer. Thanks for the posts and links. Ive gone back to challenge that.

Could be if the wall doesn't have a dpc. How old is the house?

I found this, well one similar to be 100% reliable. And no "running" costs. https://doorbellworld.com/products/traditional-butlers-bell-kit-with-black-iron-pull-and-nylon-cord?variant=13874942509174&country=GB¤cy=GBP&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&utm_source=Google&utm_medium=CPC&utm_campaign=Shopping+|+PMAX+|+Doorbell+World+|+Remarketing&utm_id=17870755657&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=17869557480&gbraid=0AAAAABPG94uKNMo3BHKxL8sMxL-C3bCMM&gclid=Cj0KCQjw5ubABhDIARIsAHMighav5I7prkrtm580BXzbWqguTFA4izCgr9LIKg4fmDXoSg1fs_gn5GAaAhm6EALw_wcB Could be argued the thermal bridge it creates isnt so good. Or was this not what you are looking for 🤣 -
I think you might be missing my point. Never mind.

Thats great. But assumes that more tax = better services. Problem is, the reality, in the UK, is the opposite. Those increased taxes are not delivering improved services.
-
Ive said it before, and ill say it again. No one is going to break that price link. Too many people (influential) getting rich fast as a consequence.
-
If its self funded, by, as you observe, the richer ones, it going to contribute bugger all in the scheme of things. Id not consider that to be "lots". Steany idea makes much more sense, and, id suggest, more likely.
-
Likewise. I have taken action to reduce my tax, by the simple expedient of working less. The incentives to work hard just keep on shrinking. Until recently, I used to run a business, employ people, pay corp tax (more than starbucks(!)). Not a chance id run a business now. You are just a cash cow to be bled dry at every turn. As i said its quite obvious public services and the standard of living are only going one way, while tax goes the other. Irrespective of who is in the chair at any monent. Whilst i cant remove myself from the "system" i sure can reduce my contribution to it. And to add to the sheer stupidity, if i get my income below £31k (likely) then i can have £45k of work done to my house free of charge, a grant, not a loan, to install heat pump, solar and insulation. Earn one penny more, nothing, i have to pay. Guess what im going to do?
-
Paying more tax isnt going to improve services. Id bet good money on that. Paying more tax just means a bigger transfer of wealth from us, to a select few. Net zero is a dream vehicle by which to do that. The success/output cannot be measured or quantified, so more money will be needed indefintely.
-
Indeed. Most are paying more tax than ever, for less than ever. That the tax take is at its highest for decades is fact. Not subjective. There are of course individuals in the system who due to their circumstances havent seen an increase. The reality is, no matter how high taxation goes, nothing is getting fixed. Net zero will merely adds to that taxation. A lot.

Cant do multiquote, but im not sure no overseas travel and no imported stuff isnt going to impinge significantly on peoles enjoyment of life? As i said, i dont wish that on my fellow man. I didnt mean the "concrete" statement was rubbish. I meant the comment that major change to lifestyles isnt required.
-
This is rubbish. To achieve net zero is going to require massive changes to the lifestyles of the average person. Those changes are not going to be popular at all. Especially the being poorer and lower standard of living bit. While the rest of the world laughs at us.
-
I thought is was obvious? Its just another transfer of money/wealth, from ordinary people to a select few, via the government. Net zero takes this transfer of wealth to a whole new level, way beyond anything we have seen before. The people benefitting dont give a monkeys about the planet, climate change or any of that stuff. Assuming it goes ahead as planned (which i doubt), i do hope that those on here cheerleading the madness, look around in 10, 15, 20 years time, at what it will have done to society and the country, and think, yes, im so pleased i supported that. I cant wish that future on my fellow man. I couldnt even wish it on my enemies! As Prodave said, life is for living. Not staying locked up at home to avoid creating emmisions.

I think its worth pointing out that "rural living" is now considered "unsustainable", at least in England and Wales, so i cant imagine our glorious leaders will concern them selves too much about the fate of rural dwellers. In numerical terms, we count for nothng when it comes to votes. Make your own arrangements i suspect is the answer in reality. Thats what im doing. I hoping to make it to the end of my driving life, or death, whichever comes sooner, without having to resort to some sort of EV that i cant maintain myself. Maybe some miracle will occur such that they become useful, but i rather doubt it. Anyway, Ed will bleed you dry of cash, so you wont be able to afford to eat, never mind buy a new car!

What dispensation? From whom? I dont need any. Theres no requirement for that. The rules, whilst a nonsense, are clear. If used on your own property for your own equipment within the definitions as per link below, then its legal to use red. I see no need for any dispensation here: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/using-rebated-fuels-in-vehicles-and-machines-excise-notice-75

Available at the local petrol station, and i also have a tank at home. No issues getting it filled.
-
You can if its your own digger on your own job. If its to earn money, then no, you must use white. Same with hired equipment.
-
100% agree.
-
Probably not. It will just be a rant from me.
