Seems rather complicated. Why not just install a few more, tried and tested, geothermal systems. Shall see what 2026 and 2028 brings, I suspect nothing. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geothermal_power "There is enough stupidity around not to have to look for conspiracy"

Octopus Smart Meter Display suddenly showing export rate
SteamyTea replied to NSS's topic in Photovoltaics (PV)
Or when no imports at night. I have loads of times I import nothing. Worked hard to get the house like that. -
Off to the dump, will be is the skip with an old laptop in an hour. Got a couple of large boxes of PC hardware. Most of that will be going to the dump soon. Don't think many people need 1990s components like graphics cards, sound cards, dial up modems and memory modules up to 1 Mb. Or a 40 Mb hard drive.

Where did you see that, I would want to write to them about it.

Depends if you have a backward looking council, and an MP in your county that is the Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (last bit is dogging in Tehidy Woods, why they wanted to charge for parking). Anyone notice his absence on Any Questions last week, was from his constituency.

Durisol - in administration
SteamyTea replied to PeterW's topic in Insulated Concrete Formwork (ICF)
Only by not using physics and maths. We could cover buildings in mirrors, that will help overheating and hardly change the night time losses. Not tried to seriously calculate it, but there must come a time where the energy losses/gains from ventilation outweigh the losses/gains and storage from the building's materials. -
Had a thought. Can you sense and measure the DC side for generation, then compare to the import AC side. I have one of these that I once thought may be useful, going to dump as it has been in loft for a decade. Can you hack into it, or use it for parts. Can deliver next Monday as i fancy passing my mates tombstone.

Improving output from existing MCS 4kW array

More lopping. Copper nails can help to attach things to trees. -

I have seen optimisers added to each module (still need to remove modules) and then wired as normal into a SMS SB (4000 TL). Don't remember any advantage, but it was an unshaded install anyway, just a customer being ripped off. -

I hope it don't. More usual to measure it in Wh/mile. My old oil burning Ford (take the boy out of Essex, but not Essex out the boy) uses about 1.5 kWh/mile. -

But you have some tree shading, and you cannot get rid of that. Your modules may have lost a few percent of their performance in the last decade as well. Have a look back at your old data to see what it was producing. Your current inverter may be a bit oversized, but probably not worth changing. Used to go through Thundersley, every day, on way to school in Westcliff on Sea. Life was in black and white in those days. -
3 Phase metering in a 60's built domestic property
SteamyTea replied to Old Sparks's topic in Introduce Yourself
Do the 'other two' meters go to separate consumer units (fuse boxes). You may be better off finding an electrical to trace a few circuits. State of the arts in the 1960 was 'energy too cheap to meter' and a self winding mechanical watch. And a Ford Cortina. -

Will almost certainly involve scaffolding, removing the modules, fitting the micro inverters or 'smart controllers, then rewiring back to a new in inverter. SMA has a good, dual string MPPT built in, though, as you say, does depend on how the modules were originally wired. Getting 3 MWh per years, depending on your location, sounds pretty good. Have you run the numbers though PVGIS to see what it predicts? If your car does 40 MPG and you drive 8000 miles a year, improving it to 45 MPG saves about 1 MWh of energy. -
Why not buy a cheap radial fan, tape it to roof of car. Wire it to a small travel kettle. Monitor volts and amps at different road speeds. Then you will see just how piss poor it will be.

I use the Envi model that has the optical sensor. Can you read the LED on the import meter and decide on its state what is happening? i.e if no flashing direct PV to battery storage, if permanently on, say for half second, divert PV to DHW.

Does anyone understand how ADSL broadband actually works?
SteamyTea replied to ProDave's topic in Boffin's Corner
So that is really where RB lost my pension, not on 'the turmoil of 9/11'. Bastard still, in my eyes, owes me £70k, plus 20 odd years of growth. -

Didn't NTL do exactly the same, but with wires. There was a company that ran new data cables in Aylesbury in the 1990's. Then went bust. I assume the dark wires/fibre is still there. -

How does your garden grow?

Wrap a pipe around it and pump some water though. Slugs, squirrels and dogs burn well. -
3 Phase metering in a 60's built domestic property
SteamyTea replied to Old Sparks's topic in Introduce Yourself
Not if 4 of them were on the same circuit. @Old Sparks spend an hour there taking 5 minute readings, then go back in the morning and see what has happened. -

Are two phases of the three used for E7? The billing details should show this, and the meter numbers.
