Where is the kWh price heading in 2022?
SteamyTea replied to epsilonGreedy's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
Been there, done it, got the T-Shirt. A price shock really brings the point home. The main problem is that many people will blame externalities i.e. VAT, Green Taxes, overseas war, but make no attempt to actually change anything that they have some control over. An old girlfriend of mine runs a 2 kW fan heater all day in her living room, which is a good 1/3rd of the area of her house. She has gas central heating, TRV on all the radiators, but has convinced herself that it costs more to turn the central heating on. Her BiL is a plumber and gas fitter, she has worked with him, on and off, for many years. In her mind, the problem is the housing association, not her choices. She is (expletive deleted)ing mental though. -

Totally and unnecessary, the current higher prices is enough. Sometimes the stick is much better than the carrot. -

" I think in about two years’ time we won’t need to heat the house at all,’ says Andrew." Who is going to call him and ask how it is working out. What village in Buckinghamshire was it? -

Most petrol stations have not been able to cover costs by selling fuel alone. Why they are generally small supermarkets, with much higher prices. When we had two petrol stations, we were paid a subsidy from the distillery (Shell in our case) to support running costs. To put it bluntly, it don't really matter if the subsidy is passed on or not, without it many petrol stations would close. -
Thanks.

Generally alright if prepped correctly. While expandion differential is possible, I have never noticed it in practice. GRP is 25x10-6m.m-1.K-1 Aluminium 21 to 24x10-6m.m-1.K-1 Steal 11 to 13x10-6m.m-1.K-1 All very small movements over a few metres and if bonded to each other, tend to take the median value.

Yes. 57.86p/day standing charge. £211.19/year. To help bail out all those skinflints that swapped supplier to get a good deal. A good deal that I am paying for.

What make is that, do you have a link. Trying to make my annual bill zero, used under 2 MWh so far this year.

Perspex is acrylc, so, in its natural formulation, will stay clear. There are two main types of acrylic sheet, cast or extruded. Avoid extruded. You can get flexiable acrylic sheet, which offers better shock resistance, but I have no idea what the long term exposure to UV is like, it has nano particles of rubber in it.

This is what I use on my immersion heater, and my storage heaters. Bought them in 2013, not had a problem. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0066NEBO6

Say no, end off. The predecessor of Buildhub was shut down because one member was using pictures of another members house in his marketing material, it all got very messy legally and morally. And a quick internet search shows that a picture of the house, that was not built by the company, is still up.

Is this the chemical reaction that stores energy, at room temperature, when it absorbs water, then releases it when it is dried, with a relatively small amount of energy input. People were pissing thier panties in anticipationa decade ago. Probably why we all have a small box of zeolite mineral in the useful draw to heat the house. https://www.extremetech.com/extreme/130523-zeolite-thermal-storage-retains-heat-indefinitely-absorbs-four-times-more-heat-than-water

https://plasticsheetsshop.co.uk/product/clear-acrylic-gs-sheet-30mm/ Then laminate some plate glass to it with UV curing adhesive. If you just want light to come though, you could get a clear GRP sheet made up. Get the right resin and mat and it will look alright.
