  1. Well I started my build March 16 with the best intentions of producing a blog for the site. Well, full time work and two children plus the build meant the blog feel by the wayside, so instead of a blog I thought I could at least post some finished pictures, and if anyone has any questions on what I ve done I can answer them. Anyhow here's the back of the house, with the sliding doors opening up to the open plan kitchen/dining/lounge...

  2. Stinging nettles are fantastic to eat. Pick the tops (with gloves ), boil and serve with butter and pepper. You won't get a stung mouth honest! Bees will take pollen from weeds to so it's all beneficial wherever it comes from.

  3. @craig I think you will be fine. 11 likes on 30 posts is a good start. We just need a tot of brandy. F

  4. Send it to County Battery - they will do it for you for about the same price you can get the cells for. https://www.countybattery.co.uk/

  5. Just a tip - find a beer can that doesn't have the plastic widget in it as it doesn't taste nice when it's been melted ....

  9. Started in March, Finished in June. No wonder you didn't have time to keep the blog updated. I won't let SWMBO know how quick you built your house...... Looks very smart indeed. Well done.

  10. See...if you'd have done a blog I'd have known that! Seriously though it looks great and huge. That patio set looks lost.

  11. Yes - the planning permission was for two houses so I actually built two, and sold the other

  12. I've bought some very good cells from these people, around three times now: http://www.componentshop.co.uk/batteries/radio-control/single-cells The set I bought around 7 years ago for two home made LED torches are still going strong, as are the slightly younger ones in my old NiCd Makita screwdriver.

  14. @craig Afaic, you've stood your ground, 'behaved' admirably, and offered transparency which is good enough for me. A bumpy start but ? happens . Stick around ?

  15. Thanks @Barney12 @Construction Channel The post was made with the best of intentions and as help for quote checking. I wholeheartedly expected for others to come in and ask question or say things may have been missed. I didn't expect for someone to come in and descend it into chaos for no apparent reason other than an ego trip. Thank you for the support, my profession is windows and Passive House including steps towards certification (I'm not a certifier). This is where I can offer advice in an independent way, obviously my interests are towards the business but not here. Im not a fountain of all knowledge but I certainly have above average knowledge when it comes to windows and installation details etc. @JSHarris I fully understand what you are saying, I have owned/run forums using IPS in fact for nearly 20 years (since the days of Ikonboard) and still run/own a large forum. Forum etiquette is something I'm fully aware of. I'm also aware of a newbie rubbing long term members backs up. Which is part of the reason for the introduction and declaring immediately. Some on this forum will know me, wasn't any point trying to hide that fact (not that I would have anyway). If anyone had an issue with how I have posted then that's for them to advise why and for me to learn and understand how. Before posting I read all the relevant topics about how the site became to be, I understand the ethos of the site and I've understood the feel good friendly nature of the site from browsing the topics in every section. I know some clever people are present here and from all aspects of life. So I'm not trying to tell people this is how it is and what you must do. Just friendly advice on what I would do as someone who checks quotes, trains staff on window systems, differences between systems, manufacturers, processes orders, deals with technical drawings, detailing, service related issues and so forth. I've been in the industry now for nearly 9 years and understand others with greater knowledge exist and willing to learn from them. However when someone tries to call me out or tries to make me look like a fool. That's a different matter. I have and will continue to contribute in other areas but I'm not going to just spam across the forum, if I have something to contribute I will.

  16. Exactly. As @ProDave says it's just a tingle. People pay good money at LoveyHoney.co.uk (other providers are available) for such stimulation

  17. Absolute nonsense. A tiler is bloody well 1000% responsible for levelling and laying a flat floor, REGARDLESS of the state of the slab. If the slab was that far out, which I doubt it was, then the tiler should have ascertained that BEFORE OPENING A BAG OF ADHESIVE !!! At that point they should have advised that the slab needs feathering with latex and should have done so prior to laying Ill bet my left nut that this guy has laid the tiles worse than the slab was in the first place. The skirting / up stands should have all the vertical grout lines lined up with the grout lines in the floor, unless it's a different tile. This was over my mates brand new liquid screeded floor in his Persimmon home, and in the kitchen I had to use about 9 bags of self leveller . Have a butchers at that lot. 600mm x 600mm rectified edge porcelain, a rough as toast screed, and you could play snooker on it after I left. There is no excuse.

  18. That's bloody awful! I'm a rank amateur when it comes to floor tiling, but if I'd laid a floor like that I'd be ashamed of myself. Even given the small dimensional differences between tiles due to the manufacturing tolerance, it isn't usually hard to gently change the joint lines to accommodate them before they build up to the level of misalignment you've got. If it were our floor then it would be all coming up and be done again properly.
