  2. So I've had a go with this and quite pleased. Had already bought the bendy ply so will see how it paints up. Will remove and bond with glue before fully screwing in. I've counter sunk before Screwing which works well. One more to go (on the left of the second pic - that stud will be coming out) !

  3. How about 600 rather than 300mm of EPS and I just say I'll float it away if it needs to be moved!

  6. This might be a really stupid question, But, as all your measurements have been designed to a 100mm frame, how will that work now that you are adding an extra 40mm everywhere?

  7. What about some big, visible lifting eyes so you could Chinook it if the need ever arose?

  8. Not interested in "ready made". Too impersonal. Logistics of getting it to the space would be a nightmare too.

  9. Mine is 28m2 and I'm already convinced it's too small. Is there such a thing as "too big" for a man cave?

  10. 15m2 is pretty big - larger than the average kitchen these days ..! What are you planning to do in it ...??! You could always have a building that had a terrace / veranda which could be easily made as free standing in front so not part of the building yet still "part" of it if that makes sense ...? Other option is make it moveable and then you don't have the restriction on the building size - didn't George Clark do that with one of his..?

  11. That would mean you've got an extra 75mm to make up on your b&b floor to ffl. 2 courses of these in 140mm will get you there http://forterra.co.uk/thermalite-and-aggregrate-blocks/thermalite-aircrete-block-detail/thermalite-aircrete-coursing-brick

  14. I used Amanda at Certaservices in Bournemouth on 07773 817258. She's a former building surveyor and understands the application of the role, whereas pure H&S specialists who were not in construction struggled to interpret the CDM regulations.... and even argued that there was no way an inexperienced self builder like me could fulfil the PC role (but that's another story). It's apparently common an architect won't want the role of PD.....so you get an independent....someone who understands both construction design and h&s legislation....they sit in on main design meetings and are kept up to date on design development so that they can wade in with questions like "thats nice but how will you fit a workman in that space and keep him safe while he's building it?" The PD will produce a folder of pre-construction information that passes onto the PC so that h&s considerations first spotted during design are fed forward. If there are differences in what gets built to what was designed, the PC must ensure the folder is updated. So the PD pretty much hands over and quits once construction starts. If your house is already 'designed' and passed by planning, that won't negate the necessity for a PD.

  15. We found our architect following a visit to Kore where I asked about someone local interested in using their insulated foundation system. He is now mainly a builder but to his misfortune was interested in our project. I came to him wanting a type of house that he wanted to build, him being an architect was a bonus. He stuck with us through our planning battles and knows what I'm like! Our site is cleared and stoned with the Kore delivery coming on Tuesday. Windows were ordered yesterday. Our architect was driving a dumper in the rain. That's dedication.
