Triassic
Having looked over the Building Regulation plans produced by my Architect, I'm confused as to what type of plasterboard I should be used where, as the blurb on the plans doesn't go into any detail? Is there any particular Building Regulation rule I should be following, or it as simple as use 12mm throughout?
nod
If you use 12.5 mil boards on the cielings All endges need to be supported Best to use 15 mill TP boards on the cielings As you can set your joists or trusses at 600 without any need for noggings Foil back boards to underside of trusses and any flat roofs With the exception of bathroom cielings No one does a foil back Moister So bc will accept either in 15 mil to bathrooms I ideally go with moister Moister 12.5 boards to bathroom walls and personal choice for wall Soundblock etc Or just 12.5 wallboards Abito boards are worth looking at Bit pricey Allow an exstra 60% for labour No good for fit and dab

CC45
every skimmer I know seems to have different preferences - the chap doing our house said stick 12.5mm normal PB (SE) everywhere & he uses board finish on the lot. Who knows whats right!
ProDave
I uses standard taper edge 12mm everywhere, except bathroom the green water resistant version and garage, the 15mm pink fireline 2 layers. Skimmed by my plasterer with 2 coats of multifinish. All edges secured, nothing left to chance.
nod
I can’t understand British Gypsun still selling Board finish Does the same job I buy board finish as it is 20 p a bag cheaper We normally buy few palettes per week Every penny counts
Triassic
So yesterday I rang round about five plasterboard suppliers. I need 580 (8x4) boards, so the first calls were to a large national distributor, i then called Jewsons, Buildbase, C W Berry and finally my local family owned BM. Guess what, the local BM was cheapest, their 12.5mm is £4.87 a sheet and the 15mm £6.10 a sheet. Maybe if I should see if I can get the smaller format boards for the same price as they’ll be easier to handle. Russell griffiths
Is it possible to buy sheets bigger than 2.4m, I do find the English sizes a bit pathetic to say the least, when are we going to catch up with the rest of the world.

I think if you catch Wickes with all their discounts lined up, and use a Reloadable Cash Card e.g. From your employer or Westfield Rewards, you may beat that by 5-10%, but you would need to wait for the day. I am not sure if they still do a standard bulk 5 for 4 type discount on plasterboard, however, Consists of £7.20 base price for 8x4 12.5mm 10% off for Trade Account. 5 for 4 if they still do this, and I have not bought plasterboard recently enough to have seen it 5% extra for Trade Customers via the newsletter e.g. There was one last week 10% off for the reloadable cash card. They may have deals for the monthly offer, Half Term or Easter. Ferdinand Edited February 8, 2019 by Ferdinand

Travis Perkins do 2.7m. I had them in green, moisture resistant for the bathroom. Why you may ask? Because some idiot when he put his new ceiling joists in ended up with 2470mm as a room height and didn't want silly little bits of pb at the top/bottom. "He" didn't appreciate the knock on of this meant silly bits of TILE...
Jeremy Harris
I seem to remember having to specify 2400 x 1200, rather than 8 x 4, as 8 x 4 = 2440 x 1220, and we needed 2400 x 1200 to match the 400mm spacing of the counter battens and studs and the 2400 room height. scottishjohn
If you doing a near passiv self build ,why skimp on plasterboard -use 15 mm though out --will just improve sound proofing and insulation value. you spend 10k on an insulated slab then penny pinch on plasterboard --no sense to me. ProDave
A lot of the choice is what it the standard stock in the BM. Here it's standard metric sheets with taper edge. Anything else costs more. Taper edge is indeed designed for tape and fill, but won't phase a plasterer. Mine just skimmed the tapered joints while setting out the corner beads then that was dry enough for the top coat. The main drawback of 15mm is the extra weight. Okay of you have a lifter but otherwise I would only use where there is a real need.
Onoff
Thinking about it I scored some blue 10'x5' sheets from site about 15 or 16mm thick some years back. I used them horizontally. Soundbloc I assume.
Russell griffiths
I have used 2.4m 3.6m 4.8m 6.0m i cant understand if you have a 4m wide room we have to have a bloody join in it. Even in the wet rooms the cement board comes in 3m,go from floor to ceiling no joins in a 2.7m high room. And ive used boards 1.35m wide so you can put two boards horizontal for a 2.7m ceiling.
