Ambaz79 Posted October 25, 2022 Posted October 25, 2022 Hello We are at the stage where the electricians are going to start wiring the house and I need to supply about 1000M of 2.5mm Twin and earth and then around 700M of 1.5mm Wire for Lighting. Cheapest I have found so far is TLC-Direct but just wanted to know if there is anywhere that I can get this cheaper but from a reputable seller? Thanks in advance!
PeterW Posted October 25, 2022 Posted October 25, 2022 Toolstation is cheaper (just) and CEF tend to be decent for those sorts of quantities. Screwfix sell Prysmian cable which is about £2/100m more expensive.

Too easy to pick up a nice new coil every time. Then there Is the other sort of 'wastage'. I only supplied cable once as it was obvious a lot was stolen: not nec by the electrician.

I have done commercial projects in the past where we leave it to them and just get a massive bill in the end. So just trying to manage this side a bit better. Its just the last time I looked at cable like this it was just £30-40 per 100m. Obviously the world has changed since then and prices have just skyrocketed so just trying to get the best deals we can. Ive been to the big wholesalers and they cant really come close to tool station or TLC.
Radian Posted October 25, 2022 Posted October 25, 2022 Over on the electricians forums they seem to take a dim view of Toolstation's cables - I've seen complaints about working with customer supplied stuff. Pitacs/Time (stocked by TS) source cables from Turkey. If it says "Kablo" anywhere, it's from there.
Ambaz79 Posted October 25, 2022 Author Posted October 25, 2022 Ive just checked the the TS version is Pitacs. 2.5mm is £76 Inc Vat and 1.5mm is £49.49 for 100M of each. I have spoken to my local electrical wholesaler and they are able to do 2.5mm at 80.40 inc VAt and 1.5mm at £54 Inc VAt so about £4 more per reel so I might just go for them as i would expect its better quality.

I have just been through this with my sparkie, and he was insistent on Prysmian cable so that is what i got him. This was his initial shopping list no. 2 100m x 2.5mm2 twin and earth no. 2 100m x 1.5mm2 twin and earth no. 1 100m x 1.5mm2 three core and earth no. 1 100m x cat 6 cable no. 1 50m x aerial coax cable plastic clips - shit loads I did shop around and infact screw fix came up pretty completive with 2.5mm at £81 inc VAT and 1.5mm at £54 inc VAT, so just got it from there as its close
Chanmenie Posted October 25, 2022 Posted October 25, 2022 Yeah I found screwfix very competitive compared to online wholesale prices, managed to get an additional 10% discount which made them much cheaper than anywhere else.

Thorfun Posted October 25, 2022 Posted October 25, 2022 my electrician said Prysmian was the best so I got that. best price I found was Screwfix. the Prysmian LSOH from SF ended up being very comparable to standard PVC from others!

saveasteading Posted October 25, 2022 Posted October 25, 2022 TS discount is stated as 5%. Even then, there always seem to be conditions when I have asked. Maybe they have local promotions. For me they are handy for availability but many prices are high/ opportunist. Ditto / more so at SF
