Construction Channel Posted August 7, 2019 Posted August 7, 2019 I have fairly low ceilings and need both of these things to stick down as little as possible. I heard somewhere that one of them "needs" to stick down a certain amount? But have any of you sought or found a specifically "low profile" set? Interlinking and mains powered preferred but I can work on that. Tia ED
ProDave Posted August 7, 2019 Posted August 7, 2019 I only personally use Aico. That doesn't address the low profile issue, it just ensures a good quality product. Aico do a combined heat and CO alarm that may reduce "ceiling clutter" in some rooms, but unfortunately they don't do a combined smoke and CO alarm. 1
PeterW Posted August 7, 2019 Posted August 7, 2019 Cavius make some really nice small ones at 40-50mm in size and are wireless and battery though so would need to ensure BCO was happy. 1

Jeremy Harris Posted August 7, 2019 Posted August 7, 2019 One thing to watch if thinking about making a recess (which seems a good idea) is that some alarms need room to side off sideways from the base and some (like the Kidde ones) need a screwdriver to be pushed into a slot in the base to release the unit. However, I think it should be possible to make a larger recess to allow access/release movement. Have you thought about wall mounting them? No reason why they shouldn't work pretty much as well when mounted high up on a wall as when mounted on the ceiling. 1

I just need to find a decent looking pair that are no more than that

Hence possibly accepting the battery route

Lesgrandepotato Posted August 7, 2019 Posted August 7, 2019 I have the nests. They have the added advantage of being nightlights and thus can be reasonably ceiling mounted ?

ProDave Posted August 7, 2019 Posted August 7, 2019 Well, I have found you one, but you won't like the price. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Apollo-Soteria-Dimension-Specialist-Optical-Detector-Flush-Mount-Smoke-Alarm/202601809440?epid=12029352481&hash=item2f2c024620:g:JAoAAOSwpOVca9Aa I searched for "flush smoke alarm"

It must be a typo.... Surely......
Ferdinand Posted August 7, 2019 Posted August 7, 2019 That does not seem to be a heat detector ... unless I missed something.

There isn't one, it's just prissy tarts wanting to push boundaries. Like awkward clients who are never happy and just complain because they can. Live with it. Literally. Buy Aico, follow the instructions, fit and live should the worst happen. 2
TonyT Posted January 18, 2022 Posted January 18, 2022 Yes, spend thousands on a Vesda system linked to a fire alarm.again depends on the ceiling finish and budget
PeterW Posted January 18, 2022 Posted January 18, 2022 Lumi have brought a new one out but it isn’t great… https://www.electricpoint.com/lumi-plugin-lp110wh3kmbwsa-8-5w-smoke-alarm-downlight-3000k.html
JohnMo Posted January 18, 2022 Posted January 18, 2022 You don't notice them after a week in the house and it's all furnished, too much other stuff for your eyes to see. Spend thousands, if you need to, but I went with Aico and didn't. 1
