  1. I would also carefully consider that garden wall as an acoustic barrier. There is a lot that can be achieved looking eg at systems used for barriers between estates and dual carriageways, plus you have a little elevation to play with.
  2. (Reads thread) (Thinks .... Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.) (Goes for walk)
  3. The double socket in the meter box is a very good idea. Glad it is going well.
  4. Glad you found us. We keep very quiet and make you work for it ?.
  5. Typically they would be easy to break and expensive to repair. You can't expect them to work with no maintenance for 5 years. And as for larder units ... ? (Writing from the LL side)
  6. You can also either put a stick-on rubber nipple or two on the point where it connects with door. eg https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/6040143746/ or a buffered door stop if it could mount on the plinth. These are spring buffered and magnetic so they hold it open until you jerk the door. I have them on all my commonly used doors. You can calibrate the strength by putting it closer to the hinge. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07CLWN3CS/ or a sleeve of some sort on the handle of the latch, as you say. Thoughts are the sponge tape you get for table tennis bats or tennis rackets, or perhaps even a piece of cable heat-shrink. Or can you just make a door stop? eg material sown around one of your leftover bricks.
  7. I think it will depend more on the precise product you buy. And the sophistication will change over time. My (I assume) midrange larder cupboards have been in since 2010, an they do not open with a pinky, despite running on runners and rollers. F
  8. Dear Lord. Giving pocket doors to a tenant ... risky ! That landlord owns a pocket-door manufacturing company. ?
  9. https://davidallengreen.com/2021/02/did-jackie-weaver-have-the-authority-the-law-and-policy-of-that-handforth-parish-council-meeting/ And Anna Soubry is fun at 2:22 on the Today Programme. Especially on the former bouncer with the red camo meeting David Cameron. At 2:22: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m000rww3
  10. Is there value in creating your own "house model", and running it through one of the online price check services? They are only low hundreds or so aiui.
  11. Land Registry HPI index is a good tool. eg https://landregistry.data.gov.uk/app/ukhpi/browse?from=2010-10-01&location=http%3A%2F%2Flandregistry.data.gov.uk%2Fid%2Fregion%2Funited-kingdom&to=2020-12-01&lang=en if you take 10 years, the increases are not that much different to inflation, or for that matter to average wages. HP inflation is much lower, perhaps even 2/3 lower, for 2010s over 2000s. But general squeeze has gone with it, ie 'austerity'. It might be useful to get a secondhand version of SPONS and the current one to compare. Or say 2010 and 2018 to be cheapskate. Also newbuild premium has perhaps shrunk, and some things are cheaper. Suspect posh 3g windows are disproportionally up, whilst very good 2g are relatively cheaper.
  12. Saw a photo of a shower on another thread of a shower cubicle that had so many bits and pieces on all the walls that there was no blank section left. Ergo impossible to have sex in. Strikes me that I have never seen anyone have this in their shower spec. Wanted to check that you had not done the same thing. Would not be able to cope with an even more frustrated @pocster than you are already. But you (and subsequently the rest of us) are OK. Good job. F
  13. That's quite appropriate.
  14. Nothing. (Apart from all the things mentioned before.)
  15. Thanks. That answers it.
  16. Is 100mm enough roof insulation? F
  17. Time for a bigger window. @pocster Wake up again. Do you have an overall photo of your shower interior? I have a question.
  18. I was askingOnoff. Quiet. Grownups are talking.
  19. Is this the one you sealed in a window?
  20. Can I suggest that you print off my series of articles linked above, and go through with a highlighter to emphasise stuff that may be relevant, and skim the linked threads. I know that is being a bit egocentric, but we did do a reasonably thorough job and looked at most aspects, including sources. The advantage of a fixed frame is that it is fixed - and if he is using some variety of walking frame that can unbalance. Reduces ways of falling by one. You can also get stuff on free loan from the Red Cross or sometime social services (social services do an assessment, and tell you whether they can supply it or if the RC do). That can include a more stable sort of frame that fits over your loo: Or stuff can be floor mounted: Be aware that having an unusually shaped loo seat can make it more difficult to get things that fit. The advantage of a 2 way shower is that they get an extra hand free on the rainfall one. No need to be obsessive, just go far enough so that you are satisfied.
  21. One of these. Seig: * Hiel: "Folding Support Rail" is too boring. F * Sorry for spelling - need to slug that particular search ?.
  22. You could do that. It needs 90-100mm of screw in something really solid, plus plaster, plus tile etc. (not 60-70mm) But do you then have room to park a wheelchair next to it should someone wish to transfer sideways ?? It needs a list of what aids you will want, and an extra layer on the thinking to find what best meets your goals overall.
