  1. https://davidallengreen.com/2021/02/did-jackie-weaver-have-the-authority-the-law-and-policy-of-that-handforth-parish-council-meeting/ And Anna Soubry is fun at 2:22 on the Today Programme. Especially on the former bouncer with the red camo meeting David Cameron. At 2:22: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m000rww3
  2. Is there value in creating your own "house model", and running it through one of the online price check services? They are only low hundreds or so aiui.
  3. Land Registry HPI index is a good tool. eg https://landregistry.data.gov.uk/app/ukhpi/browse?from=2010-10-01&location=http%3A%2F%2Flandregistry.data.gov.uk%2Fid%2Fregion%2Funited-kingdom&to=2020-12-01&lang=en if you take 10 years, the increases are not that much different to inflation, or for that matter to average wages. HP inflation is much lower, perhaps even 2/3 lower, for 2010s over 2000s. But general squeeze has gone with it, ie 'austerity'. It might be useful to get a secondhand version of SPONS and the current one to compare. Or say 2010 and 2018 to be cheapskate. Also newbuild premium has perhaps shrunk, and some things are cheaper. Suspect posh 3g windows are disproportionally up, whilst very good 2g are relatively cheaper.
  4. Saw a photo of a shower on another thread of a shower cubicle that had so many bits and pieces on all the walls that there was no blank section left. Ergo impossible to have sex in. Strikes me that I have never seen anyone have this in their shower spec. Wanted to check that you had not done the same thing. Would not be able to cope with an even more frustrated @pocster than you are already. But you (and subsequently the rest of us) are OK. Good job. F
  5. That's quite appropriate.
  6. Nothing. (Apart from all the things mentioned before.)
  7. Thanks. That answers it.
  8. Is 100mm enough roof insulation? F
  9. Time for a bigger window. @pocster Wake up again. Do you have an overall photo of your shower interior? I have a question.
  10. I was askingOnoff. Quiet. Grownups are talking.
  11. Is this the one you sealed in a window?
  12. Can I suggest that you print off my series of articles linked above, and go through with a highlighter to emphasise stuff that may be relevant, and skim the linked threads. I know that is being a bit egocentric, but we did do a reasonably thorough job and looked at most aspects, including sources. The advantage of a fixed frame is that it is fixed - and if he is using some variety of walking frame that can unbalance. Reduces ways of falling by one. You can also get stuff on free loan from the Red Cross or sometime social services (social services do an assessment, and tell you whether they can supply it or if the RC do). That can include a more stable sort of frame that fits over your loo: Or stuff can be floor mounted: Be aware that having an unusually shaped loo seat can make it more difficult to get things that fit. The advantage of a 2 way shower is that they get an extra hand free on the rainfall one. No need to be obsessive, just go far enough so that you are satisfied.
  13. One of these. Seig: * Hiel: "Folding Support Rail" is too boring. F * Sorry for spelling - need to slug that particular search ?.
  14. You could do that. It needs 90-100mm of screw in something really solid, plus plaster, plus tile etc. (not 60-70mm) But do you then have room to park a wheelchair next to it should someone wish to transfer sideways ?? It needs a list of what aids you will want, and an extra layer on the thinking to find what best meets your goals overall.
  15. Where are your mobility aids going to be when required? Need to plan the whole schmozzle now. eg There is no easy way to put a Hitler Trombone next to that loo, other than across the front.
  16. I treat those also as an alternative to EWI, which has more problems identified than 10 years ago. (The answer to the edges of panels showing up is obviously to paint the house tartan). I have always asked people quoting for EWI if any EWI job they did went down to the foundation, and only ever found one case. And EWI man rolled his eyes about an overly well-off green enthusiast.
  17. That would be the easiest solution. "Architect was wrong; it *is* mine". BOOM.
  18. Get some quotes before you start dreaming. And some advice on which ones are practical. For bigger ones it will take 2 growing seasons. Have you considered commissioning an oil or acrylic painting of it? When mum and me left their 40 year house after dad died, we made a predetermination to be grateful and pleased, but to walk away with no regrets. It is a good perspective.
  19. How long has it been there? You can hold out lack of likelihood of enforcement, and possibility of adverse possession as counter if necessary. But would need to mention in connection with an attractive carrot.
  20. Buy more than the 4m. Buy enough to make a decent small garden on that side. At least wide enough (another 4m?) such that you can work on your house easily, and can guarantee privacy.
  21. In England Council would not enforce on that even if it was new and an honest mistake. Scotland? (Question to other posters)
  22. Reflect too on what sort of sums you want to pay. I would think about low to a few thousands plus you do costs.
  23. It is proportional to the U-value, everything else being equal. That will be 3/4 thicker for the same insulation value. To out perform PIR you will be into aerogel afaik. Calculator: https://www.vesma.com/tutorial/uvalue01/uvalue01.htm
  24. It wasn't because Ebuild went commercial. It was a legal threat, combined (I surmise) burnout through too much success, and a general "sod this for a game of soldiers; I'm offski". F
