The first one may also have involved an engineer who would provide a practical solution involving a supper of cold baked beans. -
I am on my third mini project with these (disabled ramp, which is techncially not quite their intended use) now use only ASP Wallbarn as they are very good with discussing issues, sending samples etc. Worth a conversation. F

I think there is a strong argument that the ‘close to services’ Idea does relate to carbon footprint etc in terms of eg making the Dr and the school walkable not driveable etc, and so reduces the green impact of the whole comunity. -

When I first heard that in 1988 it had a mathematician not an engineer, who would calculate the trajectory of each baked bean and splatter of tomato sauce. There was another one about the oldest profession involving a bishop, an actress, and an architect. The punchline was about ‘but who created the primordial chaos?’, which may also have involved a Planner in the version at a self-build conference. -

Thanks. I’ll whack in an order to cover about a month, then take a breather and see what the Doc can do. Hmm. Complan is in the BNF https://bnf.nice.org.uk/borderline-substance/complan-shake.html and NHS indicative price is 2.80 per 4 sachets, which suggests that my 2.70 is doing OK for a start. There also seems to be a distinction between things like Complan and Buildup, which seem to be called ‘borderlien’, and other ones which are for further-gone cases. Will talk to the advice pharmacist at the GP. But eg this guidance in Kirklees says it is not prescribable. https://www.northkirkleesccg.nhs.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/Final_Guidance_for_the_use_of_Oral_Nutritional_Supplements.pdf F -

True .. also have that to add to eg last night a Chicken Tikka. The ones I am asking about are the flavoured sachets. They do chocolate, vanilla, banana, strawberry, chicken, and the chocolate is approved with tinned pears. I think I missed one flavour, but the others are disapproved. Can’t blame her on some of them .. we have never had the ‘dinner as powder plus water’ culture in the family. The strawberry one is Germoline mixed with Ribena colour, and the Velvety Vanilla sounds like a sub-brand of Durex. I may get around to looking at alternatives, but for now we just need something reliable as deterioration has been rapid and I need to stabilise then reverse weight loss as a matter of urgency ... which is the difference between all day wheel chair and some ability to walk with a stick or grab rails, transfer to loo by herself etc. Most of the effort is going into reconfiguring the house as a move has been made downstairs, and chucking a lot of stuff out, as we need wheelchair manoeuvring space in most rooms all of a sudden. And there is oodles of kit ... today we had a thing called a Rotunda (helps transfers chair to loo etc), which is a rotatory thing like the platform from Blofeld’s mini-lift, a Perching Stool (slIghtly sloped height adjustable bar stool with arms and back), and a Mobile Commode arrive, and all have to be kept somewhere. All have to be stored somewhere, and until Support systems get set up and refined I am on 24 hour duty. Second bathroom is also being redone in the current fortnight. @newhome You can get similar on prescription on the specific recommendation of a Dietician, I believe. I think it was tightened up after old people’s homes played the system too much. We can self refer to the Dietician, but that will take time. Ferdinand -

Something like 80% of prescriptions are issued free, and a 12 month ‘season ticket’ caps it at about £100 per year for unlimited items. So not at all bad, really. I think the basic principle of maintaining a small charge for things as a way of maintaining a perception of value / slanting the field against abuse is important. Personally I would support a small charge for a consultation, perhaps redeemable from somewhere. But yes, for over 65s they are free. -

Slightly off-piste request. It seems my mum will now have Complan (essentially high calorie Shakes with vitamins) daily as part of her weight maintenance diet. They cost typically £3.50 for 4 drinks from a supermarket, and we are looking at 2 per day. So that is about £600-650 a year for the foreseeable future. I am looking for a better priced source, but the things seems to be controlled as tightly as a drum, with prices going much higher but only lower by about 5% as routine. The best offer I currently have is a 15% voucher code for Chemist Direct on top of that ie about £2.75. https://www.chemistdirect.co.uk/complan-chocolate-multipack/ Can anyone do better? (Add - plus potentially 6% cash back via Quidco .. IF it stacks.) Cheers Ferdinand -

Damn. Another loophole gone. You can’t get automatic Right to build a house because a squatter has been living there in a shack. Expensive lesson, though ... a cool 1 million. Great business strategy. Own a plot with a long term squatter, and sell it to someone who thinks they will have auto-pp for £700k. https://www.hamhigh.co.uk/news/environment/hampstead-heath-vale-of-health-cottage-must-be-pulled-down-rules-planning-inspector-1-6277269

I wonder if a big, long one over the bath might work well, and a 600mm round one over the whb. -

Check at Ikea, where I am currently looking. They always have good value mirrors; I have one of theirs in my hall. 650 x 650 at £17 https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/nissedal-mirror-black-50320320/ Have you considered a bigger one extending over the bath, or two separates - they currently have one that is just under 80cm x 2m for about £90. https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/cat/large-mirrors-24859/ Anyhoo, here is one from Ideal Standard that looks good. May have better price elsewhere. https://victoriaplum.com/product/ideal-standard-framed-mirror-800-x-700mm -

What type of style and finish, @Onoff? That is actually about the size for a above bowl medicine / makeup cupboard. -

Church pews are not that expensive, unless you want posh ones. The larger ones are less expensive usually, and are usually cut down. I had 4 from about 1985, and 25 years later they were still roughly the same value. Play your cards right and the cushions will come with the pews. F -

We were still on O levels and A And S levels, and the school was snooty about General Studies so everyone only took 3 not 4 A levels. Did OK at O Levels, but got one E at A Level as I choked on rote-learnt Chemistry. -

Speculating, you kept one from the same month every third year to give an evidenced and interpolatable trend line, and binned the rest. On first attempt, I read that as 3 O levels and a goose. ? -

Final thought ... could you repurpose a secondhand kitchen off eBay for this ... say real wood or slab doors? -

To me the first one in the piccie is a bit Dynasty or Heart to Heart, even aspirational of being Bertie Wooster’s mother in her Edwardian Vicarage (, old thing). Very good place to listen to back episodes of TMS, involving Boycott or Tavare scoring one run per 10 overs, whilst snoozing through the long, dark teatime of the soul. ? But I think it would be a cross between a stud wall for the fixings top and bottom and a kitchen island for the thing itself. Could be done using an industrial feel should you wish, or industrial fittings, or freestanding. If you wanted to play with it first, could use something like Ikea IVAR 2.26m version simply claD to see how it feels *. I suppose it could be done in cloth, or murals. Upcycle a really big Victorian furniture item? May be cheaper than MDF. Would it be difficult to stop it sounding hollow? Integrated desk? F (Play that right and you get a storage system for your workshop past the Management *) -
