  1. I supplied pictures which were okayed - then had to change the brick as there were no longer any the same available for immediate delivery. They look pretty similar though. My inset balcony is on the plans that got approved but when the need for sky hooks was discovered I ditched that. I instructed the architect to put in more drawings but she didn't and I am just hoping for the best. She said it was a non- material amendment and as such I'm hoping there will be no issue.
  2. I recently had a girl from Taiwan staying with me. I began to dread opening the fridge the smell of 'that stuff' was so pungent. Always agreed with this. When I was nursing the 'scruffy' kids were far more healthy and robust than the poor little 'darlings', they bounced back, from illness and recovered from any treatment more quickly and were far less likely to catch anything new whilst they were in.
  3. That's normally my kind of luck. You wouldn't have found it if you hadn't placed the order
  4. And you had never heard of Buildhub at that time - or you would have been a bit more savvy
  5. in where???
  6. There have to be some even cheaper than yours for them to post a £1.6k average. The likes of me, and others, just have to suck it up in the end. Congrats to you for getting a good deal.
  7. Probably not relevant but may be useful to keep in mind. I spoke with some neighbours about my possible development way before even I had any real intentions. These particular neighbours, in their 80's were encouraging and had no objections at all. I spoke to them again, when I was having plans drawn up but before going for planning, again very encouraging. After they got the obligatory letter from the planning department. They suddenly , on the advice of their son (future inheritor) didn't want the development and put in an objection to the council.. It didn't carry any weight and they have been fine with me since but. ... It is just worth bearing in mind that elderly neighbours have younger children, and whilst it is right that they protect their parents interest - they also have an eye for their own inheritance.
  8. Fascinating - especially (prior to the printing bit) when they vacuumed extracted onto cartilage and child suddenly had a perfectly normal looking ear
  9. @Nickfromwales when can we clone you?
  10. first one bad second one good very happy to pay however they want when I am happy with the results.
  11. It's a least one of my 5 a day - innit
  12. These 'boys' have no soul! Having said that, If someone takes the time to explain why these things won't work in the way we expect, we then have the option to compromise, or be prepared to pay the extra to make them work. On this site - generally - that happens. BUT other than that, why do some people just shrug their shoulders and do things they way they always have without regard to the customer paying the bill Oh, and I do know this happens to both sexes. I hate when someone (a) just does what I said without explaining the consequences, I am not a builder but neither am I thick. (b) says 'that won't work' without explaining why but I love people who say something on the lines of I can see what you are trying to do but the issues around this are ... have you thought about ... or ... or perhaps we could ...? Then I can make an informed decision.
  13. All's fine with wine Thank God I don't live in scotland - would bankrupt me well and truly. @newhome would you like supplies bringing up?
  14. There is some issue if they use a third party to process the payment I think. Not just Paypal, some companies, rather than accept direct credit card do it through a third party. Not sure of the details as it hasn't affected me.
  15. How the ^*^& can he think that you would go to all the trouble of finding an aesthetically pleasing outside tap to then be satisfied with that mess. People doing jobs like that give other members of their trade a bad name.
  16. This demonstrates the lesson I (seemingly repeatedly ) learn. Confidence and ability are not necessarily related
  17. That pink always reminds me of surgical pink bandages/plasters lol
  18. I think Nick and Peter should start wearing their underpants over their trousers
  19. I was charged 'mates rates' for a simple plumbing job - Yorkshire so not exactly a 'hot spot'. Came n at £30 per hour. Commented I was surprised to be told that her accountant had told her she should be charging £50 per hour, so it was cheap. (Connecting an already fitted radiator to already fitted piping - it's a long story.)
  20. cheapest solution is nail varnish remover
  21. Because they went through a cable they had to stop work. My electricity is not now on site as promised. Luckily I had not arranged meter fitting as I just had a bad feeling about it. The work has to be reschedule for another Sunday. He doesn't think he can get it done this Sunday as it is Bank Holiday. So it will be another fortnight before I get power on site. At least there is no extra cost to me.
  22. AND that's how to avoid the censor.
  23. Is the 'Hetty' any good?
