Did you sort this? What's above the plasterboard? cjard (formerly of the last parish?) has posted on GBF about oily knauf wool insulation causing marks like this.

I think something microfibre based would be better than a duster and in this instance something like a microfibre noodle cleaning mitt would be a cost effective solution. Whether you use a stick, a piece of string or even put something in it to make it a pig. for those who don't clean cars and have no idea what I'm on about

I bought the Soudal Kit from Screwfix and the gun has gone sticky after only 5 or 6 cans.

Screw? I had a couple of blooms that eventually faded. Will put some Zinsser over before final decoration.

I have only just realised who the PM is...

I did an hour of weeding this week. Filled a 240litre wheelie bin... holly is a pain in the ass, isn't it? Even when you don't sit on it.

It was a corridor/stairwell in a dry building so unlikely to have been anything wet related.

Weeds, weeds, tall waterside weeds

Having checked it out again definitely about 5m of Himalayan balsam along the bank. A load has gone in the garden bin which I shouldn't have done with JK. and one of my ducks in the background -
Not especially although I am familiar with the song in question. That and Santa Claus you...

That I understand but Fermacell gets mentioned and now there's the Habito stuff, which presumably have the same issues. Just wondering what the additional 'cons' are with the duraline?

I was on a (industrial) site recently and spotted lots of yellow-ish plasterboard. Aware of the significance of blue, green and red varieties but unsure of yellow, I looked it up and suspect it was gyproc duraline or similar that gives better impact protection. I just wondered why I hadn't seen it mentioned in a domestic environment? Cost?

Had a bit of a dig. Only 10sq m or so, in the unmolested part of the garden, turned over the top 100-150mm. It was not particularly tough to do manually, a small cultivator/rotovator would speed things up though. I know that deeper down we're on solid yucky clay but the top bit looks dark and rich, unfortunately full of roots and god knows what but little in the way of rubble. If I can find a decent spot for the trampoline it may be possible to manually dig over a decent size patch and turf sooner rather than later. From the soil I have, I reckon I wouldn't need much top soil either.

Nothing like that, we've got a few of that/cow parsley/giant hogwart in the main part of the garden I don't think even those are giant hogwart to be honest. -

As it stands I'd go with Himilayan Balsam but the lack of redness in the stems leaves me less than 100% certain -
I noticed some tall, quick growing weeds by the stream at the bottom of my garden encroaching into my garden and was struck with fear... On closer inspection I don't think they are you know what, J****ese K***weed. They do have a green hollow stem, leaves are thinner and longer than typical JK leaves and above ground they are just green in color, possibly even with pink flowers. Except at the base in the ground which is red and has little red nodules coming off the main stem. I tried googling and have not come up with any suggestions. Any ideas? I know, I know, I should have taken a photo. This scare has motivated me to also deal with horse tail problem I have at the front of the house.

As described its a split board and the big RCD tripped. I know I found a loose wire but I'm not sure if that was coincidence as the wire was nominally in place when I took it off. this was a 1 gang switch but a 2 way circuit. No issues using the other switch on this light which is a 4 gang affair.
-
I did not install these switches myself
-
Metal switch fingers unknown but no evidence of moisture on switch Circa 2015 Wylex CU with 2 big breaker things and many more small ones switches, big breaker thing tripped. electrics installed and tested within last 6 months

I'm sure I will regret asking this but here we go. My youngest child was messing about with a light switch last night, on/off/on/off etc. He screamed and the lights went out. The RCBO on that bank of fuses had tripped but not the MCB on this lighting circuit. He complained his foot hurt and my wife thought he had stubbed his toe on the wall or furniture but I suspect he touched a metal sofa leg with his foot and whatever happened earthed through his foot. He is ok and will probably not play with light switches for at least a couple of days. With the electrics off, I unscrewed the switch. It seemed to be wired correctly and the metal switch itself was earthed. On further inspection, one of the 2 wires at the bottom of the switch (Live?) was loose. Although it looked like it was still in the correct hole. So I loosened the screw in the connection and re-did it. Put the switch back, reset the RCBO and tested that switch and the others in the locality with no repeat of the problem. What next?

I've used HG mould spray (I think I picked it up in B&Q) with success on a couple of small areas before painting - seems to be no ill effects. (FWIW the spray is the absolute daddy when it comes to removing well established mould from large areas before giving your house back to the landlord)

Credit/Debit Reward Cards, Discounts etc
daiking replied to Ferdinand's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
It is also worth investigating the fringe benefits associated with any sort of schemes you are a member of. I'm member of a scheme via work for childcare vouchers (Edenred) which in turn has a affiliate benefit scheme of retail and online discounts. Via this I'm able to buy B&Q gift cards with an 8% discount and Wickes cards with normally a 9% discount but currently its 13%. These cards can be reloaded as and when required. Used in conjunction with in store discount it really helps. Does something like the CSMA offer similar incentives? Trade/Professional membership institutions?- 151 replies

Those are the Mod B, I've got the 9W Mod A. Maybe that's the improvement. although I also discovered that the dishwasher zaps FM radio as well and that's a Neff not a F@nny Flameaux. [vent]Not only did the idiot electrician make holes that were too big in the ceiling, he also decided he would cut out the quick release fitting between transformer and lamp[/vent]

Look on the bright side, one day you'll run out of money but at least you'll have stopped haemorrhaging it I met someone last night who told me he doesn't need much money to live because he doesn't have a car, kids or a mortgage and I realised... shit, I've got 2 each of all of them.
-
Slight confession to make on these. I had previously stated that they didn't produce any interference - after testing the 12W units. I bought some 9W units to for my kitchen and have now discovered they interfere with FM radio within 2m or so. Not sure if its the quantity (5) or what. Will need to investigate further.
