  2. Lol, I was going to post this. Another example of a professional being a t**t. I thought the professions were supposed to act with integrity? The not so invisible hand is currently spinning Adam Smith in his grave. Why don’t we just lock them up in prison and be done with it?
  3. All that wood is going to give you more bridges than Amsterdam anyway.
  4. Well im going to f****** nuke any Himalayan Balsam that I find this year. I’m not having that come up through the lawn. I might actually try to transplant my brambles to the other side of the garden. A) they’ll get more sun and better fruit B) will offer some prickly security along a low fence and C) fight off the H B.
  5. Am I the only one taking notes in preparation of a future edition of buildhub-sos? Pub within stumbling distance - check 24hr supermarket for snacks - check within 40mins of CPC- check.... loads of beer - need to get that home brew on the go
  6. Sbk brushwood killer (triclopyr?) waiting for my weeds to start showing through the grass...
  7. I don’t think that’s the choice at all, putting your own values to them of doing any job to support their families. They’re slaves for the N. Koreans and Poles. The choice is be weak and do what what’re told or be strong and resist (and die). I would also accept that 99.99% of us are SS prison guards in waiting. Witchcraft masquerading as science, from you of all people
  8. So now the local Poles must work 7 days a week with long shifts and paid very little to “compete”?
  9. Living the European dream...
  10. Was that a rhetorical question? As my favourite answer is always the Boomers and Xers so they can farm Millenials like battery hens. <<<insert idiom about reaping and sowing>>>
  11. I’d go with yes as it’s a new install with recent CU
  12. “Renew the lower cables“ ??? can I run a cable from the new position down to the lower socket and come off that directly?
  13. Extremely unlikely it is fed from anywhere else. This wiring was part of ‘new build’ and not connected to wiring in room next door. Not it sure whether to keep making a mess to find out or stop here
  14. So now I have only 2 cable drops and a lungful of rock wool. most expeditious way out of this hole is to cut the cables half way up the wall to stick a new double socket leaving the existing sockets In the lower position but not connected to anything.
  15. Have you seen my latest post? I think I’ll need to climb up the loft to check and I’m going to need a plasterer as well as an electrician.
  16. Except further up the wall where I have dug a hole there are only 2 wires so I’m now guessing it was wired in a fashion like this. Which makes things a little trickier... wife will not be pleased
  17. Real electrics now, 13A ()... I thought there was a double socket behind a piece of furniture at normal socket height and I need it higher so I was going to add a spur. Turns out there’s 2 double sockets and it looks like they are separate themselves, not one a spur off the other. Is there any harm in doing what I’ve done with the light switches? Chasing the wall and cutting the wires back where I want them?
  18. Today’s surprise when trying to raise a single switch...
  19. No dwang it’s lightweight block so plugs and screws. Stuck the same box back as there was only 30mm depth. Might attempt it again when I’ve more time.
  20. Building regs won't be an issue . Its actually a bedside light switch that was at a low height and then my wife picked bedroom furniture that was too tall for the switch placement :face palm:
  21. Wrong place @Trw144 but what is your outdoor flooring?
  22. Only managed to get one c*** to come round who’s f***** off and not given a price. Not only that but the unprofessional prick took one the lights apart, phoned me up at work to moan they were small and then had lost one of the face plate screws after leaving it all in bits. C***. They’re all c****.
  23. Right or wrong it all went back the same way and seems to work. not quite the same way, I couldn’t get all 5 earths + a strap to the plate, in the back box earth connection. So 2 go straight to the plate with the strap. i have another switch to raise but that doesn’t have the 2 way stitch on it thank god.
  24. Another grommet would have cost 2p, ffs.
  25. Could get a fairly low profile solution with an USB extension lead. Plug the male end into a usb supply
