  1. Coffee machine is 1500w so I’ll have to switch the heater off when I use that ?
  2. The indications are that we have at least another 6 months mostly out of the office. 1 day a week max in the office and I *need* something better that how I am currently working whilst heading into Autumn/Winter. Medium term I will be able to justify working from home part time (although within 2 years we are planning to have a proper large garden room). And this will just be a shed again.
  3. Specs wise there still a bit of work to do, mainly on the floor. 12mm floor won’t stand up to using a chair and probably needs a frame to insulate. A lot of attention to detail to keep the bugs out ? Probably only going to get 25-50mm insulation on the walls will need a think about bug sealing, insulating and ventilating the roof
  4. Cheers, that looks like it works
  5. Pre-built Shed - I’m struggling to find one with the correct config - window on the short side and door on the opposite short end or opposite end of the long door. Also in stock and not £500+. Window needs to point to only open space, hence short end. lining - plasterboard would be nice for a more civilised environment but concerns of damp as left unheated Lighting - I have some 12w led panels knocking about that I would use. Could plug them in ? Desk - obviously just need to build something to fit the space when made Power - close to house so an extension lead but heating would be needed in winter (1kW) and coffee machine, obviously. If I did a lean to, I’d still need to insulate and board the wall so may as just build the 4th wall but board in OSB and Build it next to the wall rather than clad to save money.
  6. Things I’m would need not make: Door Window Things I would need to decide: Insulation type Interior finish (I don’t want to be working in a literal shed) Things I would go with as they’re cheap and simple: Felt roof Feather edge cladding (I would change anything for something cheaper or easier for little extra cost)
  7. No. (The drive way narrows to less than 2m through the garden gates)
  8. Things I can do: make a base floor structure sat on concrete blocks/engineering bricks screw some 4x2 together to make a structure felt a roof Things I can’t do/don’t know Electrics How to build off the existing wall Roof a lean to without having to properly flash in the existing brick course
  9. This is possibly more suitable as a blog post. I don’t like working from home, it’s not something that I have ever asked my employer and it has been murder with the schools closed and I don’t have a suitable workspace in the house. My garden room project is a long term thing that can’t be done immediately and it looks like part-time home working for me will be a long term trend. As such, I should look at what I have and how I can use it. My house has a dark, damp, east facing, unused side return area. It is paved and approx 2m wide by 4m long. It has a wall I could use for a ‘lean to’ structure. What would it take to create a usable work space, approx 1.2m x 1.8m? ‘Shed’ + insulation + big window + extension lead
  10. Yes but you should dig them out really as pulling them its too easy to leave some root behind.
  11. Probably just going to buy some premade to be honest. It’s a lot of work as we want double sided for privacy. Put efforts into painting it ourselves to save a bit. I appreciate your optimism.
  12. Cheers, it makes a difference if you need 1km of batten
  13. That's cheap as I can't find anything much below £1.50 for treated. I also need double-sided slats which is a lot more work. I also need to take a closer look at that youtube channel as I'm wary of how on earth I will get concrete piers level myself when I get round to the same project.
  14. @timsk Where did you get the slatted fence? DIY or retail?
  15. Looks like the back diesel generator installation on a large industrial site.
  16. Just a glorified shed base, lots of short 100x100 fence posts in 2 bags of concrete. I'm not looking to start building yet, just starting to properly plan and will increase spec where required.
  17. I'll be honest, I've been looking at this sort of thing for a while and thought that 30m2 was the no BR limit. And I think I've budgeted about £1200 for a base structure (not concrete) for 27m2 so maybe I need to re-visit my sums.
  18. This weather, FML. It’s wrecking my courgettes, they’re just dying on the stems with rotten flowers ?. Not sure I’ll ever see a duke either. And nothing else is growing apart from a few leaves in the cold. Roll on next week.
  19. So the professional garden rooms want a slab and then lay timber bearers on it. If I went down that route, what spec slab would I need? So I can cost it? Better than minimum shed spec 100mm thick Less than re-inforced ring beam type slab. But what? Compacted hardcore + blinding? How thick? It’s not a house, it’s a timber frame spec shed. Extra depth under walls? There’s a new thread about a garden workshop 25% bigger than this. It’s massively more engineered than my proposal due to masonry walls and green roof but is my outline plan not practical?
  20. He wants to let the ‘entertainment’ into the house whilst he’s supping a cocktail in the hot tub ?
  21. But... did you leave the iron on?
  22. Pretty sure, it’s what he does in the installation help video.
  23. Not sure what you mean? It’s a fence post, you put 600mm+ in the ground and fill the hole with concrete.
