My point was there are always outliers that people can pick to ‘prove’ that some hugely unfair system is completely and utterly fair. Look at house prices in Northern Ireland for instance. None of that negates the fact that a lot of central bank financial support post 2007 went straight into residential property and not into all the good things @Bitpipe mentions. It is confidence in this market that seems to be the underpinning of the entire UK economy. A market where the bulk of the democratic power is held by you know whom ?

And the pay rises were how much? Its an old one but its a good one https://www.ft.com/content/241733ea-317b-3256-ba63-bb3571e0a1f4 https://grandemotte.wordpress.com/modern-myths-2-interest-rates-are-lower-so-buying-an-expensive-house-is-cheap/ Plus from 1983 to 2000 you were getting tax relief on mortgage payments.

Are you familiar with the Paris Hilton meme? The way to solve poverty, is to stop being poor. The problem is if you 'grow the economy' by pumping debt into it (broken housing market, student fees etc, etc) and unlimited immigration you may be increasing the number of buttons in the economy but you're not improving the economy ? I wouldn't recommend turning the country into an English speaking, patronisingly caricatured tax haven based on over-enthusiastic sentimentality either. I was going to lower the tone there but I'll just give you another Partridge-esque shrug. Sounds reasonable and also shows what a resounding failure the last few decades have been.

I don’t disagree about the political trope regarding national budgets, I just think that the increasing expectation that households should be run this national government perpetual debt way is even worse. We’re expected to prop up the economy, spend everything, saving is a sin etc, etc. And I don’t know about you but I was worried about plenty coming out of the Labour Party last autumn. The anti-Semitism? The confiscation of private property? The carbon net zero targets? The reason not to have winter elections is not the weather, it’s because the lunatics at the party conference are still all too readily remembered.

??? The immutable fact that houses have not ever and will not ever reduce to reflect a new economic environment. Like everything, the market will adjust. In this case finance will undoubtedly be made available so that your precious house prices don’t ever fall. One of the big issues we have is not that evil Tory politicians want to run national economics as one might want to run a balanced budget household... But... That centrists everywhere want us to run our households like a national government would (mis) manage their finances over generations.

Saw this last night with the Chilean forest hotel (no thanks) the circus caravan refurb (nice) and the grain silo bar. I have to say I didn’t understand the grain silo bar. It was described as being something portable that could be erected and dismantled frequently. Yes it bolted together but it didn’t look like something that you could put up in a couple of hours and take down as quickly the next day. Temporary structure certainly but not exactly pop-up. At least they had to assemble it in a mate’s garden as theirs was too small. Some realism at last. Far too many of these projects are people who just happen to have or know someone with a spare barn/workshop they can store their folly in. -
I’m glad I had the foresight to retrofit my UFH before the slab was poured... The benefit of not connecting the UFH for 4 years is that you realise that a decent amount of insulation, 100mm EPS + 100mm PIR, means a tiled floor is not the sort of chilling cold you get in an older un-insulated extension. Even without UFH, the insulation makes a discernible difference so it should be the priority.

A fantastic achievement of what you can do when you are... *checks notes* given a 200 sq m barn in the garden to convert. Gregg and Georgie can be proud of their incredible achievement. The things they were dealing with and the work they put in deserve enormous credit. But Kevin and Grand Designs can go do one over this ‘low budget’, ‘4REAL’ project.

(expletive deleted)er still works

It wasn’t me... It’s absolutely rock solid and At least 6 inches below ground level will need to go as this is the future access route past the cabin. I’ll have to poison it as well as I expect it to continue to send out shoots in the future .

I’ve probably missed this somewhere but what is powering/controlling your speakers? Trad hifi setup? Bluetooth controller/amp? -
I know but I’ve only got a framing square lying around and one pair of hands at the moment so it’s tricky. 5355 vs 5310 was the best I got it but I’m going to move it once I can get rid of the holly stump.

The log cabin is only going to be about 13sq m internal area which seems a bit of a waste. But starting to measure out it’s clear that without removing big trees or completely blocking off access, this is about as big as possible from the standard options we looked at. Ball park it’s 14’ x 11’, which is bigger than our lounge (small houses). Having punted the original shed back into the far corner, there still a load of room for something behind the log cabin. Probably have a covered storage area there for furniture/gardening stuff. Or that composting toilet in the future.

The holly was a really straggly, odd looking 4m tall tree so the stump is very firmly in the ground shall we say.

Of course that’s the geometric proof but I just couldn’t get them equal.
