  1. point being summer heat pump use is free anyway with excess solar. so its only winter where planning/arbitrage is needed.
  2. get your local councillor round. not the parish one, the county one.
  3. rarely see kitchen tiles in high end builds anymore, bit like purple baths! stone splashback behind hob with upstand round the rest and thats it. We didnt bother on ours and have no issues.
  4. its normal no matter how many times you clean them while grouting you get a film left. as long as the grout was decent can just jet wash it all.
  5. if a grab can reach over that wall it would be gone in 20 mins if you had the soil in a heap ready, could drop a digger over the wall using same.
  6. get a 5 tonner. more bank for your buck than a little stealable one. Can lift a ton bag. Has reach to load a 8 wheeler for muck away. Many many times quicker than a 3 tonner.
  7. 7p from 11:30pm to 5:30am only time our heat pump is on during the winter, the eddi fires up the immersion as well taking the tank to 80c so heat pump isnt wasting time on DHW.
  8. octopus didnt ask me to prove i have an EV just that we had a car charger they could talk to, which we have as every new build has to have one.
  9. first job is to do heat loss calcs for your home to see what heat output you are going to need. It's not that difficult just time consuming. here is a free one https://www.changeplan.co.uk/heat_loss_calculator.php once you have that then its just a case of sizing a heat pump and emitters. You can add cooling as well for example by using fancoil radiators. Upgrade the hob to induction and get yourself a nice outdoor kitchen from the saving for blazing steaks on!!
  10. have a look at the souber morticing jig. awesome for latches and mortices for bathrooms etc. https://www.ironmongerydirect.co.uk/product/souber-dbb-latch-and-lock-morticer-jig-247397?vat=1&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=22180738972&gbraid=0AAAAAD-uRIQje6OxgetEy6Z0ydNuIsa50&gclid=CjwKCAjw1dLDBhBoEiwAQNRiQWtOV_tGpyOKeZWa4gobYSOvg-wZOLnMWdsIUpfy1oxzcyZrxEs3WxoCo9YQAvD_BwE I bought the offset addon for it to dot he secret hinges. green mdf track sawed down makes much better and wider stops than the crappy 25mm paint sticks that come with liners.
  11. whats behind that wall to rear, looks to be a unit/shed there . Any access for a grab wagon ?
  12. horrific. Notify your home insurance and let them know the council may have made your home no longer weatherproof. They will be on it. https://www.wienerberger.co.uk/tips-and-advice/roofing/what-are-bonding-gutters.html
  13. interesting! Tell more. We installed our own and I asked octopus about paying for export and they refused without a MCS cert.
  14. yesterday was hottest day of year for us 34C outside the ASHP in cooling mode consumed 8.78 KWH in the 24 hour period. Given the solar was 30kwh still a very large surplus. Can't beat free cooling.
  15. the issue with plumbers is 99% of them have no clue how to system design a ASHPO for efficiency. Any of them can throw a kit together using same principles as a gas boiler. This is one of the reasons they have such a bad rep. If you see a roomstat anywhere you know for sure its a shit install.
  16. you may not have enough height if the roof is pitched to get the stairs in. You need 2m clear above the nose of every tread.
  17. https://www.aircon.panasonic.eu/GB_en/product/smart-fan-coils/ you never really want to run them below 16c in reality so dew point should rarely be an issue. They do come with condensate connections though in any case. Just make sure to insulate the supply and returns.
  18. zoning..... This should be re-worded to 'waste more energy for no reason at all'. Try just heating the bottom right corner of a radiator. same thing.
  19. could you not get the octopus smart meter wifi bridge ? We have one as mobile signal is non existent. Works great.
  20. its only saving grace is in the winter it does have a marginal effect boosting the incoming air.....
  21. dot a dab for me. the airtightness game is already lost if your relying on a plasterer to fix it for you!
  22. well its live and they taking orders. Free charging on this tariff, assume including on the eletroverse network, . Starting at £299 a month, Single phase bi directional wall charger is supplied.
  23. your putting a lot of faith in those 2 wooden posts holding up all that weight. Could seriously injure/kill someone if it fell on someone. I'd replace those with steel posts driven well into the ground.
  24. fancoils > Aircon Too many positives vs split system. Just oversize them if you have a leaky house and/or poor glazing etc Small ones in our place kept bedrooms at 21/2 24x7 with 34c outside. Cost virtually nothing to run as there is huge excess of solar and night-time is cheap rate in any case. If our tesla Powerwall hadn't gone bang that was enough to spin the heat pump all night.
