@Temp..... The heating should turn off at 9pm just before I retire but it always remains on unless I physically turn it off either permenently or I knock the temp right down to 5 degees or so. Then the warmth in the bedroom wakes me up at silly o'clock (eg 2.30am ) this morning and I go down and turn it off again When I check the control it's calling for heat, the heating light is in not the Hw.

Hi I have a Heatrea Sadia megaflo system installed with a Worcester Bosch Boiler and a Danfoss control unit. The issue seems to be that the heating seems to come on at random times and ignores the times set on the control panel. Another strange occurance is: If I turn off the heating on the Danfoss the numbers on the boiler display, (say from 63 to 76) increase....I would expect this number to fall ( is it a temperature gauge ?) Thanks

@Nickfromwales I freed them all. ?

Thanks @Nickfromwales... Try what again? I really don't understand this.... Surely the system should be stable once all the lock shields are set? Yet if ojust ne TVR is adjusted it throws the whole system out again? Does that mean I should balance it with all the rads that will be shut off (7) off before I started? What then happens when I want to turn those on only occasionally? Throws it out again? Sorry! I've removed all Tvrs as nearly all pins had seized up, WD40 and a hammer helped!

Hello you! 15mm copper pipe to all rads. I keep the Tvrs on full for every rad, always .... But once the system is balanced does it effect this if I close down rads via tvrs in the rooms that are shut off for most of the year?
-
@Nickfromwales..... Appreciate your insight RE balancing heating AGAIN! Spent today working through the heating system of 18 rads. All work bar one! Ground floor and furthest from boiler.... It did work until I started upstairs... Any ideas?
-
Wanted to post in heating and plumbing but it was blanked out so I posted here
-
I did it a while ago but it's become 'unbalanced' and I don't know why
-
Ola back! There are 4 rads that are luke warm. One is the furthest away upstairs, two is on the landing, three and four are cast iron rads on the ground floor. I did a brilliant job of balancing them thanks to following your brilliant advice but for some reason it's all gone pear shaped..... A bit like me!

Sorry for posting here but the area I needed was blocked. Anyhoo, a heating issue..... I balanced the system awhile ago and it worked perfectly for ages,. Suddenly it all gone Pete Tong. What would happen if I opened all shut off valves fully?

@James H That's very helpful, I'm actually not very good at bodging but I'm pretty sure the entire bay will have to be replaced soon but until I can fund this I just have to make it dry! So just to clarify... The anatomy from inside out is... Joists Ply Felt ???
-
@recoveringacademic the pub is exactly where husband is heading.... I however am not! Anyhoo, the facia is rotten at the corner, we plan to to replace the whole roof thing with 1" marine ply Can I use shed felt? It only has to last a few years until I replace those cursed crittalls!

Well I think it's what made this country great..... Genius! -
Hi I have to repair a flat roof over a bay window.... Approx 1960. The facia is rotten, the ply foof is rotten, the felt is rotten and the top part of the window frame is rotten (crittal window into timber frame) What felt can I use that doesn't need torching? Talk me through it someone

Hi, I want to build a small porch on the back of the house. The image attached is how it will look with the exception of the return walls will be clad in Hardiboard and the brick plinth is the step Structure would be timber, clad in hardiplank and a concrete tile roof. Will I need foundations ? Im hoping I can sit the whole thing on top of a brick and granite step (I put the step in so it's pretty solid!) I want to avoid any brick plinths too so can timbersole plate sit directly on the step

@Nickfromwales@PeterW I've now discovered what I think is an asbestos water cistern in the attic .... It's unplumped but looks like dust around the base. It's too big to fit through the hatch whole so I'm thinking of wrapping it and leaving it. I've researched the appropriate mask and protective wear..... Am I playing with fire!?
-
@PeterW It's required practice to seal the panels with a special paint so it prevents fibers from dislodged if it is Raw asbestos ... I spoke with our compliance officer at work (NHS) and he confirmed that it's the correct protocol. Belt and braces!!!

You are of course right but it's easier said than done when I was was responsible for keeping him safe

Thanks everyone, I'm panicking a bit less now! He is going to take a sample from the garage ceiling which he said is the same stuff. He charging me £1000 for bagging up and removing two shed walls and applying two coats of paint to the ceiling.... Have I been had? Haven't paid yet!
