  1. Hi I'm building a new bathroom. Had heating pipes put in but now decided to go electric. Waiting for my electrician to run the wire is holding me up on fixing floor down and plasterboarding ect ( I'm doing this myself) So, what cable must I use so I can run the cable in the stud wall? Where would I 'start' the cable for electrician to connect into mains? There are cables running above in the attic and below in the floor void ( I won't be touching any electrics! ) My late husband rewired the house so I have rolls and rolls of cable! Any advice much appreciated.

    Plumbers!

No wish to tar all plumbers with the same brush but....one straight forward new bathroom plumbing job, one plumber started and never returned, second plumber did another part and told me straight he would be back for second fix having already agreed to return. Both were recommended to me. I'm getting a complex!
  3. Another problem! The cubicle walls are not perfectly square and I only have one shot when cutting them....any advice to accurately measuring and cutting the panels? I am truely hopeless as geometry and measuring!
  4. gaz-moose.....they havnt stated which panels as they won't provide a breakdown! I'm not using them anyway at that price! Maybe it's the agent that's trying to rip me off.... Which panel would you recommend?.
  5. On a similar thread....In our rental property I've been given a price of £1500 to temporarily remove shower valve, install 3 wet wall panels in a shower, (over tiles,) remove old door and replace with new one, refit valve. Company has refused to give breakdown of costs! It's a bungalow, easy access, clean site, nothing complicated. Does the price seem OK???
  6. Hi, it was a standalone job. No other trades involved as I'm doing everything else around the plumber....and now I've seen what he's done I could have done it myself (but lack confidence). He was on site for 2 hours and 'picking up parts' for 2 hours! He's done an OK job but I always feel ripped off. So just trying to get a feel for hourly rates ect. I know now to get a fixed price but guess I'm just too trusting of people 🙃
  7. Hi What should it cost first? Run plastic pipes with push fittings for a basin, shower and loo.? Then set shower tray and trap, run waste pipes for basin and shower and connect into existing internal stack? clean clear site, approximately 4m run..nothing complicated. ( actual Connection into system was done by guys fitting boiler so discount this task ) Thanks
  8. Tray does have fall built in. And a macalpine fast flow trap. So guys are you all saying that I can lose the 'rocking' with the adhesive? By bedding the tray on a thick bed of adhesive and tapping it down to compensate for the uneven shower underside?
  9. Ther are no instructions for it. I'm using tile adhesive with a 10mm notched trowelSo can I level the base using adhesive or no?corner to corner across the diagonal it's about 10mm. My ply is bang on level! Thanks
  10. About to set the tray on ply and noticed the underside of the tray isn't level so the tray rocks diagonally to the tune of about 10mm. Can I 'lose' the rocking when I put the adhesive down or should I send it back (if they'll rake it !) AM I over thinking? Feeling fed up...

    Oops!

I don't know if he's miffed or not as he hasn't returned any of my emails or texts ...even before I got the other guys involved. He's hot the heads up now anyway. Yes isolation valves would've been helpful!

    Oops!

My boilers was condemned, a new one fitted. While the engineers were twiddling their thumbs waiting for the boiler to arrive I asked them to connect water and heating pipes to the system as it was drained down. These pipes are in an bathroom I'm fitting out but my regular plumber is being very evasive and it's preventing me from getting on with my part. I realise now this connecting is a mistake! So when Mr plumber finally comes back the system will have to be drained again for him to connect shower, sink and loo....am I correct or is there away of doing this without drain the system? There are no isolation valves fitted and it's plastic pipe with copper tails.....I'm an idiot!
  14. 'The skeilings need insulating before they are plasterboarded.! Sorry, don't understand this part? Is that a typo? I think he intended for the ducting to turn 45⁰ (from the photo i posted) and run horizontal on the ceiling joist in the attic and then turn 90⁰ down through the ceiling into the bathroom/fan
  15. I found this among his bits.... Thankyou so much for your reply! I assume I need some sort of 'motor' to pump the air outside?
  16. My late husband started installing this bathroom extractor fan but I now need to finish it. Please can someone tell me what I need to bye ( preferably a with photo) to finish the job? It's a rectangle vent in the soffit but that's all I can tell you I'm afraid Thanks
  17. Hi, I do mean wet wall panels....so done with tiling! You say pb the lot???? Isn't that a no no? I though pb was the devil's work in a shower cubicle? What mastic do you use??
  18. Hi I'm creating a new shower and decided to line it with wet wall panels. 1 wall is brick and two walls are stud work. My question is; Do I put anything between the studs and panel? Or do the panels go directly onto the stud work? What would I use if something has to go behind the panels? Cement board is too heavy. There are sooo much conflicting advice on this I don't know which way to go!

    Firmacell

Hi anyone, We built a dormer window to house a bathroom. It is still unfinished. I have a very simple question. The carcass is 2x4 with 25mm ply and Hardy cladding. The face wall rattles when I thump it! so I thought I would add 4 x 2 crosswise to strengthen it. Am I wasting my time?
  20. Small problem....I don't have the internal space to add another 100mm, +20mm ....its a small bathroom! Any alternatives that take up minimal space? Thsnkyou so much for your help!
  21. Hi, Looking for guidance and advice on insulation fir the above bathroom structure. My late husband and I built the thing about 5 yrs ago and now its upto me to complete it. Cross section from outside goes thus; Hardy cladding Battons Breather membrane 25mm marine ply 2 x 4 frame (so undersized l guess!) Breather membrane Rocwool insulation between 2x4 I aim to plasterboard and skim. So... Should I cross baton 2x4 to strengthen frame? Should I used the thin foil blanket for additional insulation? I know I've probably done it all wrong but I have to work with what I have. Thankyou!

So insulation.....I've put a moisture paper and stuffed some old wool insulation batts between the roof rafters in what will be a bathroom and plan PB ontop of that. Is there anything else I need to add for insulation and or Building regs?

I'm concerned about weight of cement board. It's an old house and although I want to use it for walls I'm unsure about load bearing. What about 6mm insulated cement board? Can I paint it too? Trying to find alternative to pb and a plasterer!
  24. Can I use Firmacell as an alternative to Plasterboard in a bathroom? If I can, how do you hide the joins? There are, as usual a number of different options too, which would anyone advise please? Thanks as always
