Self Commissioning
Eric replied to Marko's topic in Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)
I bought my own anemometer & balanced it, I followed a guide on here. -
Welcome to the forum. Sounds like you have researched it well, it’s easy enough to self install. You will need to insulate the unit, ducts & manifolds in the attic. I can’t help with the calculations but others certainly will.

Septic tank needs replacing, been offered Tricel UK8 or Harlequin Cap9
Eric replied to Kuro507's topic in Waste & Sewerage
I have just ordered the Tricel Novo 10 gravity outlet. It won’t be operational until next year. Looks to be a good treatment plant.- 1 reply

Ecology. No issue if you own the land. 6-8 weeks for application, quite difficult to get the first appointment. You need to have a plan of costs, proof of income, outgoings etc. Very helpful & easy to deal with.

Lines across middle pane of triple glazed Internorm Slider
Eric replied to Meabh's topic in Windows & Glazing
Good luck trying to get Internorm to do anything about it or any other problems you encounter. -
Electric all day long but we had power…

I would fit tall units in the space instead of the unit’s & worktop, should get 3 of them there. Eye level oven, fridge & freezer built in & loads of storage. Downdraught hob on the island. The other units will go up to the utility room wall & will look better without the fridge there.

Closing Cavity/Ventilation Timber Frame with Stone Cladding
Eric replied to James1234's topic in Timber Frame
I would suggest to fit a service void. How about your 150 timber frame with pir, 25mm pir over the studs, AVCL, 38*45 battens creating the service void then plasterboard? -
Closing Cavity/Ventilation Timber Frame with Stone Cladding
Eric replied to James1234's topic in Timber Frame
I would fit the soffit to the timber frame, closing off. Stone then gets built up to the soffit. I would have the vents below the dpc. Where is your service void? I think the AVCL should be on the outside of your insulation. -
Roof Vent Location
Eric replied to Marko's topic in Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)
I think they are meaning the exhaust to atmosphere, as this will condensate. I don’t think the intake should be such a problem but advisable to have fall if possible. You could lower the unit on the wall & should get enough fall on the exhaust duct to the unit. Either have a fall to the unit or outside. Personally I would have had both the ducts on the roof inline separated by at least 1.5m or have gone through the gable if detached? -
With the sheets being on 50mm battens I would say that would provide the ventilation, if you removed the foam strips. House looks smart, is that metal sheets on the walls also?

Eric replied to Russell griffiths's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
Always advised not to put them above showers etc when I have had designs done. -
Mvhr plenum placement
Eric replied to Russell griffiths's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
Not above the shower, how about the middle of the ceiling? -
I use plastic Hozelock connectors, outside all year round.

600 centres is standard so no worries with that. Insulation, vcl & service void before services.

Black pipe will be imperial, you will need an imperial to mdpe coupler.

Insulating under rafters, service battens & plasterboard
Eric replied to Eric's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
I already have the PIR so will use it. Any advantage fitting rockwool in the service void on top of the PIR & VCL?
