Alternatives to Ecology Building Society?
Ian Phillips replied to FelixtheHousecat's topic in Self Build Mortgages
Ecology have been amazing for us. We are just about to pay off our self build mortgage to Ecology, so they will have at least 1 more mortgage they could in theory set up. -
I'm sure it would work as it did before on the latch side.

I think a parliament hinge would work in this situation.

Feeding all the pipes through the timbers took ages, so much easier having 2 people doing it. If you could see the pipes either side of the cupboard before it was plaster boarded you wouldn't think it was so neat! Just be careful when threading them through as if they rub together they wear down fairly rapidly. However much 15mm Hep2o you think you need, double it!! I'm sure there is less on the roll than stated.

Wow, praise from the Welsh Wizard! Thanks for the kind words.

Retrospective building warranty
Ian Phillips replied to kaye's topic in New House & Structural Warranties
Did you get any further with this. I have just been quoted Ā£10k for a retrospective warranty!! This was with Protek. -
Ok, no worries.

I have an old table saw which is now surplus to requirements if your interested? Its a proper sized one that could use some tlc. It's not had much use.

Ā£120 for 2 bottles. Thankfully I moved out of the caravan and into the new house before Christmas so don't have to worry about gas bottles again! We are in West Sussex for reference.

Have you tried Jif/Cif, and a lot of elbow grease!

You only get charged for what you borrow. So if you borrow Ā£125k you only pay Ā£550 a month.

Week 3 - a big hole almost finished
Ian Phillips commented on Thorfun's blog entry in West Sussex Forever Home
Looking good! I'm in West Sussex as well building a self build ? We started in July last year. Roughly where abouts are you? We are near a place called Southwater. -
Static Caravan? Or how about this?...
Ian Phillips replied to Mulberry View's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
Around Ā£10,000 I would hope. It's quite rare with the double glazing apparently? We have been comfortable in it with 2 adults a 2 kids as well for 2.5 years! It's an ABI Trieste if you want some more info. I would imagine it would be worth somewhere near this in another couple of years as well. -

Ian Phillips replied to Mulberry View's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
Where abouts roughly are you? I'm in West Sussex and have been living in a 2 bed static with double glazing and central heating. It's only 5 years old. We should be finished with it in a few months time, which might be a bit late for you? It comes complete with skirting and a covered outside space made from pallets! I'm sure I could throw in a utility shed as well! I think there is a national shortage on good statics at the moment as well! Whats your budget? -

Self build mortgage costings
Ian Phillips replied to DeanoFromTheDock's topic in Self Build Mortgages
Jewson do a service called the Build Aviator, its a couple of hundred quid but it works out all your costings including material quantities and prices and labour costs. Then just input onto a spreadsheet with the quotes you have got from the trades. -
No we havenāt ordered the windows or doors yet, thanks for the information though ?.

Thanks for the replies, I think I will be going down the MVHR route!
