Birds pecking at things is one of the reasons, well the main one putting me off EPDM'ing my flat roofs. The nephew (IT tech) goes to a school where the seagulls have ripped the roof to pieces. You could try one of these for £12.99 then randomly jump up inside and paw at the window:
  2. When I got my first car (a Capri) it was like a dubious treasure trove when I swapped the interior over: Durex wrappers, an earring, loose change and a Dire Straights tape that I've still got!
  3. I found 3rd Class rail tickets to Herne Bay under the floor of an old terraced place and the intact packing "egg boxes" for the old brown Bakelite sockets directly above that point. The sparks must have just lifted the floor boards when they channelled out and dumped the rubbish underneath. Also found a bunch of BONES and had CID round!
  4. Try and position the bog roll holder under suspect areas as I did more by luck than judgement, then when it's all wet having soaked up the water running down the walls it'll remind you you still haven't done that 'effin flat roof! When I redo it I'll be taking into account all the good advice above.
  5. Nothing lost by trying this and it's something you can do together! http://m.wikihow.com/Clean-Soot-from-Brick
  6. Bought some Oakey rolls from S'fix. Cheers.
  7. It's a Makita BO4553
  8. I've borrowed a Makita palm sander that takes 114x140mm sanding sheets. What's the norm with these, buy individual sheets or get it on a roll and cut your own? And if individual sheets where best to buy them? Cheers
  9. Don't know what the delivery cost is: http://www.tradetoolshop.com/evo-stik-wood-adhesive-weatherproof-5litre-718418.html?utm_source=google_shopping&gclid=CIj139yHgs4CFYIW0wod_PgKvA
  10. There was a German supplier my mate mentioned the other day where he got SPAX (albeit decking not flooring) screws from. He said even with £18 shipping it was still massively cheaper than buying here. I'll try and find the name.
  11. EDIT: Those SPAX flooring screws are the best thing ever. Very clever design the way they work too.
  12. D'you mean me? I "lined" our old step down into, boot room / coal shed type thing. BEFORE I had ever heard of eBuild etc. I brought the floor up in mass concrete (no UFH! ) then made a "stud" wall o/of 4"x2" laid it on the concrete floor sitting on slivers of ply packed to suit and glued. Just 4" of fluffy stuff then 22mm chip. Looks to be about 300mm ctrs on the screws? Solider than a solid thing I kid you not and not a squeak from it. Like walking on a concrete floor tbh. From memory the floor was all through housed and glued /screwed too & not a nail in sight. Angular ring nails are the spawn of the Devil. (AND.....it's as clean under the floor as it is on top.....just 'effin COLD! )
  13. Late to the party but I used 22mm chipboard straight onto joists at 400mm centres and the Spax flooring screws jack linked. I DIDN'T glue the joints. Floor is a solid as a rock and no squeaks whatsoever!
  14. I think that on the back of Brexit we should go back to the old colours. BROWN FFS? Up in a loft, inside a jb and brown covered in dust looks almost cuddly. RED just screams DANGER at you! Even 3P now; brown, black and GREY! GREY, what could look less threatening, John Major?
  15. Don't forget some smaller t&e had what is now considered an under size cpc. Out it and fit new.
  16. Have a look on eBay at the silly prices red & black is up for. Pretty sure there was some 6mm on there for eight quid a metre!
  17. You'll be meaning neutral not "neg".....and line not "live" if being pedantic! Not if you want to be legit and comply. BCO likely won't be impressed either. The reel could be 20 years old already. If I were you I'd sell it on eBay. You'll be able to get enough back to buy a reel in new colours and have cash left over!
  18. Tbh I'm thinking EPDM: https://www.rubber4roofs.co.uk/shop/shedcover-rubber-membrane-1-20mm/ This WAS the other stuff I think Jeremy mentioned but I need bigger/longer sheets (so maybe not his supplier). Pretty sure there was one place who would join the sheets for you: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Good-alternative-to-shed-roofing-felt-uv-resistant-olive-reinforced-pvc-/282099723947?var=&hash=item41ae742eab:m:m81vLOwJAemvS5X8MzaeYKQ
  19. The roof..... I made the roof out of some seconds, 18mm sheets. Not the best to start with I cut to size, treated with Creocote and let dry. I then put on ONE layer of sand felt.....and never got round to finishing it off as I tend to do (or is that NOT do?) Anyway.....now I've finally concreted in the last two 4"x4" legs need I to get the roof sorted. Before I was reluctant to climb on top tbh. Unfortunately as I've left it so long the sand felt got torn, ripped some more etc leaving the top bit of ply exposed to the elements. This has started to warp I've just noticed. Thinking that as the top of the felt is gone water might have (will have?) got under the lower pieces of felt. Will this hot weather dry it out? Not sure whether to rip off all the felt and redo in 2-layers of felt or maybe get some of that UV "not felt" shed covering someone was on about a while back, here or on eBuild I'm not sure (anyone remember?). I can see I might need to replace that bit of blown ply, it'll be OSB I use to repair it. Cheers
  20. I'm more worried tbh about protecting the front top edge of each step. One to mitigate wear issues as these are only made from scaffold boards and more importantly to stop the kids slipping and them coming down on a hard edge even thought there's a very nominal radius on it. I was mulling over putting say a 1/2" radius on the front edge then gluing some sort of ribbed rubber sheet to the step with impact adhesive. Something like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RIBBED-RUBBER-MATTING-3MM-THICK-ANTI-SLIP-NON-SLIP-BLACK-VARIOUS-SHEET-SIZES-/261369314008?var=&hash=item3cdad33ad8:m:mi2mUPKGLd3BO0huWDt07NA I do have some old HV mats but they're much thicker.
  21. Not a bad shout that, I could get some stainless mesh easy enough. Ideally I want something that the won't hurt their backsides on if they slip coming down the spiral stairs. I think a "NO RUNNING UP STEPS" sign is a must. Saying that the geometry of the staircase just "works" which still surprises me. It's dead easy to walk up and down. Not saying BC would be happy with it of course!
  22. Got x2 5L tins of black non slip floor paint I scored a while back thinking about it.....wonder if that would work? Interesting about the sand in SBR idea though. I remember years back being told you could add "sand" to normal floor paint. Never tried it but back then without knowing otherwise I'd have added builder's sand!
  23. I was debating some non slip angles for the leading edges but damn expensive. Was even debating asking my fabricator to knock some up in 3mm aluminium Durbar. Either that or a tin of Ronseal non slip decking paint which really does do what it says on the tin.....but is 'kin expensive!
  24. You'll be want to borrow it after then? Love the idea that bloke has of the tiered meshes though, so you can grade the stones into two sizes.
  25. Wanted to tidy up where I'd knocked out the floor for the pump motor support. Mixed up 4:1 sharp sand to cement. Used SBR at 5:1 to mix up. Not the straightest/neatest (might have been the beer's fault) but after a coat of floor paint under there etc.
