Wall fixing for dot and dab plaster on aerated block?
Onoff replied to daiking's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
Is aerated block like old breeze blocks? I used concrete screws when battening out my walls but some are spinning -

Got Aquapanel behind the wc then for the complete wet room corner. MR pb and marine ply all around the bath. MR pb behind the basin. Will all be tanked and then some. 3 years and not fallen off yet

Riding on the shoulders of giants me! I was inpired by advice from @Nickfromwales and then @PeterStarck's bathroom build. Tbh Peter's whole place screams attention to detail. I like to know that even what lies beneath is clean and tidy. Mind, I could never make a living doing it! ...but then it's not why "we" do it!

They really are special screws. They sort of drill & clear the abrasive panel material and have ribs under the head to self countersink. I tried self drill screws but they just ripped the Aquapanel to shreds around the screw hole. I wanted to go thru the Aquapanel into the blue Geberit steel frame. In the end just copious amounts of Sikaflex. The 9mm ply was ordinary Gold and self drill screwed first: Then the panel put on with the special ones: Used these: https://www.wickes.co.uk/Knauf-Aquapanel-Gold-Screws-39mm/p/224585

I showed that to SWMBO. Explained there's most likely no phone signal there so she won't be able to talk to me about "her day" for a while...

I suppose the terrain up there must breed a communal respect. Down here the things would be shat in, torched or squatted in.

Never heard of the term. Reminds me of the stone shelters out in NZ. The workers built them as they carved out the Taieri Gorge Railway and they're still there today.

Bath Surround / Boxing In, and concealed pipework

That board above the door is on with Sticks Like Sh!t as I've had a tube lying around for ages and wanted to save the Sikaflex. -

I'm my defence as well as having had a glass of wine, SWMBO was "hovering" as they do, telling me about her day and putting me off! -
Aquapanel is much stronger I'd say from the different areas I've done in each here. Don't forget it needs special Knauf screws.

Good to know. More tanking!

SWMBO wants this cupboard primarily for a SQUARE laundry basket. FFS the door will be shut on it 99.9% of the time. She's spent ages finding the correct one. Still, I'll get to indulge myself with the st/st lined, stacking bog roll store / dispenser hidden in the wall! Got to re-jig the 15mm copper that was the original mains in but will now be the feed to the Geberit wc. Will have to rethink the downlight I was having in the cupboard on a door switch. It'll drive me nuts having it off centre but I can't anyway now as be too close to the joist above. Two's going to be ott. PPPPPP! Still, makes a bloody good home for the drills. Can't see that lasting -
What's the deal with Aquapanel being a problem? That's what I've got sitting here waiting to go on. Do plan on fully tanking it though.

Cheers. You wait until I start trying to plaster, you'll feel like @Nickfromwales when I ask about plumbing!
-
Barstewards the lot of you! Don't jest, I'm new at this. I'll blindly do as I'm told like @recoveringacademic!
-
Yeah, I've slowly come round to the @Nickfromwales idea that more is better and screws are cheap. I'm doing 100mm centres now. Can always add more!

I know I could Google it but what traditionally is a bothie? Portable? On wheels? A Scots thing only? How far from the next one? I could really take to somewhere like that!

I'm still mulling grafting the front and of the mains Parkside to a Makita cordless body...

Another glass and I'm getting into this:

I'll try and do better on the bit underneath! 41mm..'coz they were CHEAP in Lidl. Got boxes of 'em.
-
Too much money on here! Down in the cheap seats...Parkside...doesn't miss a beat! Don't go mad & lubricate with this; Co-op cheapest:

Can't imagine there's anything untoward. I'm sure too that English is Mr Jayasinghe Arachchige Isuru Bhagya De Silva's first language. https://suite.endole.co.uk/insight/company/08489835-shelter-4-green-deal-limited?page=overview

If you've got an alternative shower room etc you can gut the bathroom completely and take YEARS doing it really nicely....

Oh the irony: the annoying irony
