Cheers, but for 3m x 3m it might be overkill.

Never painted a ceiling properly before I'm sure! Following on then from my plastering moisture resistant plasterboard thread. Using Dulux Diamond White and planning two coats. Do I go around the edge first with a paintbrush to "cut in" I think they call it? Any pointers appreciated!

I've never painted a ceiling "properly". I'll start another thread.
-
No but the Diamond Satin will be on me!
-
You mean Diamond Satin surely?
-
It's as filled and as flat as it's getting. Feels lovely. Now I know you said it doesn't need another mist coat but I've rubbed thru to the plaster in some places. Would another mist coat hurt if I wanted to? And if I did should I wipe down with a wet rag beforehand? Ta.

No need. Found empty 2.5L tins locally! Just need to get creative with a label.
-
Ta. Too many references to "Matt" on this tin to cover up and fool the missus. Need another plan. Where to buy an empty 2.5L tin, today.....

V.impressed with Gyproc Easi-Fill 20. Though it says to leave overnight I couldn't resist sanding one bit with some 120 grit paper in the Mirka hand sander. Seems to disappear against the white Leytex paint and leave the surface perfect. Will likely do the rest in 180 grit tonight. Then two coats of Diamond Matt or just one? (Desperate to put my Bluetooth speakers back in! )
-
The one I borrowed can only be used vertically. Is yours the deluxe model?
-
The missus said "Are you going to fill this little hole?". Pressing my nose up against it and it looked massive... Different perceptions of size I guess!
-
It's amazing what you find when you take your glasses off and stick your nose on the wall/ceiling! Tbh with the downlights off or on the little flaws are invisible and it'll never be lit from the side like I'm doing with the LED torch. I assume rub down when dry and another mist coat? I need now to get some inkjet printable, foil labels to doctor the Dulux Diamond Matt paint tin to pretend it's satin.....

These are half price in store at my Electricfix counter: https://www.screwfix.com/p/ring-extendable-led-work-light/8829g Blinding, just bought a couple for the kids. -
Minor filling? I had my son hold his LED torch I just bought him sideways to the ceiling and filled every pinprick real or not with Easifill. You can really indulge if you have ott tendencies! One larger area I wasn't happy with at the mitred corner. Boy does this stuff dry quick! V.impressed with the cheap filling knives from Screwfix.

Timber and treated timber: what goes into treatment?
Onoff replied to ToughButterCup's topic in General Construction Issues
Seem to remember one Tomorrow's World years back where they were up in Scotland following a utilities company who were going around drilling and fitting CO2 powered wood preservative "injectors" to the base of their poles. -
I remember a 2 page A4 form at the doctor's. I'd not been in that many years that when I went they gave me a Wellman check up. Page 2 was pretty much just a list of ethnicities with a box to tick. Under White were options for White, Irish, White, Polish & White, Traveller!

Surely as a Kentish Traveller you're an ethnic minority?

Timber and treated timber: what goes into treatment?
Onoff replied to ToughButterCup's topic in General Construction Issues
I've half filled a bucket with Creosote / other wood treatment like 5 Star Cuprinol then stood on end dry 100mm fence posts in the bucket. Left for a while and the stuff has "crept" a good few inches up the dry wood above the level of the liquid. I wonder if it's actually going up the natural fibres of the wood to the full depth of the timber? -
So is my Mum's Irish citizenship still valid by virtue she's now naturalised here?
-
Says here I'm automatically ALREADY an Irish citizen? https://www.dfa.ie/passports-citizenship/citizenship/born-abroad/
-
I was considering an Irish passport. I've Irish grandparents. Mum's Irish but I think she became a naturalised British citizen years back. Don't know if that fact would stand in the way? My kids haven't got passports so I was thinking for the future it Might be handy if they had Irish ones.

Timber and treated timber: what goes into treatment?

Reckon you'll have trouble pressure treating timber yourself as much of it is done this way. Bromide treatment (by brush) is pretty good (enviro friendly?) as long as it won't get wet. Can't see what's wrong with Creosote mixed 50:50 with old engine oil... -
I'm really hoping they will come up with a 2-gang dimmer switch, IP67 in a chrome finish! Going to see how the standard, 2 gang, white dimmer (QUD12W) fares when installed within easy reach of the bath!
-
Not done anything else since last night when I finished the 2nd mist coat but got in tonight (after a double shift) and took a couple of pics. Well pleased! Minor filling will have to wait until Sunday as working again today. At least I'll miss the football!
