  1. Seem to remember one Tomorrow's World years back where they were up in Scotland following a utilities company who were going around drilling and fitting CO2 powered wood preservative "injectors" to the base of their poles.
  2. I remember a 2 page A4 form at the doctor's. I'd not been in that many years that when I went they gave me a Wellman check up. Page 2 was pretty much just a list of ethnicities with a box to tick. Under White were options for White, Irish, White, Polish & White, Traveller!
  3. Surely as a Kentish Traveller you're an ethnic minority?
  4. I've half filled a bucket with Creosote / other wood treatment like 5 Star Cuprinol then stood on end dry 100mm fence posts in the bucket. Left for a while and the stuff has "crept" a good few inches up the dry wood above the level of the liquid. I wonder if it's actually going up the natural fibres of the wood to the full depth of the timber?
  5. So is my Mum's Irish citizenship still valid by virtue she's now naturalised here?
  6. Says here I'm automatically ALREADY an Irish citizen? https://www.dfa.ie/passports-citizenship/citizenship/born-abroad/
  7. I was considering an Irish passport. I've Irish grandparents. Mum's Irish but I think she became a naturalised British citizen years back. Don't know if that fact would stand in the way? My kids haven't got passports so I was thinking for the future it Might be handy if they had Irish ones.
  8. Reckon you'll have trouble pressure treating timber yourself as much of it is done this way. Bromide treatment (by brush) is pretty good (enviro friendly?) as long as it won't get wet. Can't see what's wrong with Creosote mixed 50:50 with old engine oil...
  9. I'm really hoping they will come up with a 2-gang dimmer switch, IP67 in a chrome finish! Going to see how the standard, 2 gang, white dimmer (QUD12W) fares when installed within easy reach of the bath!
  10. Not done anything else since last night when I finished the 2nd mist coat but got in tonight (after a double shift) and took a couple of pics. Well pleased! Minor filling will have to wait until Sunday as working again today. At least I'll miss the football!
  11. Being in the cheap seats here I've mulled attaching white pvc mini trunking to our white upvc windows to make insect screens / frames. I bought a roll of black alumunium mesh screen to dabble with a zero pass solar air heater. Unsurprisingly I've not started it! https://www.manomano.co.uk/mosquito-insect-screen-2352?
  12. As are rubble / aggregate bags!
  13. I must admit when I did my double garage floor I mixed together various tins of various makes of grey, some bought, some scrounged in an old 25L fermenting bin and stuck it on with an old broom head. I'll never match it! Somewhat messed up the look when a 5L tin of red oxide fell over unbeknown to me! However by the time I got around to finding/sorting it it was dry and peeled off in a sheet.
  14. How about CLEAR & non slip? https://www.resincoat.co.uk/en/high-build-epoxy/133-resincoat-anti-slip-floor-paint.html?
  15. At that money is it worth ditching an oil boiler even in a draughty old house?
  16. Might get some freebies! http://www.abacusmg.co.uk
  17. This is what's going to happen... A quick Avery label on the pc saying "SATIN" gets stuck over where it says MATT. Then a bit of silver tape where it says "SCRUBBABLE MATT FINISH"...
  18. I DON'T want it shiny! Her first comment was she wanted to gloss the ceiling ffs. She reckons matt looks too dull....??? No shit! I get the feeling that as it looks new for longer, the Dulux Diamond Matt recommended here wilI look really good. Maybe it's her pikey genes coming through and the attraction to shiny things? Another gem on the horizon, she didn't want a lit mirror. Now realises you'll be in your own shadow at the sink! :) She tried turning it saying "I thought WE didn't want a lit mirror as they're expensive?". With the money spent so far it'll hardly break the bank! "No dear, you wanted a plain flat mirror hence my buying the f***ing demister pad to go on the back!" Selective memory the fairer sex! It's not like the cooking or the other is going to get any better here after 26 years so I reckon Diamond and be damned! Worst case she doesn't speak to me for a week. Best case two weeks / a month!
  19. Once again I have to bow to the collective wisdom on here! Never done a mist coat before so a few eye openers. First, Leyland Trade Super Leytex High Opacity Matt Emulsion is GREAT! I applied it thinned with 20% water and used a short pile radiator roller. Boy does it dry quick! The plaster just sucks it in just as said here that it would. I found I needed to get it on real quick or thick streaks would dry that were hard to roller flat. Generally though it looks magic imo, almost like a finish coat. The roller application has shown some low spots. What I'm thinking is to do a second mist coat as the paint has clear filler like qualities. I reckon if I did I'd lose a few more of these minor lows and just have the odd deeper low to fill. Any againsts if I do so? Also should the second mist coat be thinned again? Lastly SWMBO (who's the painter in the house generally and favours Crown paint) informs me tonight she wants a satin finish on the ceiling as matt is too dull! Any suggestions, can't seem to find a Dulux Diamond Satin White. Cheers
  20. You're a gent. I'll just finish dinner and I'll get on it! Going to take a while with these Lidl radiator rollers mind!
  21. Cheers, done a 20% water / 80% paint mix. A litre to start off with and see how I go. Next question; brush, paint pad, fluffy or foam roller?
  22. I've started just about everything on the house - new bathroom, kitchen, garden landscaping, large decking area, fencing, decorating etc. Welcome btw!
  23. So you reckon mist coat before any filler? Using the Leyland Leytex Matt. The EasiFiller will go over the top of the paint OK?
  24. If the demo software of WOODexpress is still available then this might interest you. Great to have a play with. The demo one is limited on span and you can't print from memory... http://www.runet-software.com/WOODexpress.htm
