  1. SWMBO decreed that "we" would "ruin" oak veneered doors. So off to Wickes for the cheapest of the cheap. Bloody cheek, £32 for a 610mm door.... £22 for a 762mm one! Still need to tweak the frame on the sapele door. No reason not to make a nice job on the hinges. Might tile this bit tomorrow! That'll just leave around the bath to do.
  2. If you've a south facing elevation I'd be considering a large, home made, solar hot air heater. Be warned there is a shed load of info on this US forum. The layout takes a bit of getting used to: https://simplysolar.supporttopics.com/?forum=268123
  3. PTFE strip here between galv steel and aluminium. Nylon washers. Sometimes with PTFE tape around the bolt or nylon top hat washers.
  4. Don't forget you can get different duties/weights of Unistrut for a given overall size.
  5. Unistrut as said previous then copy these clamps? https://www.m.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?isRefine=true&sid=gatwick05
  6. @Bitpipe's IBC thread:
  7. I'm not saying to use this at all but was interested to see there is asbestos roof renovation paint available. https://www.kingfisheruk.com/asbestos-roof-coating-item-55arcb Surely though the existing roof would need cleaning first and that process would disturb fibres etc? Edit: There is a guide: asbestoshowto.pdf
  8. Can't be ar$ed to take it further. Let's face it the people behind the counter are just there for the job not because they're au fait with trades like in the days of the old hardware stores, specialist plumbing shops etc. Same goes with their customer relations people.
  9. I used corrugated bitumen sheets from Wickes. Biggest waste of time and money EVER! I'd even put in extra roof joists to halve the span. It all just sagged like washing up bowls between the joists. I tried inserting extra ali tubes to help but it was just crap. Ruined the car stored in there. Stable where I am now has an asbestos roof that leaks. I guess over many years it just breaks down? I'd go EPDM as it's quick and easy. Fibreglass maybe if you fancy the challenge. Lets face it they are what they are these old garages and draughty isn't a bad thing as it can keep things dry.
  10. My email: "Dear Screwfix, I needed today urgently a new bar shower valve and a friend pointed me to the one below. Checking stock at Sevenoaks I saw you had one in and ordered it for collection. At the counter the assistant went and got my order. I noticed the box was open and queried this to be told it was probably just where somebody had asked for a look at it in store. As I was checking the box there were other customers so I made a cursory check that the parts were all there, (one small fittings pack was opened and the parts loose), signed for it and left the store. Upon arrival at home and unpacking it it POURED water out, in fact inside the bubble wrap was soaking wet. Clearly this unit has been previously fitted and then returned to store. Aside from that the last customer was clearly a bit of an animal and there are tool marks on the chromed nuts. I am really not impressed. Aside from the damage you should not be returning water filled components to stock. Who knows what bugs it might harbour or how long it's been in there! However...without a working shower I've been forced to fit this as I have two teenagers in the house and two of their friends to stay. I've a slight weep on one fitting but I'll re look at that tomorrow as it's likely me. I haven't written this email lightly, am a long term customer and have never complained before but this is just to express my overall dissatisfaction with Screwfix today. Yours sincerely" Their response: "Thank you for your email regarding the above order. I am sorry to learn of the issues you have incurred with the Swirl Thermostatic shower. Whilst I appreciate your comments, we would not recommend fitting this and we would be happy to offer a replacement or a refund on the product. Please can you advise what it is you are seeking. Kind Regards" Not really looking for anything tbh just as I say expressing my dissatisfaction.
  11. If I go for oak veneered then they seem to be coming out at about 27kg weight wise. Are two 76 x 51 hinges enough or should I be going for 3? Slightly off track and a relative has just been visiting family in the ROI. Sad lad that he is he commented that even on the cheaper, mass produced housing stock, their doors seem to be nearer 50mm thick rather than the 34mm like the oak veneer ones he and I are looking at in TP/Selco etc.
  12. Don't forget that when you and your mate aren't there it'd stil be nice to catch nosey neighbours, vandals, council snoopers and thieving pikeys.
  13. Just go with what others on here do / did. Do look at the link by @recoveringacademic to the manufacturer's site. Loads of how to video.
  14. Checking the spec in @newhome 's link and you can set it to take a still from every1s to 24hrs. In ASAP mode 270,000 frames in 2.2 days. On the 30 minute mode 3,700 frames in 78 says. A good few on here have used them mounted on a vantage point.
  15. Probably had to keep dropping the handset to the tray to get it to work...
  16. The loose bits and pieces. Just looked at the main body through the bubble wrap bag.
  17. So the tool marks on the chromed nuts and the fact that one of the small packages is opened is normal too? (I could have still had a bath! ) Snotty email sent!
  18. "New" one all in and working. Still have to drop the handset to get the pump to kick in but hey ho. Cheers all.
  19. C***TS! Box was open. Said so and had a quick check everything was there. Lad said it would just have been where someone wanted a look. Opened at home and it's pi$$ed out water! Well it's going in in a minute with a rocket up the ar$e email to Screwfix.
  20. Point taken!
  21. Even cheaper: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Chrome-Thermostatic-Bar-Mixer-Shower-Valve-Round-Tap-Bottom-Outlet-Shower-Hot-UK/132868219244?
  22. It's an extra £30!!!
  23. Probably grab one of these cheapies: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Modern-Thermostatic-Exposed-Bar-Shower-Mixer-Valve-Tap-Chrome-Bottom-1-2-Outlet/252711103171?
  24. Yes it sometimes works fine other than having to drop the handset to the tray to get the pump to kick in. Nothing changed when I did the pipework for downstairs. Assuming all these bar mixers are similar than should the hot or cold come in at the larger cartridge end which I assume is the thermostatic end? Cheers
  25. Sorry. It wasn't regulating temperature which was why I started this. Apologies if not clear. The height thing is a given since day one. Just fished the mixer bits out of the descaler and reassembled. Testing it now and the point where the hot comes in is proper hot. The mixer is regulating temperature seemingly but the outlet is only getting lukewarm.
