  1. I imagine @scottishjohn coming from the auto industry has some horror stories ref crimps getting wet and failing! When I do an "outside" crimp I dip my wire in silicon grease before crimping. mating crimps get the same treatment. As the Welsh Wizard once said "Not lost a patient yet!". Even convinced my motorbike mad mate into doing it.
  2. Copyright, Design and Patent Acts 1988? Presumably by quoting that from the regs I've broken it?
  3. Not going to argue with you. I can point to the exact reg that says this can be done. Anyway the "regs" are not statutory (but can be used as a defence in law). Anyone who said the "good jointed cable" was illegal was likely talking out of their arse and on the fiddle. Disagree entirely ref the first place any problem is going to happen is a well made joint. It won't be a properly done crimp it'll be a screw terminal.
  4. Please point me at where it says that in the regs...I've a copy in front of me. Try 526.3 (iv) that this is acceptable.
  5. No problems with what I've shown plastering it straight in a wall tbh. Hence the extra heat shrink. This is a maintenance free join too unlike a jb with screws. Wagos are deemed maintenance free btw. And yes I like heat shrink crimps too! This was done to crimp old T&E with the stranded earth to new: OTT...I'll take it! Edit: I've got so much old colour heat shrink, I'm using it up! Always put a sticker on the cu saying the install is wired in new and old colour schemes.
  6. Philistine! ? This is how I roll. ...and why I'll never have money!
  7. Let me know if you want a bit of cable tape posted. Should be a cheap job with your TLC discount...
  8. No need for an rcd socket. It's just a spur off the main circuit that's already got rcd protection. TLC do a BG one with a neon in too if you fancy that. If you go bottom entry with the cable make sure to use a proper gland and secure the cable as well as protecting from anything "chewey". Don't know the layout but you could do in pvc 20mm conduit. Some might insist on nom 300mm separation. Let's face it water, gas & leccy have been known to use the same duct when it suits! How deep is the poo pipe? Ideally put anything carrying "wet" services under anything electrical. Cable ideally at about 18" down with a length of tape just under the "grass" in case anyone goes there with a digger.
  9. So it's properly fused maybe? Edit: My bad, you linked a fused one.
  10. Got to decide how to finish this reveal off and not see the plasterboard edge. White upvc trim maybe and leave projecting by 3mm so the plaster comes up level?

  12. Gobsmacked to see Costco flogging JCB cordless sets! https://www.costco.co.uk/Home-Improvement/Power-Tools/Cordless-Tools/c/cos_8.1.1 I thought they only sold top brands?
  13. I've got a tool similar to what we used at college to strip the outer sheath off of T&E. Bought it, decided not for me and never used since. Knife for me to neatly score around then slit up the centre peel back. For cores I've a Stripmaster esque one but for the odd bit I've a crappy old Wickes thing bought over 30 years ago with an added bolt that sticks out by 20mm. For critical stuff and especially the rock hard shellaced stuff at work a pair of adjustable CK ones.
  14. Couldn't find my part roll of green vcl so pressed a 1200mm long, clear refuse sack into use: Really can't fault this Parkside drywall gun: Can't decide on boarding this back bit...thinking down to and up as far as the green arrows and have a full width removable panel. Or do I overboard the narrow bit on the left too and have a smaller panel? This is all going to be plastered.
  15. B@ll@cks! SWMBO has just decreed that she wants to use the 51 leftover grey tiles in the yet to be started upstairs ensuite shower. Nom 1200x800. Said I, "But there's not enough love!" Apparently we're going to use tbe leftover mosaics to make it work. Looks like I'll be plastering inside this cupboard then.
  16. Another gadget for @pocster to buy! https://www.zdnet.com/article/walabot-diy-plus-wants-to-be-the-ultimate-stud-finder-for-your-home-projects/
  17. Some foil tape here and there. Probably overkill insulating these internal walls but SWMBO has commented more than once how quiet the new bathroom is! I need to make a removable / hinged panel feature to access the valve and get my hand in to the right to access the Geberit connections. Sod's Law the panel edges won't fall on grout lines! Maybe do a full width, removable ply panel 3 tiles high and just screw in place? Still fancy something hinged...
  18. @pocster, sorry if being dense, why the OSB? Thought you would just screw pb on?
  19. As a DIYer would you go for this again in preference to timber studs? Might be an option for me when I do the lounge / diner knock through. Was going to go timber but seeing this makes me think otherwise. What's the cost like vs timber?
  20. You might get on better using a proper make blue drill instead of a yellow one...
  21. Hot air gun & paint scraper.
  22. If you could get them up them your local "proper" timber yard would likely do it for a drink as long as there's no nails in the blocks. Whereabouts are you?
  23. Not for long I'll bet. Why encourage self builders to build? The more who do it to a high standard, the more revenue lost as they're more economic (for the householder) to run.
