One for @scottishjohn maybe..... Filling up the hot tub at the weekend and I thought I'd try and jury rig my one remaining, intact solar thermal panel to thermosyphon from the hot tub and back in. A failure all in all. I think I need the "intake" lower than the out pipe so the orientation of the panels is wrong with both in & out at the top. A small solar powered pump might have worked. I even tried priming the panels with water from the hose to fill them (yes I know they're meant to be filled with glycol not water). Here's what I don't get... Filled the panel with water from the hose and stuck one end of another short hose connected to the panel top right, in the hot tub hoping it would thermosyphon, sucking water up from the tub and pushing it out hot the other side. Nothing happened. If I took the hose out of the tub and raised it above the top of the panel then "gravity" appeared to push the water through and it came out steaming on the top left. As an aside the panel elevation wasn't optimum and half the panel was shaded by next door's tall conifers! 1) Are these panels biased to a particular flow direction? As in must they be connected so flow is right to left? 2) Replacement tubes? I think Navitron do them. How easy are they to fit? Cheers

We have had, in the past, lots of mason and leafcutter bees. Before we permanently positioned the various little wooden boxes for them, over 2 successive years they faced SW, First, we put them on a patio table and before we could fix them they were colonised. The next year taken off the table and placed on a concrete step again the bees quickly moved in. Last year I moved them high up under the eaves, maybe 8' off the ground, facing SE. Pretty much no takers! I wonder if the boxes are too high or not warm enough now? My attempt at making one. I was thinking maybe nobody has moved in as it's treated wood but more thinking its positioning:

No, I remembered after I posted it's Abacus (I think). Look very similar down to the Geberit blue of the frame. So much so I think Geberit tried to go legal on them. The flush mechanisms look near interchangeable. Half recall the quality isn't so good.

Veering off thread a bit but can anyone remember the make of wall frame that is a near clone of the Geberit kit? It has been discussed on here before.

I'm wondering out loud here as to whether it would be easier for you to introduce a diy take off and stick with the 8cm frame.....

My stud walls were built first and attach in essence only to the ceiling and walls. Floor was poured after the stud walls were done. When I was playing with how the frame was going to go in I sat it on the floating sole plate of the stud wall. I then though notched out the sole plate and screwed to the concrete floor. I didn't have UFH close to the edge though: I was lucky depth wise as where my frame went was an old doorway I blocked up (with 9" blocks). The depth is so great I resin anchored studs into the back wall and used hex extenders: Just found this old pic looking through where the new bathroom door is through where the old doorway was into the cloak in the hall: Glad to say its changed a bit!

Btw, I'm pretty certain now my diy extract system, following Jeremy's lead is working. Doesn't maybe clear the sometimes explosive, initial "release of gas" but all good thereafter. The planned inline pc fan should provide an extra boost (poost? ? ).

A bit here:

Length of 2" deep timber, (same width as vertical battens) glued to the floor maybe, pushing against existing stud wall. Geberit frame feet screwed into that? @Nickfromwales.....help! Pretty sure some on here have used the odour extract facility...

You could add battens to your wall studs to deepen them a bit?

See the flush pipe comes up to the cistern, it branches off to the right at an angle. Until you flush the vertical pipe is empty to the pan so can suck up any nasty niffs. That angled pipe links to your extract: Whereas the 8cm one lacks the angled take off pipe:
