But! All my wiring is behind plasterboard, I’m not bothered if it sags during a fire! The house would be foobared anyway.

In my heating and hot water design I have a Sunamp and solar PV for the hot water and an air source heat pump (ASHP) and associated unvented cylinder, as a hot water pre-heat and for the underfloor heating/cooling! I'm now at that point where I need to order the kit and get it installed, then electrician asked the question "why spend money on an ASHP and cylinder, when you could buy another Sunamp cheaper?". What is the latest thinking?

As the days get shorter I need to install temporary igniting inside my new build. I have a halogen flood light, what do others use?

How about using recycled guttering to hold the cables?

Sorry I don’t have any Nudura blocks, I do have some Amvic blocks and corners left (as a result of a last minute design change!)

Such as?

You ocassionally see them being auctioned off by the large hire companies on Bidspotter.co.uk

Daz, sounds like a great project. I Wouldn’t worry about a lack of experience, many of us here started out without too much of it. So feel free to ask questions, post photos and generally get involved. Just one small point, I found that ASHP was a lot cheaper and simpler to install than a GSHP.

PLASTER BOARD Im about to start first fix, then plaster boarding. I need around 940m2 of plaster board, has anyone spotted any bulk deals? -
Here’s my site loo, it’s made of recycled timber, loo and sink. It’s connected to the septic tank. It regularly gets praised by its users as one of the best they’ve used.

Is this the best deal around? The blurb says Panasonic compressor, the unit is manufactured by a top world class manufacturer, NOT Panasonic. So, who manufactured the unit?

Has anyone viewed any good YouTube videos (or supplier videos) on lighting design? It may help me get my head round the subject! -

Has anyone used a lighting designer? We have cathedral ceilings in four rooms and we’re struggling to understand how to light the space. -
The problem, as I saw it, was that the residential units were one up from a caravan!
-
I looked one of these kit homes and having talked to someone working on the industry, it became clear that the residential kit homes are often built on the same factory as those log cabins you see being built as lodge developments on holiday caravan sites. That rather put me off them!

Just about to start the first fix electrics

Thanks for all the great comments, lots to think about. I’m in the lucky position that I’ve got a tame electrician who will let me do most of the laborious cable pulling and he’ll do the technical bits. Anyone got any input around the wiring/control of the Sunamp and Solar panels/inverter? -
The electrician is about to start the first fix electrics. Has anyone got any suggestions? Must do, don’t do, best brands of equipment, best places to purchase electrical gear, lighting, do’s and donuts, network cabling, TV aerial, do I even need one given we are around 40miles from the transmitter.

The piece he picked up was a fully expanded of cut. Having looked at what was installed yesterday it’s nicely expanded and was sized for the 10mm gap. I can’t see it getting wet given that it’s in a small recess, set back from the face f the window. As I’ve never used the product before I thought I’d ask a few questions.
-
He’s also saying he thought it went hard once installed? Having never used the stuff before, Im not sure!

The windows are in and the Compriband is being fitted. A piece of Compriband offcut was left outside all weekend in the pouring rain. The window fitter picked it up and commented that it was wet, he thought Compriband was waterproof. Is it? Confused!

Stairs - Online resources
Triassic replied to Triassic's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
Drawing the stairs out, I have a 170mm rise and a 315mm going (tread), at an angle is 30 degrees. We've decided that a single metal spine could be too bulky, so we're now looking at something like this... Can anyone suggest a supplier? -
I'm starting to look at stairs for my new build, I need three sets, each with a half landing. Having measured the stairwell I find it larger than necessary, given I need to comply with Building Regs (rise and go). This means that for in every case I'll have to extend the landings to meet up with the top of the stairs. (You'd have thought the architect would have considered the staircases when doing the design! But lets not get lost down that rabbit hole !!). Can anyone recommend any online staircase design calculator / visualization software I could input my dimensions, as a starter for ten! At some point I then need to get someone to fabricate the steel work needed, I'm thinking of something like this.......
