  1. Thanks, did you also get the s or did you get the sx. As far as I can see the main benefit of the sx is an app.
  2. Anyone have any experience of this unit. I have a floor space of around 210m2 think I will need between 300-400 m3/h Intrested in the Vent-Axia Sentinel Kinetic Advance S as it has a smaller form factor but I am worried it will be loud as the air has to move within a smaller area (I think it has smaller filters than a comparable unit etc)
  3. https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/household-appliances/laundry/tumble-dryers/sharp-kd-hhh8s7gw2-en-8-kg-heat-pump-tumble-dryer-white-10194164-pdt.html I bought this from currys, the cheapest heat pump tumble dryer at the time and its been great. I monitored the energy usage and it is very close to the spec which is 1kwh for a half load and 2 kWh for full load. Like others have said a good chunk of that energy will stay in the house as latent heat.
  4. Thinking about building ICF walls on insulated raft. Has anyone done this? Anything to worry about in terms of failure of the foam under the slab, seems like a lot of weight pushing down. Possible worries would be, creep of the foam over time, rodent or chemical attack.
  5. How did you get on with polar wall I am considering it for my build. Did you do an insulated raft foundation as well?
  6. Hi there, I have planning for a new house in central Scotland. It will be a farmhouse so subject to a restriction that only I can live there. I have decided I would like to move it back 10m or so away from power lines that run on front of the house. This will help keep a better distance away from the power lines and allow trees to be planted without damaging the house or the lines in the future. There are no other houses within 1 mile and only one of my sheds about 50m away I have asked the planning department if this will be acceptable as a change or will I need full planning again. They have said I will need full planning, no explanation given. The new position is still within the red boundary and not too close to the boundary to cause any issues with regulations. I was under the impression that moving a house within the red boundary was fair game in Scotland? Does anyone know the general rules for moving the house within the red boundary? Might have to bite the bullet and make a full new application. Issues would be architects/planning fees and time, last application took 8 months to go through due to covid
  7. Interestingly you can now buy units that use r290 which is propane. Has a gwp of 3, much less than the usual gases which are usually around 1000
  8. Anyone have any reasons for not looking at https://www.polarwall.co.uk They use better insulation and they are manufactured in the UK. I was going to use nudura but I quite like the look of their system, nobody seems to talk about them much on the forum just wondering if I am missing an obvious flaw in their system.
  9. We are in the biggest recession ever recorded. I think it will depend on how the government withdraw support
  10. Would like to think it will come back down some way in price once the vaccine is deployed. You could even argue factories should have priority after the top priority groups have been vaccinated. Would help keep supply consistent. Currently sitting on savings of 150k watching it get eroded by quite extreme price inflation.
  11. I noticed you mention osb tg4 boards. I purchased about five pallet loads in 2016 for about £6. In 2017 I bought some more at £7. Last year I went back for another batch the price had rockets to £9 that was around October. Just had another quote for £11 this time just last week. All prices plus vat. The biggest rises are from Covid. It’s a crap time to be building or buying a house right now.
  12. Makes sense. So has the thinking changed as everything I read of merit when it comes to heat pumps say you need to size as close as possible to your load to prevent short cycling. They say it’s this cycling that really hits performance?
  13. Is it not the opposite, ie you can get a better cop with a slightly undersized heat pump not oversized?
  14. Propane works well at higher temps but the arotherm plus still performs best at the lowest temp possible. If you go above 45 for space heating you still take a massive hit to cop values
  15. Have you had a quote for the arotherm? I think the ASHP will only heat the water to 55 or so then a heating coil will do the rest.
  16. My quote was from tkmurray. They seemed very helpful and efficient
  17. Many thanks, just got a rough quote from another company for a 8.5kw ecodan of 11.5k but that included rads and installation of central heating pipe work. Much better price I think
  18. Can I ask which company you got that quote from as ecodan is my preferred system
  19. I just got a quote in for 12.5k including vat for a 7kw arotherm plus. It did include 20m of insulated pipe which is not usual as we are siting the pump away from the house. For 12.5k I need to make the concrete pad, dig track for underground pipe, install/supply power cable/breakers. I also need to buy and install radiators. So I think your price is pretty good, or mine is just crap. i have a feeling the installers are just adding thousands to the price as they are so busy with these new grants Does your quote included a hot water tank and upgraded radiators if needed?
  20. I don’t think the grant is available on a new build. You would get the vat back though. I applied for the cash back loan. I got a quote for a 6 kw heat pump, about 12500. That leaves me 5000 to find myself, which is about 1000 less than what I would pay for just the boiler and installation parts. It’s financially worth it but I think the installer is making off with the majority of the grant as there appears to be about 5-6k of profit in a two or three day job.
  21. another good resource from the same guy is this video.
  22. https://trystanlea.org.uk the above is a nice blog from a chap who installed a heat pump in a less than ideal house using just normal screw fix double panel rads. He is managing a cop of 4 and uses low flow temps. you don’t need underfloor. You can use a larger size of a normal double panel rad. You can also use fan coil rads which are much smaller and can releases a lot more heat. Fan coils are rads with a very small fan built inside to increase heat transfer. Your house sounds ideal for heat pump. However it might not save money vs mains gas especially if you need to change a lot of radiators.
  23. I ordered a load of 2x6 Baltic framing timber a couple of months ago and the price was cheaper than it was two years ago. However the osb prices have increased a lot. From roughly £6 for a 8 x 2 osb 3 tg4 roofing sheet to almost £10. This is purely down to lack of supply, my guess is if things settle down in 6 months time or so, prices will drop back down. I’m looking to start my build in 6 months to a year, not a very relaxing time to be committing to building and it’s got my considering buying a house instead.
  24. Did you install an arotherm plus? I have a quote for a 7kw system. I was surprised by the cost of installation at roughly 6k for maybe two days work. Feels like RHI is creating a lot of fluff in prices. Anyway there is not a lot of info on these new units in forums or YouTube yet. How do you find yours? Is it quite when running? The scop looks good for these units, have you found it efficient? Thanks
