  1. A great idea to create a specific thread for knowledge, I remember noise in conjunction with wind turbines being an issue of being hardly measurable but creating nuisance through pressure waves.
  2. So are you saying an MCS person would do a survey of the area and give a yes or no on whether it’s acceptable or not?
  3. That contradicts itself, it’s either independent of surroundings or not!, if it takes into account the surroundings it can only be done after it’s installed which makes it impossible to find out if it meets regs or not before installation surely. 🤷‍♂️
  4. Which is why loft dormers on the front of a house requires planning permission but not on other elevations.
  5. When I installed my ASHP the documentation stated noise levels at several distances 🤷‍♂️(like most drill/tools etc do )
  6. Was this not brought up when you bought the house? It should have, a family member bought a holiday home with similar, 3rd bedroom in loft with no door, it was agreed it was a 2 bed with loft storage and a drop in price. Also I bet it does not have a “method of escape window”.
  7. This copied from another thread re planning portal….equivalent standards ? Development is permitted only if the air source heat pump installation complies with the Microgeneration Certification Scheme Planning Standards (MCS 020) or equivalent standards. Read more about the scheme.
  8. Nah, I stay in the Forest (or use the bike if I have to go into town).
  9. As I said above not all banks will give a mortgage but my buyer did with a retro warranty.
  10. However, the objection has to be relevant (excess noise levels measured) and how will a neighbour know the heat pump is being used for cooling? My heat pump was timed to heat DHW in the warmest part of the day. Also I have a neighbour now that has an oil boiler that is way noisier than my heat pump was.
  11. Funnily enough I can plaster ok but crap at rendering, no idea why. (Get someone in)
  12. I have always said (living in Bristol with bus lanes ) that congestion is good, it drives people onto public transport if it gets you there quicker and cheaper.
  13. Well I didnt have one as never intended to sell within 10 years but life got in the way and had to sell and I got a retrospective warranty fir cheaper than a build warranty 🤷‍♂️ but not all mortgage companies accept them.
  14. I don’t doubt it, my diesel Merc is bound to be cleaner than my 1968 triumph 2 litre. (Neither of which I can drive in bristols clean air zone without paying £9 a time, but I can ride my motorbike because the cameras face the front of the vehicles and motorbikes only have rear number plates 👀).
  15. I asked about this years ago when considering switching my MVHR off when not required (summer, doors and windows open) it already controlled the boost.
  16. And replaced with a mondeo ! 🤷‍♂️(diesel).
  17. Another advantage of hiring a main contractor is that he is responsible for health and safety etc for the site. Mind you I worked full time with them on site doing my work (and loved every minute if it).
  18. Ah, I didn’t know that ( i never got around to fitting PV to my build before I lost it 😣) thanks 👍
  19. No, he As people he had worked well with before and I decided to employ them. Mine was Nothing like Redrow. A small firm With a good local history of pleased customers
  20. Surely if the voltage is the same and the current limit is the same more panels would not give a rise? only asking because I don’t know but want to.
  21. Great explanation but I thought the only stipulation was the 16 amps, I have not seen anything where timing has been mentioned. I know the local network must be able to cope with the predicted input which is why some are charged for upgrading their local transformer. Again my point is if I were limited to 16 amps (at any time) having more panels would still give the network the max 16 amps controlled by my inverter (or am I bring thick 🤷‍♂️)
  22. Get multiple quotes for the work.
  23. Well mine didn’t, his two guys worked on mine for a year and he introduced me to the electrician, window and door makers, painter and sparky. I fitted windows, most of the carpentry, tiling, plumbing etc Go with your gut feeling (and review) I did and no regrets.
  24. I had one main contractor (who was brilliant) and the advantage I believe is there is no passing the buck, also contractors usually know good other trades for gas, windows etc (mine did, if they were crap he would not use them )
  25. Let’s just say a condition the council put on giving me a mortgage was they fumigated it and left it for two weeks before I was allowed to move in and I lived in a tent for the first two months as dead bugs were falling out of the cracks in the ceiling .🙄
