  1. I agree with @BotusBuild you can’t spend what you can’t borrow/have. Savings can be made on things like kitchens, bathrooms and lighting etc which can be replaced later on with better if funds allow. The structure/size will be fixed (and well insulated if you follow this forum,s mantra, which will save you future fuel costs forever). Good luck and keep us posted.

Welcome, post up questions and we will endeavour to help.
  3. I used to use plaster beading nailed to the ends of the battens to act as “rebar“ in the mortar and stop it cracking and falling out, never had a call back.
  4. The Americans tend to not skim, just “joint” and “nail” cover, I have done this in an office environment (huge wall) but I prefer a proper plaster skim (and wet, not D@D) but I am old school. 🥸
  5. It’s the attention to detail that makes a job “proper”.
  6. The trouble is if you squeeze all the air from a bath etc you diminish it’s insulation thin PIR would be better.
  7. That is not true, you need either ceiling joists or a ridge beam to stop wall spread.
  8. This makes me think about the way the French work, (correct me if wrong) any trade, plumbers, electricians etc have to be qualified and accountable but they can not pay/reclaim the VAT therefore making it almost not worthwhile getting “cowboys” in. (Or doing DIY !).
  9. It’s no wonder builders get a bad name when they can’t follow drawings 🤷‍♂️. I would make him rip it out and start again (I hope you have not paid yet? )
  10. I built my own gates and bought motor, track, remotes etc from EBay, plenty out there. If you want auto you will need an electric supply but you could have manual ones. The only problem you may have is planners usually want gates set back from the road so you don’t block the road whilst opening the gates, but electric ones would preclude this I recon.
  11. I think it’s a crap design like said above, yes a bar across to the other wall will sort it, and is normal for a good design IMO.
  12. if you want a street gate it will have to be a slider as you will not be allowed a gate opening onto the pavement/road. I have just built one using kit available on the internet.
  13. If I remember correctly the neighbours objection was against losing on street parking which has been settled, any other change will not effect that point.
  14. Ooh that looks good, more “reality” than “grand” 👍
  15. Mud huts are adobe but this looks more like straw covered in rendered metal mesh?
  16. You ARE jokin !!!! ( I just don’t act my age 🤷‍♂️)
  17. @SteamyTea is your man on fibreglass, he will be along shortly (it looks like damp got in during the cure when it was laid).)
  18. I am glad I am in the Forest and not Cornwall now the summer is coming , sooo much quieter up here.
  19. That is mad, what’s the point?
  20. I would question that, if I returned home to park on my drive I should be able to have access surely?
  21. Having recently had to deal with a leak for my sons “hidden” cistern, it’s best to sort easy access now and not wait till water is flowing everywhere 🤷‍♂️
  22. Sorry to say this but. “I’m staying at a friend’s, ”. It’s not yours🤷‍♂️, however like others I believe removing the cill will give better access, perhaps cut all silicone surrounding it to see if it will move,
  23. I wouldn’t, I have had to deal with pikeys in the past, do as the police advise, if the contractors shift it thats on their head not yours.
