“At its simplest level, there is nothing to stop one member of the forum offering to loan money, on whatever terms they happen to agree, to another member. “ this is what this forum is, a talking place to exchange ideas and get to know people. If those people want to help each other it’s up to them. I have gained soooooo much knowledge from all you guys over the last few years and thank you one and all. -
Well I have lived in a caravan for about 10months and grew to hate it ( I should have put a wbs in it like pro Dave). My build is block/brick with 200mm insulation and 300mm in the warm roof. Double glazing which is within a knats whisker of triple glazing but great airtightness ?(I hope), we have fitted a wood burner, room sealed, and latest design for efficiency, yes we may get too warm at times but I don’t mind that for the aesthetics . We are very rural and won’t rely on the stove for heat 24/7 but for cosy evenings. I hate a living room without a focal point.

Thanks Nick, I was told this “ new” flooring stuff didn’t produce the “scum” that the old stuff did and it’s true, just the very slight undulation and bubbles produced during its laying. I am using a floor scraper and is doing a great job. The odd pipe clip has floated to the surface which I need to sand off. The jury is still out re luxury vinyl vs real wood/tiles tho I am impressed with Amtico (made in England not Asia like Karndean so I am told).
-
+1 on complicated controls, I have used manual ones and hid them in a wardrobe ?.
-
I disagree, you are not allowed to remove stuff from any skip ( unless it’s yours);however, I would have had it and good for you.?
-
Right, I was able to walk on my new floor this morning and on very close inspection it has a slight ripple to it, one mm max, my worry is Kardean ( thin) might not hide this, someone above said the floor must be very flat!. Am I paranoid about hollow sounding floors and will floating floors conduct heat sufficiently. Just got got on my hands and knees and found I can scrape the floor with a straight edge and flatten the very slight undulation. Guess what I am doing all day ?.

Is it like sponsoring an animal? Do I get regular updates and a cuddly toy ?. seriously though, I would rather lend to a hard working couple than un trust worthy banks.

Exactly. As I think more than one person thinks like I do that this is more than just a forum. I have met only two people on this forum but consider many of you as friends ( do I need a psychiatrist ?).
-
I like this a lot. Count me in.
-
I must admit to hating floating floors, I have come across so many that sound hollow. Also with UFH I wanted to bond the floor so heat transference is maximised, or am I wrong ?.
-
Ha, didn’t think of a doormat. I understand that part M states a 15mm threshold maximum. Our Karnean ( for our bathrooms) is only 2 mm plus glue. The floor is 30mm lower than threshold so we are 27 mm ish high which is 12mm too much. Also our internal door linings were based on the same wood flooring, when the screed is dry enough ( tomorrow) I will measure exactly what we have/ can get away with.
-
Thanks for all your input, we might have a problem though, the liquid screed on the ground floor was laid yesterday and as we told ( a long time ago) the builder we were having engineered timber flooring that is what he measured for and the part m front door may not allow us to have less flooring thickness ?. I went to a flooring show room yesterday and was bowled over by an amigo herringbone sample, although it was £60 PSM. ?. My main problem is that I told my wife when we started this build that I wanted proper wood flooring, not some plastic imitation, oops, she is yet to be convinced.

I’m with the majority, yes I know, I hate borrowing myself but be practical, the interest rate is very low. If you finish the house, move in, then you can work full time if necessary to make ends meet. After lots of I’ll health myself, death of my wife, problems with kids I believe quality of life and happiness are the main things to wish for. Your quality of life will be far better in your house than suffering having to live in a caravan ( I know I have done it !!!). I am very lucky in that I am retired with a pot to complete my dream home but it nearly fell through with the sale of my last house. I am up for crowd funding as well. How much do you estimate you need to complete and move in?
-
So sorry to hear of your situation, chin up, my house took over a year to sell but sold quickly out of the blue.

Hi, I have just installed two bi fold doors from kitchen and lounge but they open into a large conservatory ( un heated) across the back of our new build, well they will next year when I get time to build the conservatory ?. I had mine made from oak and specified double compression seals not brushes as they quickly start leaking from my reading. The conservatory will also have two sets of double doors opening to the garden so should give us lots of flexibility on the use of the space. Ours is a cottage type of construction but everyone thinks ours is in keeping with the whole build.

We are having a no shoes policy!
-
Can this be glued down as I hate floating floors and I want to bond the flooring to ensure heat is transferred.
-
Thanks guys, mine will be going onto liquid screed covering the UFH and I have been told it will be dead flat.

I used a wooden structure hanging from the roof but unit actually mounted on rubber mounts bought from ebay. Note the home made manifold / silencer on top made from ply and accoustic foam. My unit is larger than most , another ex Kingspan unit bought on Ebay. -
Yes we have two sets of bi folds that face south and was worried about UV bleaching, but that would affect real wood as well, I don’t think it would affect tiles?
-
Thanks guys, yet to get samples but does the wood effect look like wood?
-
We were set to buy engineered wood flooring and tiles for our ground floor when our builder told me his brother had laid Karndean flooring of “wood” and” tiles “ in his own house and he could not tell it from the real stuff. I have always thought “ pretend” flooring would never look like the real stuff. We also have UFH and been told Karndean is better than wood for this anyway. The wear layer on Karndean is only 0.4mm but it will never need re treating ( like wood) so with care will need no maintenance. A big dilemma for us, I would like to hear your opinions on this matter please folks ?.

Not seen this thread before but I have installed mine in a warm loft, hung from the roof on rubber mounts so no noise should track down onto bedrooms. -
Great reading guys, my ASHP faces west and that elevation gets very windy and carries a lot of rain from the Atlantic so damp a lot of the time. The cover above is just what I was thinking of making so that I will definitely do. I guess it’s down to suck it and see, get it running and monitor how it works for our location and lifestyle.
-
No. Would this be comprehensive enough? , I just thought if the ASHP could switch off rather than go on to defrost itself the warmest water temp could be achieved ?.
