Hello! And, err... our appeal was dismissed :-(
joe90 replied to garrymartin's topic in Planning Permission
Too right, how bonkers is that, never mind Labour will sort it all out (puts tin hat on and runs away)…… -
Depends if the meter has an isolation switch, some do some don’t. However you could always pull the main fuse and tell Octopus you did this because their smart meter is not working properly.

D4 glue.. is this a structural glue? Be careful folks!
joe90 replied to Gus Potter's topic in Timber Frame
So, we need a “named” structural glue that is available (apart from cascamite), any takers? -
That’s odd. Whatever it is it sounds broke! Try removing it and plumbing straight through @Nickfromwales any idea mate?
-
I doubt it but they do have a reputation for very good customer service so try emailing the CEO, Greg jackson, greg@octopus.energy and how your elderly parents are not coping.

+1 with @ProDave, bloody smart meters, I would not have one. They should be called dumb meters not smart 🤷♂️

Very interesting, so does the structural glue used in glulams have a name? -
No, as long as it stops bounce it need not reach the walls.

Loft loading limits - strengthening the truss
joe90 replied to Jawbkk's topic in Lofts, Dormers & Loft Conversions
I have moved from my self build with a huge boarded loft as storage to a little cottage with no loft, had a garage sale and feel liberated 😇 -

Moving personal items into house prior to completion?
joe90 replied to Cookie's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
Oh, still ask the question (and supply documentation) but how can a private company, in your employ, fine you, they are not the post office 🤷♂️ -
Moving personal items into house prior to completion?
joe90 replied to Cookie's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
Sounds mad to me (I stored stuff on site prior to completion) BUT if your local authority has changed the rules then why not ask your BCO and perhaps ask him where you can view the councils decision. -
I am glad I am short!!! I have seen cookers placed in fireplaces (with the beam/arch raised almost to the ceiling) but I don’t like that. Frankly if the fan is powerful enough it should pull stuff away from the hob.

Plumber wants to put in 2 huge radiators to each bedroom
joe90 replied to CalvinHobbes's topic in Central Heating (Radiators)
Yes, Because most people don’t realise they are not needed (good plan). -

joe90 replied to CalvinHobbes's topic in Central Heating (Radiators)
So why I a better insulated house do you think you need radiators in the bedrooms? With my build (near passive)I had no heating in bedrooms. No extra cables fir panel heaters but sockets in position for electric heaters if required (never used). -
An MVHR runs at very little air pressure.

Horizontal hairline cracks in 45x190 joists.
joe90 replied to Jawbkk's topic in General Construction Issues
It depends if you think the joists are not strong enough Yes, do they bend when you jump,on them? It’s about peace of mind, if you’re going to worry about it then strengthen them by either gluing and screwing timber alongside them (sistering) or using plywood. -

+1, however if you want to strengthen around the cut outs then knock yourself out . -
If and when moisture backs up on the battens they will rot eventually and this will lead to tile slippage.
-
The problem is to rectify this the roof needs stripping and re placing and as so many roofs are like yours I don’t doubt it will last 20 years, do you really want to spend money now when it could last a fairly long time 🤷♂️

Ah didn’t realise you had no access to the garage, try what @ProDave says but if this fails your only option will be to apply mains power to that cable. p.s. Do you have a window you could force/break?

So the motor is 240 volt however if you connect a push button to 11 and 13 this should open/shut the door without the remote fobs, if this still does not work the fault is within the control box not fobs.
