  1. It’s amazing what a Fresh start on a new day can do for the head.... wiring was easy, i was confused about the earth but @JSHarris diagram made it easy. So I still need to shorten some wires, do a bit of tidying up, plastic caps on the roof screws.... but it’s all in and ready for council inspection on Thursday and then I am away the next day for two months so hopefully it will all work flawlessly while I’m gone...... right 150 meters of blue pipe to dig in today......
  2. KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID
  3. Just a quick question as people are talking about this, with a beam and block floor what is best Practice with regards to the gap below the slabs and down to the ground below ? Obviously insulation etc is all above the beam and block but is there are recommended gap below or can this be back filled ? Again I am just interested as a friend is building with beam and block and it’s perked my interest. (I expect it’s whatever the SE has told him to do but please humour my ignorance) thanks
  4. I was told by a friend a Local developers is putting them into new builds not so far away from me, he was interested and asked if I was aware of them, I told him they were pretty new on the market and further research was needed before I could recommend them.
  5. so depressing when this is the norm....... thank god for this forum spreading the good word on what is actually possible if one is willing to educate themselves.
  6. Thanks, I think I will be good to go tomorrow.
  7. Ok I have the thermostat you linked to @JSHarris on the other thread https://www.screwfix.com/p/drayton-rts3-24003sx-frost-thermostat/9578r but could really do with some help in how to wire it up. so I have a DIMPLEX WALL-MOUNTED TUBULAR HEATER 80W or something very similar with a uk 3 pin plug on it I have a spare socket in my water treatment cupboard that is outside but insulated and totally weather proof. I want to wire in the thermostat so that the heater comes on when the temp drops below 3 degrees (the heater does not have a thermostat) can someone draw me a simple diagram of how this is meant to work as I am having a bad day and struggling to get my head around it..... and need to get this job done ASAP as I am leaving in a week and don’t want to leave the system vulnerable to freezing. thanks ! p.s Long day, tired and confused and want to have a go tomorrow morning when I am fresh.
  8. Seems so strange that this is an item people want but it’s not readily available of the shelf. There is no way I could go down the raspberry Pi route as I am just not capable in this department.... but would be happy to pay for one that was easy to set up and use.
  9. Definitely a big improvement, it’s a shame you had to be the customer they got to “learn” from but at the end of the day it’s done. When you do your car port I think you will wonder what all the fuss was about as it’s ALL in the preparation and planning, putting the tin up and fixing it is the EASY bit. Anyway glad I could have contributed something to the forum.
  10. Good bit of research there @Russell griffiths and thanks for the update, I will let my friend know it’s a toss up between dewalt version 3 or the Hikoki, I think he is still needing quite a few tools so he is going to need to think about going with one brand to sort out the simplicity of batteries, personally I would advise him to go down the dewalt road as they have a lot of other good offerings even though I am a committed makita pilgrim. Just need to track down the no.3 version.
  11. No my mistake..... crossed wires
  12. There is one JUST like that less than 2 foot away from the bloody loo !!!! Ffs
  13. I really hate it when people put baby wipes down the loo..... ongoing problems with this ..... I have tried every approach to stop this happening from super friendly “please don’t “ to “this is driving me fecking mad please stop putting these ffffing things down the loo......’ I am always met with a flat denial of the accusation..... god help me. And just to make it even worse every time I go to empty the compost after it has decomposed I have to fish out dozens of the bloody things....... drives me bonkers.
  14. Nerves of steel! Well done !
  15. https://www.toolden.co.uk/power-tools/cordless-power-tools/cordless-nailers-and-staple-guns/hikoki-nr1890dc-jpz-18v-cordless-1st-fix-framing-nailer-with-2-x-5-0ah-batteries/ so we are talking about this one.
  16. I know it’s been talked about on other threads but I am following this up for a friend and wanted to clarify if this is the best gun for fist fix. https://www.powertoolworld.co.uk/hitachi-gas-nail-gun-nr90gc2-first-fix-90mm-nailer#review-widget I know @Russell griffiths talked highly of it but was that just by reviews ? Anyone used it ? Thanks
  17. sorry to be a bore @nod but could you give me a but more detail on the make / model as when I type in bio v I don’t get far on googol......thanks
  18. @nod what type please?
  19. Great result, look forward to some “new” pictures.
  20. I expect so as it’s the same for a septic tank, treat it well and it can be years between emptying......
  21. @Stones was it a vortex ? Can’t remember from your blog
  22. I know there are quite a few on here who have had treatment plants installed and I am looking to recommend one for a neighbour, I am really wanting to know how often people have had them emptied in real life - not what the packet tells you. I’m only interested in ones that have not provided problems. Some people come to mind @ProDave @Stones but there must be others. Would be good to get a top 3 so that I can pass the info on. Thanks
  23. https://www.arct.cam.ac.uk/Downloads/ichs/vol-3-3097-3116-thompson.pdf sorry mate but that’s not quite right...... some light reading for you. anyway I am holding fast on my personal view that tin has been widely used for a long time in the Scottish landscape and would be far more in keeping than box profile.......
  24. Your on your own mate, I really don’t think it’s an issue but we all have our PERSONAL preference and I respect that, flash band away if that’s your thing .......
  25. Well if you ever want to come and have a look pm me, however I am just about to head up to your neck of the woods for two months work in Aviemore at the end of this month. Box profile is great but personally I like the traditional use of tin in Scotland and feel it looks more in keeping with the local vernacular.
