  1. Handy tip, thanks ? *off to dig up the patio now!
  2. I’ve just realised... PIR ??‍♂️
  3. Me too
  4. Cheers... that’s what this forum is all about is it? fine.... you are all out to get me and I’m off. Goodbye. ?
  5. What’s wrong with this video? It’s in slow mo and flipped like watching it in a mirror ?
  6. Why would they do this? *sits down to learn something I wish I knew 3 years ago.
  7. I went for the cheapest I could find on eBay...installed it all myself (I’m not in the trade at all, I’m an office dweller by day). It worked out fine. My whole heating and hot water system was less than a couple of grand.
  8. I’m not sure anyone would recommend a way of doing this as you could end up with some very high temps on a sunny day without even knowing it. Unless you used it to heat the thermal store, then top up the temp if required by electric?
  9. Weird set up that the Rayburn can contaminate the UFH system. I would have assumed they were separated, by the Rayburn heating the store via a coil?
  10. I treated them as 2 different extensions. I just had a doorway to the side extension which had a utility off the kitchen (back half of side extension) and a loo off the hallway. Regarding the rear extension I had two larger openings with a short support wall in the middle. Which took the steels for the rear wall and the removed wall between existing kitchen and dining room. (Old kitchen space became the circulation area, old dining room area became kitchen area and extension became dining and sitting area. As for not doing the exterior wall insulation... I just didn’t understand anything about insulation generally to even think that it needed doing.
  11. Great job. Plus great advice from nick ?
  12. Hi and welcome! You are at the beginning of an exciting and demanding journey. Enjoy every step of it! Fwiw I did an extension and renovation of a 1940s place a few years ago. Side extension and rear. But didn’t have them full open to each other like your proposal, as supporting the corner of the house was a big and expensive job. I think we reduced our cost down by about 30% but not doing that. The biggest regret at the time was not improving the insulation to the existing building (it was double brick and no cavity)... if I were to do it again I would certainly go for external wall insulation.
  13. Could they be used to heat a thermal store, then take the heat for the UFH from there? Much as @joe90 has for his UFH (but heated by ASHP)
  14. Figures crossed you get a heating engineer who can actually do diagnostics and not just start replacing parts.
  15. Is it a ravenheat? Looked like it from the condensate trap in your other post. If so, error code 1 was low pressure causing lockout. Well it was in my old ravenheat boiler.
  16. How bloody frustrating. Have you tried the old IT fix of switching it off and back on again? fault code 1 is low pressure isn’t it?
  17. Is that thinking outside the box ?
  18. I think pretty much everyone has the thoughts of ‘just buying a completed house instead’... In reality you will do that a few more times yet. But when you are in the house, you’ll forget how bad it was and be really proud of what you have created.
  19. I assume it needs water to make sure nasty gasses don’t escape. .. No idea how ‘full’ it’s supposed to be tho. Have you checked that the pipe is free flowing? I.e. the condensate can go somewhere.
  20. Don’t be pressured... they need you more than the other way round, even more so I would think in the current climate.
  21. They all have sales all the time. Even if Howdens don’t currently have a sale, they will price match others.... they pretty much all do.
  22. It’s worth getting a few quotes and then use them against each other. I kept going back and forward between showrooms with lower quotes until I could get no more discount or things added in. The best deal I could get was from wren. The time saving of ready built units is a godsend too!
