I think that you can prevent subsidence But ground and trees may make Heave enivitable Weve put clay board around all foundation to prevent the likely heave
-
If you are on a strip foundation The easiest and cheapest way to protect the house foundation from heave when the ground ssriinks is to add a layer of low density polystyrene (clay board ) prior to pouring the concrete I’m surrounded by hedges and trees and have done this even around the garages

Rocco shop and catalogue prices are like most rediculous There trade prices arnt bad But open to a deal on everything Most flexible adhesives are fine with porcelain Don’t get involved with fancy adhesives When I use something out of the ordinary It’s useally an Architect that has read an article Thought it sounded cool and put it on the spec The main thing with a concrete floor is priming Kill any suction If you can manage without using rapid set You are better with a gradual set and give it at least 24 hours before grouting
-
No it’s not Bal Ive used dozens of pallets of the stuff Just the same no problems Even Tile mart (Rocia) Will do flexible for £10.50 per bag On account I Don’t know how Topps get away with it The one in Preston Still prices there tiles Each
-
Just on my way home from the plot I past Tops Tiles Quik set Flexible adhesive (Grey) £26.99 What a rip off Someone must be buying the stuff I normally pay £8.50 for the same product
-
It is very rare for any one BM to have the best prices on all or most items I have three accounts and one at Preston Plastics Which carry’s stock for most underground and above ground plastic piping Very exspensive walk in prices 40% off for account Makes them about 15% cheaper than the BM well worth flitting between several

Fabulous location Get all the red tape out of the way and the best bit will follow

Following on from an earlier thread Just had this back from a tile supplier showing the mark up on some tiles I did state that my wife had spotted these and I’d not had any dealings with this company I stand corrected I’d had a couple of orders from them about ten years back These are a top of the range Italian 1200 long plank with a non slip surface So quite rxspensive Quote based on 150 metres
-
Spot on there An EDM is not for DIY Use
-
Quik answer is don’t do it TP are one of the most exspensive merchants There must be a better builders merchants near you
-
When first started tiling there was no flexible adhesives We would screed in the morning and go on the screed in the afternoon with board and tile straight onto the screed Set like iron The first time I used decoupling matting was about eight years ago Now most jobs I price spec it as standard
-
I stoped short at saying Chinese and Turkish tiles are Crap But they are not fired for as long and quite brittle Very prone to chipping Which wouldn’t be an issue in bathrooms But I wouldn’t put them on a downstairs floor By far the best are Italian Spanish Portuguese In that order Nearly always Italian or Spanish on The commercial jobs I do I wouldn’t put tiles onto a heated screed without matting But three years back we were converting a barn for the M.D. of a large company that we do a lot of for He needed to be in by Christmas Couldnt get his bio boiler commissioned Said go ahead and tile the 153 mtr floor No time to bother with decoupling matting Three years on it looks just like the day it was done He’s time poor and cash rich and can easily afford to have the lot roped up and done again So there’s no telling If I took a chance and didn’t mat mine Which would save me about a thousand I guarantee mine would crack or lift
-
Tile prices have gone through the roof Dave Some of the Turkish and Chinese are reasonable But I wouldn’t use them with UFH
-
I’d hold back on buying the tiles My wife has chosen Italian plank tiles at 61 per mtr From a supplier that I’ve not dealt with He said that he will discount by 15% For a 150 mtrs I nearly choked on my tea when she told me I would exspect to get them for 30 per mtr and save £5 per metre on adhesive and the same on matting so so at these rates your tiling labour would be free
-
I charge £22 per mtr for floors 30 mtrs and over £4 for laying decoupling mat Groute and adhesive at cost Flexible adhesive £8.50 20kg Decoupling mat £6 per mtr suply for small areas bathrooms etc I normally allow £200 per day All plus vat Unless zero rated Most happy custermers will be happy to help there tiler out and show off the lovely new bathroom off so make sure that you have a look at a previous job There are some really poor tilers out there And not always cheaper
-
Regarding the tiles If you have an exspansion gap to all other edges there is no problem tiling up tight to Patios Same goes for the timber As JS has already stated Beither will move that much
-
The shower trays seem much of muchness With some giving a free waste I got a free waste with all three of mine and replaced the with mc alpine wastes I’m not a plumber but I could see that the free ones looked flimsy

As Peter has already stated It very difficult to give an opinion without seeing a drawing Perhaps the outer edges of the ceilings slope down to 2100 -
Yeah I agree with you Russel Brilliant stuff I did mine last year It does help if you have a bit of exsperiance with it Unlike me I’m still trying to get the resin off my hands Glad I masked the render up though

Foundation Cost and requirements - is BC being too picky

I’m not sure what labour rates are were you are But the two depths you have mentioned would be dug and concreted the same day So it’s just working out your outlay for concrete -
Cost of creating 20 meters of site access driveway.

Own digger So handy Forks would be a god send I wish I would of had my own digger The first figure with half days would be doable if you already have contractors and plant onsite The arcing much higher figure Is more likely if you had to get someone in as a one off But what no ones touched on is Aby graded access would be nackered by the end of the job and would need redoing Quik scrape and hardcore down Lorrys a plant will roller it for free -
If I ever get ours finished I’d hoped January and Feb were going to be quiet months Hopefully I can get a uninterrupted week in a few weeks Sort of torn between earning the money and getting on with thing Thankfully we have this site to have a good moan with like minded friends
-
No if you just let the line just catch the edge you will be accurate Some of the MF ceilings I set out can be 20 meters plus I use exactly the same princeible The line on my green Hilti is about 5 mil once the distance is greater than 10 metres

Ideally you would have a bracket with your laser But matching it to the SAME datum each time will work fine Use a sharp pencil to mak your datum have your laser line nipping the bottom of any tile line or batten You will find it much easier to work from a batton It May help you to put a pencil line along the top of your baton the width of your tile plus adhesive So you can keep everything straight Setting out from a focal point is a good idea
