  1. Just trowel it on about three times the thickness of finish We normally mix three bags at a time in a tub and use it within ten minutes Keep It goes on really quick
  2. As a tiling contractor I would be doing cartwheels if I could get some of the rates quoted on here I can’t remember what size your floor was Sorry But probably quite a bit smaller than I’m used to There there would be some premium to be added For terrazzo laboure only We would be at £33-38m2 and would pay a tiler £22 m2 These are on good sized areas Ive also laid a fair amount of wood flooring and it would be marginally quicker than tiles Site guys will nearly always be quicker and neater than the private guys
  3. Our local planning are charging £60 for pre application advise Answer within 28 days
  4. Just had a quote from Ratinal Ali clad £58000 Supply only Ouch
  5. SE £650 Foundation design upper floor roof steels pretty cheap on the grand scheme of things Tee and ground calcs
  6. They will ask for SE. Drawing Same with both floors
  7. A site I’m working on at the moment The lady wants lights around the skirtings and on all the door handles I suppose when you are paying 1.3 x2 plus a new build cottage You can have what you want I worked on Phil Neville’s old house Which was like a tribute to bling Gary Neville had a sprawling wide staircase with a carved busk of his head on the newel and his wife’s on the other newel The guy who carved them placed his on the newel and went to get him and the joiner accidentally knocked it onto the floor Breaking the nose off
  8. I wouldn’t use spray plastering on a house To much masking up and you can’t split the angles for a better job It’s ok for very large commercial areas I normally allow three days for a pair of plasterers to skim out a decent sized 4-5 bed home Not a lot of time to be saved on a house
  9. Use single 15 mil soundblock If your above a ceiling Use a single strip of 15 mil sound block under the sole plate or floor track You will get better acoustic performance from metal C stud than timber
  10. A SE foundation design is pretty crucial This won’t be as long winded as the Architects design process He will design the foundations steels and check if your Architects design is workable This will enable you to get BB quotes If your going that route Also floor joists and roof quotes will want this If your not doing the foundation brickwork This will also allow you to get bricklaying quotes and quantify trench blocks etc
  11. At the end of the day It’s individuals choice It’s pretty obvious that the professionals can’t agree on this I can’t complain Ripping the stuff out over the years has kept me in work
  12. There’s nothing on any of the ceilings The air test needs to come in under 3 We are doing a bunch of houses and apartments in the lake district We shot fire the plastic to to the steel ridge beam Then return it down the slopes and down to the floor Shot firing and acoustic sealing to the perimeter walls Obviously two chains of thought
  13. Read my answer Dave Im not missing the point I’m just stating a fact The vast majority of new builds don’t use plastic on the slopes There is a reason and it isn’t cost
  14. Yrs brown patches and mildew on ceilings Pictured is one of six 3.6 million pound houses I’m doing at the moment 70 mil insulation between joists 100 mil insulated plasterboard No polethene As I’ve said Very few want it
  15. The Parge is just a 5 mil thick coat and then has dot and dab over it Normall two men will Parge a 4 bed house in a couple of hours If your bonding and skimming No need for parge
  16. 7-9 seems about right You shouldn’t need to book more than a couple of weeks in advance I certainly wouldn’t advise paying a deposit
  17. I was surprised at how thin the Structual ply is that they are using But it is housing association Three Clark’s of works High spec I worked on TF for around 40 years I’ get the speed and convenience I also get the superior heat retention But I wouldn’t have one Nothing is straight or square Every site manager I speak to loves them But asked would you build one for yourself They answer no
  18. There’s never an issue Back in the 80s every slope had polythene In the 90s much of this was stripped out I’d say about a quarter of jobs that we do Mainly housing associations do I’m starting 4 houses today with lots of slopes All well over a million pounds each No VP specked The Jury is out I wouldn’t put one in my own As above Airtightness can easily be achieved with plaster and paint You would need a lot of air pressure to force through a Thermal boarded and skimmed ceiling
  19. I do this as part of my job Some have a VB most don’t I won’t be installing a VB on our vaulted ceilings
  20. A joinery shop will beat the big players on price and probably quality also What area are you in

    Bumpy plaster

We where ask to put eight poorly skinned apartments right I did advise replastering But they decided we should fill and sand to save money We finished up re skimming after it had been painted AGAIN This was just bumpy 3-5 mil finish Very difficult to get it looking right with filler
